7 miles easy. 20 minutes elliptical. Happy New year! I started a new blogger blog to document my training, feelings and such as I train for Boston. Should be fun. http://lilysroadtoboston.blogspot.com/ Add me to your blog roll :)

8 miles total 2 mile warm up. Paces: 8:10 8:07 8:00 7:56 5 mile tempo at 6:48 1 mile cool down 7:46 8 miles under 60 minutes. not shabby for the screw around first 2 warm up miles :) 25 min elliptical hell
| |

Since yesterdays tempo was maybe a little harsh, gotta follow the rule of for every hard day, have an easy day. So today I kept it easy, 68 minutes of elliptical hell. Easy/medium effort. Ran 4 easy miles outside at an 8:27 pace, wore tracks on. Freezing. Holy shizzle. If you need a little laugh, read todays workout post here
| |
| | I was out late last night, at the movies. Les Mis was good, but the 1 pm bedtime was not. I couldnt wake to save my life :(. And when your a Mom, it makes it that much harder to find time to run. No more late night dates for a few months. I need sleep. So no running for me today. | |
| |
10 outside by myself. It was -4 when I left.
| |
| |
strength trained for 25 minutes. 4 miles in 28 minutes. Then felt like it was time for more speed. 8x200 5:53 pace. Im not feeling as strong and peppy as I was maybe a month ago. Not sure why. 25 minutes elliptical hell. date at the jazz game tonight
| |
| |
I was out way late last night. I knew I wouldn't be waking early to run. Got out just before 10 am. Ran the river trail twice plus some extension. Avg pace 7:38 Came home changed into less sweaty workout clothes. 35 minutes elliptical at the gym. Glad I didn't try to force an early morning workout. I was way to tired. I have a deep longing inside me lately to run a half. What to do, what to do...
| |
| | I wanted to take it a little easy today. My legs felt kind of heavy last night and this morning. 1 hr 20 minutes elliptical 4 miles on the dreadmill easy-ish pace | |
| |
2 mile warm up 8 min pace. 4 mile tempo that felt so hard 6:53 6:53 6:35 6:35 1 mile cool down 7:41 I wanted to try and hold my tempo for 5 miles and hold the 5th mile at a 6:30, but I started fizzling in the willpower department. That will come a little more easy with time and increased mileage, which usually increases my mental toughness. I'm not to worried. I know these runs, as much as they are tough, they help me! 23 min elliptical hell. Yesterday I ate a ton of charms valentines suckers. I bit one and it knocked out a filling on my bottom left molar. Off to the Dentist I go this morning to have it fixed. Scary!
| |
| | slept in. Ran 5.15 on the tm on this snowy day. I strength trained a little before I ran. This winter is very different than last year eh? I don't mind I guess. We need water anyway. I don't want to see another raging fire summer again either. Talked to Brandon D a little. He almost has me talked into registering for SG half....' I have today to do it. Should I? | |
| |
13.5 on the tready. 8 miles in 60 minutes. Then 5.5 miles in 38 minutes. Not to shabby. I have to say. I started mentally quitting around mile 10. Thinking in my head, I'll just try to get to 12 and call it a day. Then, I smacked my mind around. I am not a quitter. I am stronger than that. So I not only made it to the planned 13. But 13.5 with more energy to have gone farther. But both of my oldest sons have basketball games this morning. I had to stop. This run boosted my confidence a bit. I'll take it
| |
| | 49 minutes elliptical. Ran 5 miles easy. Rachelle and I chatted about how bad we hate this winter. This winter blows! | |
| |
I'm getting better at this wahooo! 2 mile warm up 5 mile progression tempo. Splits: 6:53 6:48 6:44 6:39 6:35 I DID IT! I held the 5th mile. And oh my, I wanted to die! But I did it! I know I'll get better at these.
| |
| | 4 miles easy recovery pace 30 minutes elliptical hell easy effort too | |
| | 4 mile easy pace. Then 3 miles of 200's. Alternated between a 5:57 and a 6:10 pace. 15 minutes of elliptical hell. Probably should have just skipped that and come home. | |
| | 1 hr 25 minutes elliptical. Boring, boring, mega boring. Just recovering tight hamstrings. | |
| | 8 miles in 57:58. My 8 mile timed is slowly dropping. I'm okay with the slowly part. Progress is progress. | |
| |
2 mile warm up. Paces 8:06, 8:00 7:56 7:50 had planned for 4 tempo miles, held it for 3 miles Splits were 6:39 6:35 6:30... stomach started hurting, and really thought I would puke. Decided I better to slow down and finished the last mile at a 7:25. 25 minutes elliptical. Tomorrow I will run easy. Thursday I will get outside and do some speed on off's. Suggestions of what I should for that anyone? Then next Tuesdays goal is to hold my tempo miles at nothing higher than a 6:39 for 4-5 miles.
| |
| |
Strength trained 25 minutes. 9.5 miles on the treadmill. Just an easy recovery pace watching Dr Oz. I think it's time to tack on a couple more miles each day to build up my base. I need a bigger base! My older sister is a Pulmonologist, I called and asked her if it's okay to be running outside during this inversion. Her reply was never even in your dreams. It's doing more harm than good. I am not trying to sway anyone on the blog at all. I am just saying I won't be running in it until it clears up some....which should be tomorrow morning. I am so out there you guys, and stoked!
| |
| | 8 miles outside. Left at 5 am. Did 15x1 min on/offs. It was 23 degrees when I left. 23 degrees never felt so warm :) I had to shed my second pair of gloves. I definitely need to do more running outside. I could tell. I have no idea my paces. It was too dark and my headlamp batteries were dying 2 minute into the run. I ran without any light. I felt empowered being out there though. Went to the gym afterwards and did 32 min of elliptical hell. My fav~ | |
| |
I was on a hot date last night. So out kind of late and went to bed kind of late (10:45 is late to me). So I was slow to get up this morning and feeling a tad sluggish running today. I felt like I needed to get my strength training in so I lifted for about 25 minutes. Then 21 minutes elliptical. Was going to run outside but I checked the roads and they were all iced over. Ran 6.25 miles on the dready. avg pace 7:25. It's Friday!
