Ran a slow 3.75 on the river trail this afternoon. I had a scary encounter with a man dressed kind of thuggish-like. My inner voice was telling me to turn around and run back the way I came. I should have listened. I'm fine though. Just need to learn to listen to my instinct.

That is scary Lily! I am always afraid to run on a trail by myself. Glad you listened to your inner voice. Sometimes it is hard to do when you have a certain mile number you have planned on running. Bring mace or keep a rock in your hand. Glad you are safe!

It was scary. I literally heard a voice yelling at me to turn around (in my mind) and I am such a doubter... I didn't. The guy stopped me and seemed like he had to "think up" a reason to stop me. After he hesitated he asked if I had seen a guy with 2 dogs. Not sure how to explain but I knew right away in my mind he was lying. He kept moving closer into my 'purple circle' of space. He was reaching into his jacket with one hand. So I jumped back a good 2 ft and took off running. No way that guy would have ever been able to catch up to me. I was sprinting. Luckily another man was entering the trail just up ahead. Scary scary and next time I will listen when my heart is yelling something at me, yep you bet.

I know you know this but I just gotta say it - You never have any obligation to give anyone the time of day when you are by yourself out there. Has nothing to do with being nice or unfriendly and has everything to do with survivial. Unless a man on the trail is obviously hurt, the best policy is to ignore him and steer clear.

Thanks Matt. I do know this and why I didn't use my head yesterday I am still trying to figure that out. I usually ignore one and all when I am out alone. I also usually carry a pink pepper spray. Yesterday I didn't. I was so dumb. It has ended up being a good reminder of all the things I usually do to be safe as possible. Now I am on restriction from the river trail by the hubby. Oh dear....
