| | 4:30pm I couldn't find my shoes this morning so I had to run after work. I expected to be more tired and even a little slow, but I kept in the low 7's without a whole lot of effort. I even had a couple in the 6's. I'm not sure where all this energy came from, but I like it. I'm doing another easy 10 in the morning, hopefully easy will be something like 7:30's. | | 5:30am I did the first 10 easy with Preston on a pretty flat
route around Oakbrook, then we split up and I put in a good hard effort on another
hilly 10 to make 20. I felt great through the whole run and even thought
about going longer, but changed my mind when I saw what my overall pace
was. Why push it? I'm feeling really good about holding a 7:38 or
faster pace in Eugene. I also broke in a new pair of Asics 2140's
today. I walked a couple miles in them yesterday at work and hit road
with them this morning. No blisters!

It was a great morning for a run (low 50's, clear sky, slight breeze), but I just wasn't "into" it. I didn't eat anything yesterday and didn't sleep well last night either. What did I expect anyway? I am slowly becoming aware of how much fuel affects my performance and attitude toward running. 5:00am brrrrrrr! I don't know what the temp was, but most of my fingers went numb about 5 miles in. Other than that it was a pretty good run. I felt a lot better than I did on Monday. I think I'll double up today so I can rest tomorrow before my last long run on Friday. Next week I'm planning to do another double in place of my long run. I'm not sure how that will actually work out since getting in any miles at all will be a challenge while I'm on the road.

| | 5:00am I guess I just don't know easy. I tried starting out slow and the first mile was 7:28. I ended up down in the teens by the end of the run. I sure hope I have this problem on race day. For what it's worth, it was slower than last week's 20 miler. Does that count as taking it easy? Only 2 weeks til race day! It's all down hill from here.

Awesome run! Everything was right today! Days like this are why I run. I worked a little harder than usual on the uphills to keep an even pace, but the rest was eeeeasy and felt so good :)

3:30pm Another perfect day for a run! Shorts and t-shirt only, no sweats, no gloves, no hand warmers! I did some hills on the first 5 miles and then 5 flat ones around Oakbrook. Two weird things happened on this run. First, I inhaled/swallowed a huge bug around mile 6 with lots of choking and gagging etc. I was a little afraid one of the neighborhood residents was going to call an ambulance or try to heimlich maneuver me so I kept on moving as best I could. Then around mile 8 my ears got really hot and were kind of throbbing. (No Burt, I didn't shave my head like Pedro when I got home) I've never felt anything like that before from running or anything else for that matter. It was very weird. I wonder if it was some kind of reaction to the bug I swallowed? Anyway, it was a faster than usual run and I felt strong all the way through with no aches or pains except my hot, throbbing ears. My next 10 miler should be in Winnemucca, NV tomorrow night. Oh, Congratulations to all the FRBers in Boston today. The text alerts didn't work for me, I only got one alert for Rockness' final time about an hour after he finished and none for anyone else. I was able to track 5 of my favorites on the Boston website though. It was very cool to see Scott and Kelli's splits popping up at the same at each checkpoint. My friend Preston also PR'd and re-qualified. I wish I could have been there too. Maybe next year...

| | 6:00am Fort Mohave, AZ Run to the hills, run for your lives... I had this song stuck in my head this morning for my entire run. I ran 5 miles out Boundary Cone Road at about a 1-2% incline so the return trip was a breeze. Later on I found out the "Iron Maidens" were doing a free concert at the Avi Casino so we checked it out and they sucked :( They didn't even play Run To The Hills before we decided to leave. Tomorrow is Cheap Trick at the Aquarious casino. That should be much better. Pace 7:05 |

I planned a double for yesterday in place of my long run and didn't make it out before dark. I stepped in a pothole in McDermitt and decided no more running in the dark for me so no double this week. It was a little more windy and dusty here than yesterday, but not too bad. The second half was super easy compared to the uphill on the way out. Only 3 more runs before race day and maybe one of those at high elevation on the way home.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that two bicyclists actually said hello to me today. That is unheard of in Washington. Bicyclists are such snobs at home.

| | 9:30pm Winnemucca, NV 2 miles to the walmart, 15 laps around the building and back. Not exactly scenic or peaceful, but there was plenty of light so I didn't have to worry about stumbling on a pile of road kill or anything. Pace 7:26 |

5:00am This wasn't the confidence builder I was hoping for. I ran my normal 10 mile route at home and my pace was ok, but mentally it felt like a 20 miler. I'm still pretty run down from the last day of my motorcycle trip, we rode through high winds and rain for about 700 miles and it took a lot out of me. Hopefully I'll be back to normal after a couple days rest. Distance Split pace 1.00 7:12 2.00 7:24 3.00 7:28 4.00 7:05 5.00 7:09 6.00 7:17 7.00 7:17 8.00 7:21 9.00 7:10 10.00 7:15