| |
| | 12 Miles at a 6:50 pace throughout. Lately I get sick after long runs and the harder tempos. This never used to happen. Its weird to me. | |
| | 8 miles. Didn't feel like doing an easy pace, but didn't feel like running to fast either. Avg pace 7:20 35 min elliptical hell. I had an emotional weekend. Merri moved from my Street to Saratoga Springs. Bye bye good friend and training partner. You will be missed. (I cried tons yesterday) | |
| |
Woke up at 4:45 looked outside. The roads were clear, no sign of snow yet. Dressed and got all my warm clothes on, headlamp, garmin etc. Got outside and the snow had just started falling. Ran a 7:20 mile to warm up, then a 7:02, and SLAM! I hit black ice and slammed my knee and pinky. Got up and turned around and went another way. By that time snow was accumulating my road, and by the minute I was ice skating more and more. I got over it. 3 miles outside. Went home changed into shorts, tank. Got some warm stuff on and went to the gym. Had no time to mess around and felt determined as ever. 5 mile tempo straight through. 6:39 6:39 6:35 6:30 6:25. I DID IT!!!! I held a 5 mile. Woooohoooooooooo! Have to think of a new tempo goal for next week. 25 minutes elliptical hell Strength trained with the meat heads. Some dudes and their sounds! yuck! Why the sound effects?
| |
| |
9.5 easy pace miles. My legs were sore and heavyish feeling this morning. The tempo yesterday did that I am sure. Soaked for 5 minutes in an ice bath. SO COLD! My whole body hurt this morning from the tempo and weight training yesterday. Also from the black ice fall yesterday. I have a big bruise on my knee. speed work tomorrow. Hopefully the roads will be clear enough for that? P.S. I just ate a bowl of low fat peanut butter cup ice cream.
| |
| |
Legs were way sore yesterday and today. Decided to get on an elliptical to warm up before I tried to run any. So I did that for 55 minutes. Then I did 10x1 min on/off 5:52 pace. Didn't feel to bad at all. I was surprised. Only did 10 because I ran out of time. Gotta get home and get kids off to school. I need to get back into the habit of taking BCAA capsules on long run days or hard tempo/speed days. They prevent soreness and speed up recovery/repair. They work!
| |
| |
14 miles even this Friday morning. Alone. Left by 5:30. The roads here in my neighborhood and most of all of Spanish Fork are all pretty dry now. There are a couple of slick spots, but majority were good. Had a good run. Went up the hill of Center street around mile 4. It's a mile long uphill. Then turned around and ran back down it. It was a good workout for me for sure. My pubic symphysis has been kind of making itself known during longer runs lately. I am kind of sore today :( I felt good about getting outside and keeping a good pace during my long run today. BCAA capsules before and just took a couple more.
| |
| |
Ran 6.5 and 41 minutes of elliptical. strength training. 3.5 more miles in the pm - river trail loop. 7:22 6:49 6:40 6:40 whatever it was about this run.... just wow, effort didnt feel hard. My fitness is gaining!
| |
| |
Got out at 3 pm in the sun! Thought I was running easy, and a few times saw my watch at a 7:16. Got home and checked my watch. Avg pace 7:15. I really thought I was taking it pretty darn easy. It is feeling eadier as each week passes. Experience tells me I'm gaining fitness. I feel pretty good about my progress. goals this week: hit 55 miles 6 mile tempo at a 6:30 pace.
| |
| |
Ran 9 miles in way thick fog. I felt like my pace was slow because of the fact that I couldn't see, and that I had 5 pounds of clothes on. I still froze! Not the most fun run today. Okay, it sucked! Pubic symphysis bothered me a little today. I guess I don't understand the cause of it.
| |
| | 1 hr and 45 minutes elliptical. Some strength training. No running because I am a tad worried about my pelvis issue. |
| |
8 miles outside. Avg pace: kind of slow. I can't seem to catch a groove early in the cold-dark. Maybe I will start running in the afternoons? I am frustrated. A pm run is going down later. 3.5 rivertrail miles with Rachelle. such a nice afternoon and good company!
| |
| |
8 miles with Rachelle in the Santaquin Orchards loop. It's such a GREAT LOOP! I can't even explain it! Love it. Got a little 3 mile tempo in. That stretch of road was perfect until the last mile which is uphill. Kind of hard! I am not back to full potential but I have plenty of time. 6:34 6:33 6:41. I will take it! :) Rachelle is running so well. Way proud of her! It was cold when we started, but our quick heart rates warmed is up. It was like 10 degrees according to my car temps when we were done.
| |
| | ran 8 miles. walked a mile cool down. 16 minutes elliptical. | |
| | 8 miles avg pave 7:30 I have had to back off a bit from running far and hard efforts because of pelvic and back pain. 30 minutes elliptical. I tried to do some strength training after but it was to overcrowded in all areas due to meathead overpopulation. I am not going to Boston anymore. Long story, don't really want to get into it. Just thought I should mention that on here | |
| | 8 miles avg. pace 7:25 15 min ellipticize, and that was all she wrote. | |
| | 7 outside. I do not like running outside in winter. I am sorry but I cannot love it. My muscles don't really warm and I cannot find a groove. I got home feeling like a total failure. I am not feeling it right now. Went to the gym after running since kids were all at school. Elliptical for 38 minutes. Then strength trained. Fun to see my husband in the gym on his lunch. | |
| |
ran 8 outside. felt better today. avg pace 7:20 43 min elliptical hell at the gym after. All in the name of avoiding valentines day damage.
| |
| |
7.50 easy pace. 20 minutes elliptical. Hard effort. Already feel carb bloated from Valentines treats. Eeeeek!
| |
| | 4 miles in the am 56 minutes on an elliptical Going to try and get out for another 3-4 in an hour or so. | |
| | 7 miles along the beautiful river trail. Sunday sin run. |
| |
8 miles with pick up the last 25 minuets. 31 minutes ellipitical weights
|
| |
7.50 on the river trail. 1.5 miles of warm up. Then 10x1 min on/offs that kicked my rear. I always feel like a failure when I do speed workouts. I really don't know why. The river trail is being worked on up at the top where it's fenced off, to connect to the other trail system that goes up to Canyon View Park. Which is near the mouth of S.F. Canyon. I am so excited! The trail is going to be connected by the time summer is here and I should be able to run 7-10 (or more) continuous miles, and it's off the road in the river bottoms, before I have to stop and flip around! Stoked! Awesome! So excited! So blessed to live by this trail! Core work, some strength training, rubberband stuff etc at home.
