| | 1:00pm Jeremiah 40-52 I'm turning into a weather wimp. I drove all the way to Puyallup just to run inside at the Y again. That's twice this week. This should be it for me now until the Turkey Trot on Sunday. That's where I ran my first sub-20 5k(19:42) in 2009 and where I broke my PR streak last year with a 19:48. I hope to redeem myself this time around with an 18:59.

2:00pm
Perfect day for a race! 33°, sunshine, no wind, and lots of friends. John ran it with 2 of his nephews(one of them took first place overall with 15:07), Paul and Melody ran it with their 2 kids again and Preston ran it with his 8 year-old daughter Ruby(her first 5k). I think Kym and I were the only family not to bring home a turkey this year, but I did break 19! After the race we all went to Black Bear for coffee and frozen yogurt. What a fun day!
The first mile felt both fast and easy; that's new! I was afraid to look at my watch for a while and finally checked it at about 3/4 and saw 5:55! That was encouraging news! I tried to just keep a steady effort after that. The second mile has a good sized hill right in the middle that slowed me down a lot. I gave it everything I had going up and got so winded that I couldn't really speed up going down the other side. The third mile felt very long... still recovering from the hill, I didn't notice the marker or hear my watch beep at 3. When I turned the corner to leave the path around the lake I thought the finish was still pretty far away, but it was a lot closer than I usually get before the final kick. It was the same course as last year so I should have known better. I cranked it up as fast as I could and was still there before I hit puke-pace. I think this is a lot tougher course than the Resolution Run 5k so I'll be shooting for a big PR to start my year.

| | 4:30am Awesome: I registered for the Boston to Big Sur Challenge yesterday!
Not Awesome: My MP3 player is missing and there is sideways rain. Also sideways trees and traffic lights. It was the worst wind and rain I have ever ran through. http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/steilacoom-wa/98388/watches-warnings/341366

| | 9:00am Lamentations 1 - Ezekiel 9 My gloves and shoes were still soaked from yesterday. That made the first couple miles really cold and I was happy that I decided to do a shorter run today. Once I got the top of Farwest hill I was warmed up and felt pretty good. I even thought about a doing a second lap to make it the usual 10 miler, but decided to save something for tomorrow's 20 mile "Bring On The Stuffing Run".

6:00am I never thought I would see this happen; Preston ran out of steam today around 16. Usually I am sucking wind just trying to keep up with him at any distance. I picked the pace back up a little after we split up at 18 and added a lap around the lake since I had those nice recovery miles :) The weather was good and the company was great! We saw a few other runners out there, but not as many as last year. I think I earned my turkey and stuffing today. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
