Hot and humid this morning, and it was pretty nasty in the sun. The conditions were far hotter than I'm used to, and it was my first race of the year, so decided to run hard but not go to redline. I did a pretty good job of letting how I felt dictate pace, so it's not a surprise that the mostly downhill/shade first mile was 6:40 and the mostly uphill/sunny third mile was 7:20. The disappointment was the up-and-down second mile, during which I felt strong but only came in at 7:11. So I didn't quite break 7:00s, my original goal, but that's OK, and I passed 5 people in the last mile to crack the top 10 and finish as the first old guy.