| |
| |
8 fast miles later this morning. I didn't feel to good. I didn't sleep very well last night, had no motivation to go running. But I got it done! Avg pace: 7:11 25 minutes elliptical hell. It was total hell. Strength training at home.
| |
| |
8 outside. Ran up the center street hill and back down. Interesting that after you run up a hill and back down, footfall quickens and then continues as you hit flat ground. I love that. Did about 15 minutes of cool down walking afterwards. It's hard to do that right now when it's cold outside. It feels COLD once you've stopped running.
| |
| |
10 miles on the dreadmill. Hated it yet loved it. Loved it because I included a speed workout from miles 4-8. Pulled off some pretty good tricks that boosted my confidence. I have been lacking that for a couple of weeks. I love days like this. Pelvis didn't feel to bad through out. I think I made it to 56 miles this week. YEEEAAAH!!!
| |
| | Um yeah, noo I didn't run on this fine Sunday. I just couldn't. My husband is out of town until Thursday and I stayed in bed and woke to snow. Not a fan of wet shoes and feet so I stayed inside. However, I did do a round of INSANITY the cardio circuit in my bedroom this morning. I can't believe how fracking sweaty I got doing this. I am sore! | |
| | Is it just me, or has February flown by? I swear it was just the 1st. Not complaining, I am not sad to see this harsh winter goes as each week passes. Ran 7.5 -bored as hell. And 25 minutes of ellipitcal. Hoping to get out this afternoon again. I hope... | |
| | 8 miles. Tempo for 4 of that. 6:53-6:35. Have not done a tempo for awhile. I could feel my low back, kind of uncomfortable for a few minutes there. I don't get it. Strength training for about 15 minutes. 21 minutes elliptical. Should have just left home. Ah well. | |
| |
7.5 outside recovery run. Felt slower than slow and I let that bother me to much. I always hurt after speed workouts (like yesterday & Saturday) and now I am remembering back to Summer 2011 when every time I tried to do more speed my low back would teeter. So I think I am going to go back to just trying to run a good effort everyday and forget the crazy speed workouts. It's not serving my body well at this point. I am going to work on getting my cadence to a good clicking effort each day and keep it at 7-8 miles. When UVM is close, I will add in 2 long run days a week. I should be good to go. Better than getting injured. Wearing 5 lbs of extra clothes is bugging me. I want it warm now! I feel so bogged down outside. UGH!!!!!!!!!! Oh, around 5 miles, a dude that lives in my neighborhood came trotting up next to me and said something. Scared the hello out of me. I had headphones on so I screeched out loud. Keep in mind this was 6:15 in the morning. Holy motha! Kyle runs, has run some long distance races, done some tri's, an ironman and I believe a 50 mile. He works with Davey Crockett. He took great delight in saying "YES! I get to tell everyone that I caught up to Lily". Recovery runs suck!
| |
| | I decided to take a small break from running. Just till Sunday. 1 hour 25 minutes elliptical. Not to bad. |
| |
Did 1 hour and 25 minutes on the elliptical. My low back, legs, pelvis and adductors are already feeling much better. I was feeling like I was seesawing with a possible injury. So I have backed off for about 4-5 days, then I will start running again. It's not a big deal, I've done this before for longer stretches of time and it works for me. You don't lose speed or fitness. It stays the same. Good times. Strength training for 20 minutes.
| |
| | What a beautiful morning! Ran on the trail. Started just before sunrise and it was so pretty out. Cold but I didn't care! My legs, back and pelvis felt really good. I had a lot of energy and tons of agility in my legs. 8 miles avg pace: 7:20 :) :) :) | |
| |
8 outside. finding a quicker footfall thanks to fast tunes. 5 pick ups intermingled in there. avg pace:7:20 Elliptical hellishness afterwards at Golds for 35 minutes.
| |
| | Strength trained at for about 20 minutes. I really don't like hanging with the meat heads so much. Then 40 minutes of elliptical, where I had to pep talk myself into running in the cold outside. It took a lot of will power to walk past the treadys today and drive home to run on the trail. It just felt so cold. But I am glad I did, it turned out to be a really good feeling run. Cold but I got out at 6:15 to 7:15 and so I saw sunrise and it was light enough to ditch the ugly headlamp. Hate that thing! Yesterday it left an ugly red line across my forehead. Anyway, 7.25 miles on the trail and gallivanting in my hood'. | |
| |
8 miles in the wind! I have a philosophy that running into the wind makes one a stronger runner. I also had a philosophy that If I eat a bag of mini robin eggs it doesn't matter if it is snowing outside, it will be spring in my heart. Spring in my heart brings thunder to my thighs... No more philosophizing until summer! I also notice that my font is changing as I go on. What is happpening here?!?!
| |
| |
20 minutes of Strength training. 40 minutes of elliptical. Really hard effort that wore me out before I ran. Came home and ran 6.5 outside, up the Center Street hill and back down. So hard. I know I didn't run my usual 7-8 miles today, but the efforts were hard enough that I felt like I did 10 miles. I'm sitting here eating breakfast and trying to type. I keep dropping my precious scrambled eggs into my lap. Where's my coordination? Speaking of food. What kind of diet does everyone eat? Leave a comment and tell me how/what you truly eat everyday. I am curious about other runners diets.

Shin splints. So I am forced to take time off. 1 hr 17 minutes elliptical. I hope my leg feels better soon.
| |
| | 1 hr 30 minutes of elliptical. It is a long time to be on that machine. But with my shin and calf hurting, it's just something I need to do :( |
| | Walked 3 miles on the Spanish Fork River trail. |
| | 1 hr 17 minutes on the elliptical doing high intensity intervals | |
| |
I can tell my calf/shin is getting better already. So thankful that when I do get hurt, my body seems to heal rather quickly. Strength trained for 25 minutes. 1 hr 21 minutes on the elliptical doing high intensity intervals. Sweat was flying and my hair and shirt were soaked. -Sweat running down my shins and I didn't care.
