I've had a realization of sorts the last few days.  I have been dealing with a self confidence issues in my running abilities for a while now. It all started with that 8 week injury in January, and then it has been further exasperated by the little injuries afterwards ( PF type thing, phantom knee pain, and now a sore tendon). I feel like just when I work back up to my old self, something will start hurting and my confidence takes a hit again. The injury from the winter and now all the other little ones that keep popping up are all on my right side/leg. It makes me wonder if there is some kind of mechanical issue going on with me on that right side. Anyway, this morning during my short run which was after an hour on the elliptical, I realized that I just need to be happy with what I can do in the moment. I don't want to let the little things deter my vision of the goals I have this year. If I need a running rest for a week, than so be it.

I think the mind plays a lot of games with us in our running abilities. Today I just had to dig deep to remember all the adversities I've gone through to get where I am now. I am not going to let a little pain stop me from the things I will accomplish.  That doesn't mean I will ignore them and run myself into the ground, but if I am feeling good and run a race, then I won't tell myself that I can't do a certain time. I won't throw a grim outlook on the rest of the summer just because my knee might be bothering me a bit (or a sore tendon!) . I am just going to change my mindset and hope the rest will follow suit.

That's all.  Happy Tuesday.

Right side issues? Could it be that you're wearing that fancy bracelet on your left wrist? :)

Seriously, you are an awesome runner! If you have any doubts about that just go read some of your race reports. These little injuries will pass and you will be even stronger than before.

You really are an incredible runner. I like this resolve. We run because we love it right? So even if we can't do what we want to in a certain race it shouldn't change the love we have for running!!

Lily, since we don't run for a living I think we should all just be happy to run ... that said, I think runners are naturally a little (or a lot) competitive, either with other runners or ourselves. Learning how to tap that energy (competitive) and NOT hurt ourselves is a difficult task to learn. For me, it is all about learning patience (which is/was hard for me to learn) ... great things come when we learn to train slowly and methodically (not run slowly, train slowly). Think of it as months and years not days and weeks. Methodically means run very slow most days so you can *really* ramp it up on the other days -- but not "all out" (save that for races), just within yourself fast (you should always feel like you could do 2 or 3 more ... miles, laps, etc. in training -- in a race you leave it all out there).

Thats my old lady advice. As a running friend, no advice just a big hug ;-).

I need your positive outlook!

Bonnie I loved your first sentence. We don't all run for a living, and we should just be happy to be running. AMEN!

Actually, if you go look at Tylers' blog, he wrote about that on his Ogden half race report. It really hit me what he said about how racing isn't his job, and it can take a backseat at times. I am just glad to be running at this time after not running this winter. That was hard on me.

Bonnie I think you have the most wisdom of anybody on this blog and I mean that. I'm so glad you took time to tell me these things today :) sure love ya!

Thanks Calvin, Julie, Rattle and Carina! I appreciate your comments today.
