Leg strengthening in the weights.

36 min elliptical

ran 7 miles on the river trail. Still have issues looking at my watch doing 8:20's on a recovery day. My legs were really tired from yesterday though. I wonder if world class athletes run an 8:15 avg on a recovery day? I wonder if they feel like a loser too ha!

I have learned to love my recovery runs. But it took me over a year to figure out that it is okay to run slow. It sounds like a nice relaxing morning. :)

I'm not world class but I run 8 minute miles all the time and never feel bad about it.

Weldon Johnson (letsrun founder) says that he was doing his recovery runs at 7:30+ pace when he ran 28-flat for 10K.

Camille says she regularly runs 8-9 minute pace, and she pops out about 5 fast marathons per year:

Very, very few athletes can handle running quick every day. Not many of us are like Bernard Lagat.

You are going to have an awesome year. You're working hard - and you need to let your body absorb the workload from the track sessions. Stress, then adapt.

You should see the bright side here.. if 8 - 8:15's are your rec time.. That's freaking Awesome!! and what Jake Said...

You'RE on target!!

Wow such an awesome blog post Jake! That Camille Herron truly is a genius. Thanks so much for linking that.

Yeah, nothing wrong with 8:20 splits whatsoever. Let your body be your guide, even if it is 10 min splits. I think proper rest equals rewarding hard workouts. Can't have both for very long. Either you'll experience burnout, or your race times with suffer. You're on top of it.