| |
| |
44 minutes on the elliptical high intensity intervals again. This no running really blows but there is nothing I can do right now. I am doing the smart thing. I have to keep reminding myself that. I am not full blown injured, but it was going that way, which is why I stopped. I'll be back very soon. Doctor called and my iron level is low. (20) no wonder I felt like crap this winter running. Ugh! Iron transfusion here I come tomorrow! Lame! ha
| |
| |
Just another day of elliptical fun. Yep, another day. But hey, my leg is feeling 150x better than a week ago. Woohoo! 1 hr on the elliptical doing sprint intervals. Sweat was the name of the game. Got to chat with Brandon Dase which is always fun. And Kira :) I did strength train before my time in elliptical hell. Forgot to put that first. 20 minutes of strength training. Meathead city! Monday's and Tuesday's are the worst on the weight floor. Meat heads everywhere. Today and Friday are usually the most dry. Going to St. George! wahooo
| |
| Race: |
St. George Spectrum 10k (6.2 Miles) 00:41:27
Surprise! I ran a race today. Updating from my phone. More details later. *I haven't run in 9 days, but I registered for this in January and since my legs were feeling better, I came down any way. I decided to hold back a bit on the speed to not jolt my legs back into a bout of shin\calf issues. So I took it easy the first 2-3 miles. Then kicked it into gear the last 3 I t worked and I am not unhappy with the time. I know I could have knocked a good minute & 30 of this time, but again just went out careful. So fun to see so so many familiar faces. And meet Christie. RAD and I got to rub elbows the first mile. She is so funny! Good day. Good weekend. I have been here visiting family since Thursday.
| |
| |
6 miles this morning. Ran from my house to the Sports Park (1.5 mile) and ran 3.5 miles on the soft grass. Then 2 more back home and around the hood. The grass running is quite hard to do, but feels good on the joints. It's a little hard to explain. It's almost like running in sand. I tried not to look at pace at all today because 1) I was really slow, legs are sore from Saturday's race. 2) I was running on grass, which just slows you down period. Good run though. I think it was wise to hit the grass today. Shin and calf from what I can tell didn't hurt at all today either. Good sign. I really really hope and pray that I have no more shin and calf issues this year. It ruined any races for me last year. I want to race this year.
| |
| | Strength training for 20 minutes 40 minutes elliptical Ran 6.80 still running slow, legs are a little sore and fatigued. Felt a little achiness in my calf and shin. Noooo! The slow runs are a little demoralizing. I kept spooking myself out on this run. Thinking I see someone when there is nobody there. Being back in the dark sucks! I did see something strange but funny. I guy ran past me smoking a cigarette. LOL | |
| |
Dude! I am having the weirdest day. I ran 4 miles this morning and every single mile hurt! Calf hurts. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY GAIT or landing.... or whatever. So I cut the run short. I came home and put on my new Saucony Mirage's. I haven't run in them yet. Went to Gold's and worked on the elliptical for 42 more minutes. Good effort. A little strength training after. Went to Walmart (and you know that's entertaining). Back home yada yada yada. After I put my groceries away I decided to do a short jaunt to test my new shoes. They felt good so I just wanted to see what they were like. Well I ran like half a mile and NO PAIN. What?!?!?!? I do not understand! Either the mirage is a REALLY awesome shoe, or a miracle has happened. Or maybe neither and it's a fluke. Well I went out again and I still feel no pain in my calf. But this morning the 4 miles was torture and I even ran some of that on grass. For the love of Pete!
| |
| |
2 miles on the treadmill and I was in pain. I have to take time off 1 hour on elliptical. Hard effort. Strength training.
|
| | 1 hour on elliptical on a really high level. Sweat. Injuries suck. | |
| | 1 hr 20 minutes elliptical. Hard effort. Sweating like no other. I probably should just copy and paste this for the next 2 weeks because this is what it's going to say on my blog-o for 15 more days. I am positive I will be better by then. I hope I don't lose much running fitness. :( | |
| | 1 hour elliptical. Hard,hard effort. |
| | Strength training for 25 minutes. 1 hr 6 minutes elliptical. Effort is staying hard. Like nothing I have ever pushed before on there. |
| | 1 hr elliptical. A few weights. Worked core. |
| | Strength training for about 30 minutes. Got told I look more ripped. Yeah, that's what happens when you don't run your tissue away. 1 hour 10 minutes elliptical HARD effort. I wish I could explain how hard of an effort I am putting in. hmmm Maybe this will help, my heart rate is staying between 166-180. Spiking to 180 when I go to level 18, other than that, I stay at a level 16 or 17. It's the only thing I can think of do to to save my running fitness. I am not getting hurt on the elliptical, so please no lectures. My calf is already feeling healed. But I know from experience that it is to soon to try and run. I need another week or more. | |
| | 1 hour elliptical on a high level. walked on an incline for 10 minutes. My leg is feeling better. I'll probably try running next week. I have been doing all kinds of crazy PT exercises for my tibialis posterior. I need to keep it a regular thing in my daily life. Obviously I am weak in that area to have this happen twice in a year. | |
| | Back from injury Yahoo! 4 miles on the trail and I feel wonderful. I have tons of explosive energy, almost like I actually gained more fitness. I'm so happy! The only question is do I have time to increase mileage for UVM? I just don't know! | |
| | No running today. just going to jump back in slowly. 1 miserable hour on the elliptical :/ | |
| |
Ran 3 miles then walked half a mile, then ran 2 more miles. I had to force myself to run slow. I have the fitness to still pick up some speed, but I'm smart enough to know I could end up hurt again. Soooo I will be holding back for a few weeks. But oh it feels good to run!!! Nothing beats it. I love it ! 20 minutes elliptical. I did strength train before running too.
