Well, I didn't break 19 like I hoped, but it was another PR!  I've finished 13 races since joining FRB and PR'd every time except the Bloomsday 12k where I just paced my daughter and took pictures. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of connection there.

Today's race was a small one in Dupont, a little town just south of Steilacoom. I think there were only about 5 or 6 competitive runners out of a field of maybe 100 or so. I think the first place guy came in at 18:55. Miles two and three of the course were a lot of dirt and blacktop trails with some rolling hills, tight corners and a few large mud holes to navigate. I wasn't able to give 100% through most of that for fear of wiping out and landing in the bushes. I started out in 3rd place and hung on to the two guys out front until we got to the first mud hole. From there they just kept slipping farther and farther away from me. At one point the fourth place guy was right on my shoulder. I tried to keep right for a while so he could get around me and he wouldn't make a move. Eventually he faded back and ended up finishing close to a minute behind me.  I tried my best to make up for lost time at the end when we got back on the road and there just wasn't enough road left. Had I been familiar with the course I might have gone out faster, but that's a lot easier to say after the race :)

I thought it was cool that they gave division winners medals instead of ribbons, but kind of strange that there was nothing at all for the overall winners. There was also a raffle at the end with some nice prizes. I'll probably do this one again next year.

I don't know why, but I keep getting these "one hit wonders" stuck in my head while I'm running:

So consistent! (your splits) And a very nice kick. Congratulations, and I hope you got some nice hardware.

The video made me chuckle. Nice leopard suit.

Wiping out and landing in the bushes would have made for a much more interesting report. But third place overall is pretty exciting too.

You know, the first and last letters of your name are R and P. Put them together and switch them around, PR. Another mystical connection.

Nice job on the pr and your running looks great!

I like when he rolls his tongue. It was quite the tongue lashing. And what a dramatic entrance just to sing a song about life being a fantasy. They were certainly on a mission.

Speaking of your new blog title, did you know Nan's real life sister played Trisha in that movie?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, May 22, 2010 at 16:32:08 from 72.102.164.65

Sno - Thanks. They didn't do anything for the overall winners, but I got a pretty sweet medal for my division win. I'll post a pic later.

Burt - Nothing gets by you! My running record is a real Magical Mystery Tour. I'll try to spice things up a bit more next time with a good wipeout. "If I fell", oh my, another Beatles tune :)

Rockness - I hope I can continue this trend. I'm going to try to run one race a month to keep sharp until Boston.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sat, May 22, 2010 at 16:48:21 from 72.102.164.65

Burt - I think I commented on that Trisha thread. something like "I could totally draw her" :)

I wonder if 20 years from now I will look back and think I look as stupid in my flame shirt as Aldo does in his leopard suit?

Another PR. Way to go.

Twinkies - Thanks. I still can't figure out why you love trail races. Just a little bit of mud had me all freaked out.

Sno - I added a pic of the medal to my post.
