No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Happy New Year! I haven't missed a New Years morning race since I started running in May 2003 and I can't wait to drag my tired butt to the start line again to begin 2012 right. I'm praying for everyone here to have a fast, fun, and injury free year. Carpe Viam
Perfect conditions for a race this morning! 38°, clear skies and 1mph wind. I had a good race considering I ignored my garmin and just ran at a pace that "felt" fast enough to PR. I was a little disappointed when I saw 19 on the clock as I approached the finish line. I could have fixed that by training harder or racing harder, or maybe just paying attention to my stupid watch. Garmin time was 19:34 and even though my time wasn't listed on the results, they had me at 15th overall, 2nd in my AG and 1st in my AG for the series since Scott took first today in our AG and he's not doing the whole series.
Finished the Bible for the 3rd time since 1/1/11 and listened to some music for the last few miles for the first time in over a year. I'll probably go back to Genesis on my next run.
I didn't plan on running today, but we were at the Y so Kym could run on the track and I had to do something :) I am so glad I did my long run yesterday, it was beautiful out and today there was sideways rain and snow. I may have to bust out the screw shoes tomorrow morning.
The snow was deep enough today that I couldn't avoid  kicking it with each step. Post-holing in the 7's, I can think of funner things, but not many :)
The Resolution Run 10k was cancelled today due to inclement weather. I skipped my long run to rest up for this race and the forecast called for 30mph wind and rain today so I went to the Y and did 120 laps on their square track(6 per mile). I saw a lot of runners and walkers come and go. Some of them gave me that look, like didn't I see you running an hour ago? It was actually a fun workout and a new record for me on the track.
3 miles on the dreadmill at the hotel in Forest Grove, OR. I'm here for a relaxng weekend of running, hot-tubbing and movie watching while Kym judges a debate tounament.
So much for my relaxing weekend. This morning we got a call that my son left his grandparents house where he was staying in the middle of the night and went home to our house. He locked all the doors so nobody could get in and would not come out or answer the phone this morning until the cops came to make sure he was OK. Everything turned out OK and he eventually went to school, but there is still some mystery about what he was doing. ugh! teenagers...
Apparently, all that got my adrenaline going pretty good. Once everything settled down, I knocked out my fastest 20 miler ever on an outdoor track near the hotel.
I've been sick since Saturday night and I'm still not feeling well. It was tempting to just stay in bed today. I think the hills in my neighborhood also got bigger while I was away for the weekend.