| |
| | 6! I should have rested today, but I resisted. So I ran 6! 23 minutes elliptical fun | |
| | 3 pathetic miles with pain in my rib area. I don't know what's going on. got on an elliptical where there was still some pain. For 25 more minutes. |
| | 1 hour and 5 minutes on the elliptical. A little strength training. |
| |
I cannot lie, I loved watching Boston coverage this morning but I am seriously heart broken I couldn't be there. I am really frustrated that I cant' seem to get through a training cycle anymore without getting hurt. Where before (2002-2010) my body held up like a work horse. I could put a lot of stress on it and it would always bounce right back. Not so much anymore. I finally got my calf healed up and started running a week ago. Thursday I started hurting in my ribs really bad. I went to urgent care Saturday morning only to find out that the really bad cough I've had for 3 weeks has put a stress fracture on a side and a back rib. I also have some cartilage damage in the same areas. FROM A COUGH. But this hasn't been any old cough, it's been really bad. Not letting me sleep, coughing until my ribs felt like they would snap in half. So here I sit wondering when I will run again. I tried Friday but it hurt really bad. I stopped after 3 miles. My side and ribs had intense pain. UNCLE!!! i've had enough! Workout today: 1 hour 15 minutes on the elliptical. Doesn't really hurt so much. The jarring of running hurts my ribs. But this afternoon I am feeling better. Maybe I will see what it's like to run tomorrow. I'll be careful
| |
| | 9!!!! Feeling so so so so so so so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
| | ran 5 on the old dreadmill, then 25 minutes on an elliptical. Im a little sore from yesterday. | |
| | Ran 7.5 with Scott. Good chit chat, went by quick. Legs feel fresh. 20 minutes elliptical. |
| | River trail plus river trail numero dos. I had a very beautiful and sun shiney run on the river trail and the river trail number 2. (it's still not connected, sick of the hold up). Felt good! |
| |
5 outside in Sunshine before the clouds moved in. I didn't run until about 8:30. I'm glad I slept in and glad I got to run outside in the sun. My leg is having phantom-help me-I forgot what it's like to run everyday- pains. It will remember more in the coming weeks. Stupid right leg. I am weird, sometimes I will just be sitting here, and I will look down at my leg and cuss at it in my head and ask it what the Bleep is wrong with it that it keeps having this strain and tibia pain issue. I really don't get it... ha ha 40 minutes on an eliptical and weights.
| |
7 miles. I feel a little slow, but I am really so happy to be out running. Beautiful morning, with a pretty sunrise tho it was a little cold. I can't believe the temps we've had for April. This is crazy. I had a dream last night that my Dr. called and said my Iron level was back up. Ha, yeah right. In my dreams.
| | 8.20 on the River trail loop, twice. Beautiful crisp morning. My legs feel stale and my pace is kind of slow. I can't help but feel a little down about this. Still glad to be out running. Avg pace 8:08 | |
| | 7 miles on River trail uno and dos. Beautiful. I run more slowly now. If I try to pick up too much speed, my right leg creaks and then I feel weakness in the calf. What is to become of my running? Sad and a little scary. | |
| | Didnt run today. My legs hurt Sunday morning. So I lifted weights like a mad women and then elliptical hell for only 30 minutes. pm: Night walk 3 miles |
| | 3 miles of 6:00 pace sprints (200m) on the River trail. Good enough for me. I didn't even hurt. Nice. 48 minutes on the elliptical at the lame gym. Low intensity. | |
| | 50 minutes of elliptical. And that was all she wrote. Yes my leg is still bothering me. May stop running again. | |
| | ran 3 miles, weights and 23 minutes elliptical. leg felt really good today. I will probably stick to every other day running for awhile. Im planning to run Provo city 5k tomortow. Its all in the air as to what I can pull off. If theres no pain, I will try to find some kick. If I have discomfort, It wont be stellar I can tell you that. Please come through muscle memorey! haha | |

Provo City 5k (3.1 Miles) 00:21:11, Place overall: 5, Place in age division: 2
Not my best, but as usual with Run13, the course was over by .10 Sorry but even if the USTAF says its ok for them to mark it over, it bugs that they mark it over every time. The competitive part of me wants to swipe 20-30 seconds from this finish time. (same for you Allie!) Forgot that I was running this today and did split squats weighted at the gym yesterday. Woke up with serious dead hips today. My husband dropped me while at a red light on University Ave. My eyes welled up with tears on the bumper to bumper drive down University, as I watched the half marathoners. Most heavy breathing and struggling. I haven't run a long distance race for almost 2 years and I watched them longingly. Saw Jen Hughes and Allie at the start, hucked my gum over the top of everyone to the bushes on the side of the road, it didn't make it. Some bawled man got it in the head oops :/ splits: 6:34 6:37 6:50. I didn't have the fitness to hold the 3rd mile in the 6:30's but I expected that with all the time off since Middle March. Fingers crossed for running well May-Sept. Pact with Satan? Ran another mile with bandit daughter Maile in the kids race. She kicked butt. 7:30 mile. She got to the start about 12 seconds after the race start and passed 98% of the kids. Only my daughter... :) 3 more fast miles on the river trail at home. Son riding his bike next to me.
| |
| | Weights -lots. Elliptical doing some hiit for 15 minutes. Then I ran 2 miles, and I am just not feeling it. Had some creaky pains. I give up. 20 more minutes elliptical. | |
| | 1 hr 13 minute elliptical. |
| | Got to the gym by 5 and strength trained for 35 minutes. Crunched my abs really well. Then 14 minutes elliptical. Left and met Rachelle and Coach Jen at Wendys and we ran the river trail loop twice. Easy pace. 7 miles total and what a fantastic sunrise and perfect temps. I sure do love to run with these 2! | |
| | 1 hr and 20 minutes of elliptical. | |
| | 5 minute elliptical warm up, strength training for 30 minutes. Came home and ran a little over 7 on the river trail. Had to do a but of true off roading in the dirt... they are cutting down old or dead trees and there is some machinery and huge branches on the path. So darn near a true trail run in dirt and uneven surfaces. Wowza! Kept it easy the first 4 miles, dropped the pace by 40-seconds the last 3. Legs felt really good. | |
| | 6 miles. Last 3 tempo. Feeling good!! Every other day running is serving me well. | |
| | Strength training and 45 minutes elliptical. | |
| | Since I run every other day now, I walked for 43 minutes on the river trail this morning. Then went to the gym and lifted heavy for 35 minutes. Then 36 minutes HIIT on an elliptical. I feel good not running everyday right now. I can see myself adopting this as a new fitness routine. It has made me realize that running everyday makes my body release more cortisol. It's in a more stressed state that way. I feel better overall now. Just my 2 cents. Maybe I will discontinue logging this running blog too. I wouldn't see the need. I am losing motivation and drive to want to run everyday. :/ | |
| | 7 miles Does anyone think its possible to be ready for UVM half running every other day? If I do a 10-12 miler once a week, and the other days that I run 7-8 miles. I don't know... I felt ok during this today. My legs don't hurt at all anymore, I am just out of mojo. | |
| | strength trained for about 40 minutes. Hard effort. Elliptical. 40 minutes all together. 20 minutes of that was hiit. | |
| |
Ran 7 miles with Rachelle and Jen in Salem. I have an appreciation on the days when I run with them because they are obviously more tough than me, -willing to run in the rain. I gave in to peer pressure and came any way. Not sure what I was worried about. It actually felt good to run in the cool rain. Soaked after. They push the pace without going over the top and I really love and have missed that! avg pace 7:22.
