No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Screwshoes
Poor man's cleats. this works a LOT better than you would think! Very quick and easy.
LittleHotties
Are you cheap like me? Put those little hotties in a ziplock bag and use them again tomorrow!
Kickstart your dead Garmin
Hold down the reset/lap button and the mode button together to get your 205/305/310xt to restart if it won't turn on or if it freezes up.
Brrrrrr, it was cold this morning! 42° and it felt much colder running through the blanket of fog covering the park. Is it really time for gloves already?
Thursday night Pub Run with the Tacoma Runners at Rock The Dock pub and grill. 2.7 miles- down Dock street, around the glass museum, across the bridge of glass, up the stairs at UW, down Jefferson street and back across Schuster Parkway to Dock street for a cold one. What a great way to end the day!
Nice easy run after a few days off. I got an email from BAA yesterday reminding me to register next week. I wonder if that extra 10 minutes was enough to make the cut this year? If not, I guess I won't have to figure out how to pay for another trip to Boston. Last year was a killer and I didn't even have to pay for a hotel room.
Another easy run after 3 days off. There appears to be a trend developing here. I ran into Preston and chatted for a few minutes during the last split.
I ran into Preston again this morning and talked about Boston for a few minutes. I think I convinced him that he should go again next year. I just submitted my registration. Confirmation #2007313
5:00am - I ran with Preston so, no MP3 Bible today.
I stopped for a drink at Preston's house after 12 miles and then took the long way home with a little side trip up Farwest hill. The 3 miles between our houses turned into about 7 by the time I got home.
Dear Michael W. Davis, This is to notify you that your
entry into the 116th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 16, 2012
has been accepted, provided that the information you submitted
is accurate. A Confirmation of Acceptance card will be mailed to you via
US Postal Service mail in October.
It looks like Preston and I are the only entrants from Steilacoom and Lakewood so far.
It's like flag football. Finish the race without the zombies taking your flags and you are eligible for awards. If not, you finish as one of the undead. Lots of obstacles and multiple routes, one wrong turn could change your 5k into a 10k.
My Garmin is dead again. I keep forgetting to take it off in the shower and the battery shorts out. Last time it totally killed the battery, this time I dried it out with a hair dryer and it seems to be ok. It's supposed to rain all next week so I need to figure out a way to weather proof it a little better. I'm going to try covering the contacts with some silicone this time and tape it up a little tighter. I'm still waiting for my new battery that will fit inside the watch. It's been 10 days since they confirmed my order. I think it's on a slow boat coming all the way from China, or maybe they strapped it to a pigeon's leg, or maybe they just kept my $4 and figured I'd forget all about it in 20 days. The 10-20 day shipping was free, 7-10 was $17 and 3-5 was $28. Guess which one I chose for my $4 battery?
I used Sportypal on my phone for today's run. It felt like I was running a lot faster than it reports...
Time: 00:42:28
Distance: 6.34 mi
Avg. Speed 8.95mph
Avg. Pace 6.7 min/mi (6:42)
Calories 785
Hopefully I can patch up my Garmin again today. I have a long run planned with Preston tomorrow.
Just a quick run in the sideways rain to check the distance from Black Bear around the lake in Steilacoom Park and Back. I'm going to try starting a running group on Monday nights. 3 miles through the park followed by fro-yo and espresso at BB.
Distance Split pace 0.79 7:34 - My house to BB Distance Split pace 1.00 7:16 2.00 7:21 2.97 7:22 Distance Split pace 0.80 7:04 - Back home.
My watch went berzerk flashing and beeping like crazy during mile 8. I thought for sure it was broken again since I just installed a new battery. It turned out that the lap database was just full again and I had to clear some of the history. It looks like I lost a couple tenths of a mile because of it. Tragic huh?

Not motivated at all this morning. I decided to skip Steilacoom hill since it is staying so dark lately, well that's how I justified cutting the run short anyway. Once I woke up a little after the second mile I felt pretty good and picked up the pace.
Thursday night Pub Run. We met at a skeezy little tavern in a very sketchy neighborhood in downtown Tacoma. Fortunately we ran toward the nicer houses and around the park. I kept on pace with the leader so I didn't get lost. As far as I know nobody got mugged or kidnapped. I shouldn't complain because I really do enjoy some of the people I meet at these gatherings. Tonight I talked with a couple who I'm pretty sure liked running even more than beer :)
I entered a haiku poetry contest today. Got to be the gayest thing I've ever done.