| |
| | 7 miles with Jen on the river trail. Avg pace 7:35 Beautiful morning out!!! | |
| | Just a good old rest day. 25 minutes of weights. 25 minutes of Elliptical. Did sprint intervals on it. Sweaty! | |
| | Met Rachelle, Jen, Mackenzie, Aubrey and the famous Holli ( Holli=2:43 marathoner) for a double river trail loop at a slow recovery pace. It felt good and the company was way fun!!! Cold out, but very pretty! 7 miles avg pace 8:00 | |
| | 10 with the beautiful Carina up Provo Canyon. Headwind was going on as usual. Great chit chat. Really cool temps but not uncomfortable or cold. My first double digit run since March. Felt great the whole time. Carina is very fit! I am really impressed with her this last year and a half. Excited to run with her again. After doing this 10 (avg pace 7:30) I feel more confident in doing the half in 2 weeks and finishing. I am not really caring about time at all. A first for me. ha | |
| | 7 on river trail 1 and 2. easy pace. 8:30 avg. |
| | 7.5 on river trail 1 and 2 again. So so nice out. Avg pace is dropping and I realized once again, that if I am not with anyone and not talking (which I love btw) I can hit faster paces without getting breathless. My fitness already feels much improved. Wow it does that kind of fast. I am always kind of amazed. | |
| | weights. 30 minutes elliptical with intervals. | |
| | 7 miles with Rachelle, Jen and Cam. Cam pushed the pace a little more. I didn't have my watch on so I have no idea our pace. But it felt good. Nice morning out. | |
| | 12 miles! Haven't done this kind of mileage for months! Miles 3-6 were partial steep uphill then to incline going towards the Mouth of S.F. canyon. The views at mile 6 were incredible as I was near the massive windmills near the canyon. Amazing. Flipped around at 6 and came back down. Miles 6-9 felt good because it was decline then downhill. Mile 10 was fine. But 11-12 were hard. I just don't have the endurance. I could feel chaffing between my thighs, it was getting worse as I got to 12. I shed a few tears in the last mile. I had a mental war in my mind about whether I can run UVM half or if I will fizzle and die. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried. oh my! | |
| | 5 easy miles. weights. 10 min elliptical sprints |
| | 8 on the trail. easy again. |
| | 6 miles of giant hills in Draper this morning. | |
| |
7 miles on the river trail. avg pace 7:35 Saw Rachelle and her Sister on my 2nd loop around. Lot's of people out on the trail today. Sunrise was so so so beautiful!
| |
| | 4.5 with Rachelle, Jen and Mackenzie in Payson. Good run. Played catch Rachelle and Jen the last half mile. Mackenzie and I didn't try to go as quick as the other gals, but we did pick it up some. Fun morning for sure. If Rachelle's feet behave Saturday, watch for her to blast UVM easy peasy. | |

Utah Valley Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:33:10, Place overall: 19, Place in age division: 4 | | I got on the bus with Allie this morning at 4 am I love her! We just click. Had a warm up run with her and Jen. Also with Kassie :)
It was truly heart breaking for me to let a handful of Women go out and pass me in the first 5 miles. Just as I was starting to let my confidence slide, I reminded myself that I was not there to prove anything. I was just here to run the half and finish without getting re injured. I think this is the first time I have neg split a race? Maybe I am wrong... I can't remember. Any way. That's what I did. From miles 10-13 I passed up 4 of the women. I felt really good the whole time. I wasn't tired at any point. It was kind of amazing to see what it feels like to actually finish a longer distance feeling more strong. There was a girl on my heels that last mile. I could hear and sense her right on my shoulder, trying with all her might to get back passed me. Somehow I was able to hold her off. After drinking water, eating a smoothie and walking around with my husband, I decided to run back up the course to find Rachelle. It was something I really wanted to do. I am so glad now that I did. It was kind of an emotional experience for me. I found her at 24.5 with her sister Amber who was riding a bike. Her Sister was talking to her. Reminding her of all the harder things she has done than run this marathon. Sorry, I guess I am emotional but tears started stinging my eyes as I remembered all the truly hard things I have gone through. They became the driving force for me 4 years ago to find more speed and endurance and fire in my running. They were what drove me to finally run a marathon. Those things call out our courage and our strength. I just tried to keep Rachelle's legs moving and reminding her to control her breathing. I had plenty of pep left in my legs to speed her up if needed. So awesome to see her cross the line at around a 2:59. Made my day! Congrats Rachelle! And now it's onto building up more miles and endurance. I have lost some. I need to get it back.
| |
| | 6 slow miles. I mean sloooooow :) | |
| |
7 mile river trail run. I would describe my run with these words: heavenly sunrise. Bugs stuck to my lip gloss lips. (mental note, take lip gloss off before running!). Light on my feet. Leg turnover quick. A lot of runners out. Beautiful river. Birds chirping everywhere. Warm outside. Cottonwood seeds everywhere, looks like Christmas snow! Legs feeling better from Saturday. Can't wait for tomorrow's run already :) 25 minutes weights
| |
| | On the trail with Rachelle and her Sister Amber. Loved it. We ran a very slow-good feeling pace. I love that! | |
| | Weights for 35 minutes. HIIT intervals on the elliptical.
|
| |
9 miles- river trail 1 and #2. So beautiful out. Love this time of year.
avg pace 7:45
Small amount of free weight lifting at home.
| |
| | No running Weights and HIIT on the elliptical for 40 min |
| | 7.20 river trail loops. avg pace 7:53 nothing very stellar | |
| | 30 minutes of hiit sprints on the elliptical. Weights |
| | 7.50 outside. Avg pace is dropping a little more each week on my alone runs. |
| |
I did a true speed workout today. It's been a loooong while! February was the last time I have done a real speed workout. 30 minutes of 8:30 pace then 12x200 m. 6:18 pace. Took so much out of me but I did it.
I got back from Lake Powell last night around 1 am. What a week of excessive eating it always is. And eating to much gives me anxiety I'm afraid. This is the week of clamping down on my intake...every year.
| |
| | 6.25 on the trail. Not very fast today at all. | |
| | Avg pace 7:50 Ran into a lot of headwind. I felt like it didn't matter which direction I changed too, there was wind! | |
| | 8 miles. First 30 minutes 8:12 pace. Then did 12x200m at a 6:10 pace. This felt a little easier than last Friday. | |
| | 8 miles on the river trail. Kept my pace what felt like easy.I actually felt really good considering yesterdays intervals. Im trying to pay more attention to how I feel when I run each day, and document it. Im also going to get more consistent in running about the same mileage everyday. -which will be 8 miles a day, and a long run once a week. I am also considering doing two a days a few times a week. just a short, very easy evening run. | |
| | Ran 8 miles and my body felt somewhat okay. Sometimes my feet hurt. Today they kind of did. Low back was tight at first. Steps felt quick and light tho. |
| | 10 miles. Hips were a bit tight. Other than that, felt pretty good. Ran in a lot of wind. I was getting rained on the first 2 miles. Then it stopped and it was just wind. I think this is my first double digi since I ran UVM. I have no motivation sometimes :/ | |
| | I woke up to a text from Rachelle (from Sunday night) that said she was running Spanish Fork's speedy spaniard 10k course at 6:15ish. But I woke up at 6. So I threw on my stuff fast as I could, and ran from my house to a road that goes into the Spanish Fork river bottoms. Ran for about 2 miles until I came upon Rachelle and Amber Dunford. So fun! So I ran about 3 miles with them. We had a good time. Once to the finish line, I had to go, so it was about a mile more home. I forgot to start my watch once I had stopped it, so today's mileage is a guess. | |
| | I was supposed to meet Rachelle but I am so tired lately that I turn off my alarm in my sleep. I cannot wake up. I am staying up much later than I used too. I just can't wake the same without enough rest. Anyways, woke by 6:10 on my own. Got out and ran 8. My left heel has been hurting for quite some time. PF hurt. Today I noticed my right was hurting slightly too. Great. Other than that, kept a good clipping pace. Nothing tight and I was full of energy at least.
| |
| | 8 miles. I was in a church meeting last night (casual chick meeting more like it) until 11:15. Didn't get to bed until after midnight. I cannot wake up in the mornings. Quick 8 at 8 am Usually I am done by 7. I am not getting the sleep I need this summer. I will have to start getting more boring and strict. ha :) | |
| | 8 miles avg pace 7:50 Felt a little low on energy. Little pick up. | |
| |
Went out for my run and got caught in the downpour at 1.5 miles in. I was so so so so soaked. I had on my brand new Brooks Ravennas. Anyone know if shoes get ruined from being that soaked? Its the first day I have worn them and they were soaked completely through. That was a crazy run. My headphones stopped working. I hope my ipod is ok!?
| |
| |
12 miles up canyon road to the Escalante cross trail. I failed to mention yesterday that I did speed intervals, so today running long felt really hard! I wanted to die the last 2 miles. I don't see how I am going to run a marathon in Sept?!?! I feel like I can barely do a half :( Really happy with the last 2 weeks now, doing 50+ miles each week. Hope it keeps climbing. I am trying.
| |
| | Legs were heavy, calves were sore. I was tired. Did first 6 easy, last 2 miles ran hard. Had to dig deep to do it. Seriously, my self confidence is just teetering. | |
| | Calves were all balled up when I awoke. So I opted to run flat ground. I don't know what the deal is but I have no energy. Could be that I had low iron (that was checked by my Dr. in March) and I haven't been taking my iron pills at all for like 3 months. I am not sure what the deal is but I don't have the energy to train for TOU. I am seriously seriously thinking about dropping the idea. And just backing off on running. I don't feel well again. Somehow managed 7 miles even though I honestly had to stop 3 times to due to low energy and light head. This isn't very fun
| |
| | 7 on the river trail loop with Rachelle and Josse. Good easy run. GREAT chit chat. Love our running chats. Those 2 got to see what a sweaty betty I really am. I was dripping everywhere! This humidity is insane! | |
| | 9.5 on the boneville shoreline trail in Provo Canyon. Steep the first 1.5, then flattened out and oh my! the views! Ran with JulieC, Cam, Rachelle h& Josse. Rebecca wss there the first 3 miles too. It was pretty rocky, but very runable. Such a great start for the day. Summa! Enjoy now before its gone! | |
| | 11 miles on the river trail. Beautiful morning. | |
| | 6.5 up the center street hill. Feeling so good. On flight to D.C. as I type :) | |
| | 4 miles on the busy streets of Washington D.C |
| | 3 miles in D.C. Craziest running I have ever done in my life. I have walked miles and miles everywhere in this city! | |
| | Sprints on/offs. Lasting 1 minute each. Always a sweaty workout. |
| | 5 miles on the tready. Woke to late to run outside in this heat. I was up until 2 am. This is nuts and I never do that. |
| |
So.....this is really weird to write this. I have been thinking a lot the past few days. I am generally just burned out with running. I feel like crap most days. I go in and out of motivation. I feel really tired. I feel more physical and mental stress, the more I try to increase mileage. I must be getting old :) To get right down to it, I've realized that for now, I have had enough. Enough of the daily grind of running and training. It isn't feeling fun anymore. So I am taking a break. Who knows for how long. I will do other forms of exercise. But I won't be running daily anymore for now. I need a reset. Probably won't jump on the blog very often.. It's just that I need a break from it on all fronts. Loves & fist bumps to all.
| |
| | 8.25 on the trail twice. Had a blast running in the dark alone. I love alone runs sometimes. Today was a day like that. I had a lot of pep and energy. avg pace 7:50 |
| | 3 miles of sprint on/offs. 1 mile steady. |
| |
18 miles with Carina. We went up Provo Canyon trail 9 miles (into south fork) and back down 9. I have not run quite this far for like, 2 years. Wowza! avg pace was 7:41 for me. We always click well, her and I. We have good chats. I feel bad I probably slowed her a bit. I still don't have the most awesome fitness. But the last 3 miles I told her to go and do a good tempo. And she did. She's so fit! I hovered around 6:55-7 on the way back. I am excited to see how Carina does in St. George and how her progress comes along in the next year. If I can do 18 today, I can do a marathon in September right? :\
| |
| |
7 groggy miles around Spanish Fork. I took a muscle relaxer for my jaw last night. It gives me the worst hangover like feeling. Excited to run hobble creek half on Saturday. Notice I didn't say "race hobble creek half". lol I don't really have the racing fire in me this year... it left, when my leg got hurt again.

Surprise track workout with Rachelle, Jen, Melissa, Mackenzie, Aubrey and Amber! Surprise for me totally. Rachelle is a sly devil, she knows what she's doing with me especially. If she would have told me last night, she knows I probably would have chickened out! The plan was 6x800 with a 200m recovery jog. I didn't do all the 800's with them, I felt a pull in my left hammy after the 3rd set. (3:03 3:06 3:09) so I just pulled back to a 6:40 6:50 pace and held it there for the remainder of the workout. Still not to shabby for me. I haven't done anything by way of speed for months and months and it shows :( But my effort was there.
Fun morning with these ladies. We did a warm up and a cool down on a little 3/4 mile path next to the high school. Really cute little path. Mileage is a guess.
| |
| |
7 miles with Jen and Amber on the river trail. We all had somewhat tired and heavy legs due to our 800's at the track yesterday. So we tried to keep the pace easy, easy for jen is a 7:20 :) Jen Hughes who is a very talented and inspirational Utah road racer, now has a website. Check it out and read her 'about me' section. She is amazing. If you've ever raced with her, you will always note the right foot turned in. She runs like a superstar! http://motherracer.com/

Hobble Creek half (13.1 Miles) 01:33:00
Things were going great in this race for me until my left hamstring pulled and I was thrust into a painful walk/jog from miles 11-13. I am pretty down about this. I was on track for about a 1:27. A huge boost from my UVM half time in early June. My splits tell the story of today: 6:21 6:30 6:42 6:30 6:40 6:45 7:04 6:50 7:00 7:00 (then hamstring pulled up at the top of a hill here) 8:50 8:00 9:24. Why me? Why do I keep getting hurt? I pulled this hamstring a bit at the track on Tuesday. The track will forever be banned on my workout regime! :( But I had to finish. I had to keep going. I dedicated this race to my nephew Vaughn. He has been in primary childrens all week. He was vomiting non stop for over a week. Dehydrating and looking like death. He is only 7 weeks old. So in the end, he was the reason why I didn't DNF. So a walk jog it had to be. Mass pain! I felt really good. I had planned on doing a 7 min pace through mile 11. And I had plenty left in the tank for a 6:50 for the last 2 remaining miles. That was the plan until the hammy pull.
| |
| | 7 outside avg pace 7:36. Im. Back!!!!! | |
| | Coming back cautiously. 6.5 miles today. minutes 30-45 speed on offs. My hamstring shows zero signs of a pull 4 weeks ago. So frustrated with my body this last year. I do therapy in my mirror like everyday, tellig myself that my body is fine and that I can get back to where I used to be a couple years ago. I will. I am determined. I get knocked down, but I always get back up...
| |
| | On the river trail. Avg pace 7:35 |
| | 13 years ago I was married in San Diego California. Such a good day! Quick trail run this morning. | |
| | 6.5 miles avg. pace 7:40 A little chilly, but not bad. It feels good to be up first thing in the morning and running.
| |
| | I woke up and felt so tired, I almost turned and went right back to sleep . but no , I got up! And I'm so glad . Ran 6 miles and it felt nice and cool out there. Really clear skies (finally) and pretty sunrise. I love my morning runs. I get to think and be inside of my mind. 2 fast laps on the track on my way home 6:20 pace. | |
| | 8 miles on the river trail. I left at 6:40 am. I know I say this all the time, but, it was so pretty out and best sunrise ever. I could feel wind and so I knew TOU runners would possibly have tailwind today. I felt a little glum yesterday that once again, I am missing a marathon due to bodily beat-up-ness. Ah well. I don't stop trying to get through a marathon training cycle. I will get back there.
| |
| | 2 min.on 6:15 pace 1 min off 7:40. Worked over! |
| | 5 miles fast. That was my only goal today -to get out & go fast. And hold whatever my fast is the whole run. Did it. 5 miles in 34 minutes.
Free weights, planks, ab drill, wall sits and burpees at home after
| |
| | 4.25 in 30 minutes
10 minutes of imtense elliptical intervals.
| |
| | 8 miles
Of course river trail style. Love my morning runs. And esp loving Saturday runs these days!
|
| | I did 30 minutes of elliptical intervals at a really hard effort. Sweaty!
Then ran 2 miles fast.
| |
| | 5 miles fast. I guess you can say I'm on the run less run faster program. I am enjoying running less miles, but running faster.
| |
| | 6 miles. Frosty trail. Beautiful run. So thankful for my legs that truly carry me.
|
| | 6 miles. Dang, it's cold outside. When did this start happening? :)
avg pace 7:24
| |
| | 7.5 miles total. 8x400 sweaty and tough. 86 seconds on all | |
| | Elliptical for 45 minutes. Intense o./offs
|
| | Warm up for 1.65 then 1 min on/offs 6:07 pace/ 7:40 pace 10x
5 miles total.
| |
| | 6.5 outside. My watch is not catching satellite. No idea on pace. I am a bit annoyed with my garmin
|
| | My favorite run of 2013 (thus far) running in lightly falling snow. So beautiful and strangely fun and memorable :) | |
| | 5 miles. 3 miles of speed intervals. They hurt! |
| | 7 miles on the river trail loop with Jen, Amber, Scott & Melissa!
|
| | 7 miles. Really really perfect weather to be outside running. I feel very out of shape. I made a goal to start running everyday again. I've been slacking off since I pulled my hamstring in August. My one problem is that I still have heel pain in my left foot (since May).
|
| | 6.75 outside in shorts. You would never know that was possible looking outside later this week. (wed)
|
| | 40 minutes elliptical.
Bulged a disc in my lower back improperly bending after my run on Monday morning. I was darn near handicapped Monday morning-Tues afternoon. On ibuprofen for 36 hours straight. Then something happened. I said a prayer, and it started getting better. Feeling almost back to myself. Discs don't just heal in 2 days.
| |
| | 42 minutes of intense eliptical until I can be sure my back is all better. It hurt like heck on Tuesday morning when I tried to run. So I stopped. But later that day it all started feeling better. This is so weird.
| |
| | On the tready. Good times.
