I have five cute kids. And I have some rockin short green racing shorts- I wear them mainly because it embarrasses my wife so much. I like ultimate frisbee, trail running, reading, and cheering for the Denver Broncos!   And I have the absolute best wife in the world.  And I used to run for the now-disbanded national Team Pearl Izumi- Ultra!

Ultimate frisbee. First time in a long time. 6v6, intermittent strong wind. I played well- first 3 throws were bad, but then did fine after that (hit my teammates 4 times in the hands in the endzone they dropped, not my bad). Had 2 great diving scores, 2 blocks. Knee and foot actually felt ok. Hope they do tomorrow, too. My team lost first game 2-5 then won 2-0.

For those who follow such things, the Barkley marathons is going on. Rumor is, after the highest-ever 5 finishers last year, the course is again much harder, with a new 45 min section. It may be years before there's another finisher. I also found out that one of my old running buddies, Carl Laniak, will be the new race director. Pretty cool- he's a chill, nice guy who appreciates the race.

no time for gym- up at 4:30 am, gone before 5 for huge track meet, not home till after 11 pm. Daughter set PR's in 3200m (by 36 sec) and 800m (3 sec). Very huge, competitive meet- 156 teams, and saw some fastest-HS-time in nation performances (really- they were announcing them live). In women 400m hurdle, the top 4 finishers had the 10th, 9th, 2nd, and fastest time nationwide this season.

17 people for frisbee, huge crowd, on sunny, warm but not hot, windy day. A lot of new or less-experienced players combined with the wind made for a rough go of it. My team struggled in the warmup but won 5-3 in the end. I had to leave a couple minutes early to go to autobody shop (my 16 year old was in accident and totaled our 2005 Camry in March. We've got our first heat wave in a few years, close to 100 deg and feels like above that. We still held XC optional summer run, and 3 kids showed up (2 coach's kids, 1 other). Ended with water fight. I actually ran about 2 miles, my first other than frisbee in a while. My knee doesn't like downhills but ok other than that.

Was curious so just looked up blog numbers. Less than 1% of all time FRB users still active. Only 32 of us updated in the past month. Pretty small crew still using this to record workouts. Back in the day, we even had a future Olympian on here. Was there more than just one?

I like the 32 people, as well. And as an old, I don't want to change formats. When someone asks me what year did such and such thing happen, I use this blog more often than not to figure out the answer. If this were to simply vanish, I would just be guessing. This is a place I have come to at least once a day (whether I ran or not) for 12 years. You guys have been here longer than me. So I'm guessing the impact would be greater on you.

I was coaching a lady for marathoning recently, and talked about the importance of record keeping. She was concerned about some bad workouts. I brought up FRB and showed her how many of my speed workouts were aborted early due to feeling blah.

Also nice to read race reports sometimes, too.

I do miss many of the people, though. And when the FRB forum was a thing and I was one of the lead posters there. Ahh, good times.

I don't even run anymore due to knee issues, but I log my biking miles because it's an easy platform and I like to keep up with what the rest of you are doing.

frisbee. we started off 4v4 but then ended up 5v4, the other team gave my team the extra. We took advantage of it and won 5-3. Then we did 3v3, i switched team, and my new team won 2-1.

First XC meet of the year for my team tomorrow. Most our meets are middle-school only, small races. This one is high school and the single biggest race in the state- between 6 races tomorrow, there are almost 4000 runners. My team has about 25 running in the two JV races. Should be fun. I also really enjoy seeing my old runners who are now on high school teams.

My wife got home after 9 days in Utah/Idaho dropping off my oldest at BYU and attending a wedding. It was stressful being a single parent of 4 kids with TONS of activities.

XC race day. Went very well. I love the course- it's a real XC course running singletrack through the woods, along ponds, mowed weeds and grass, plus it crosses a large stream and then finishes .25 miles up a steep hill! One of the best HS teams in the state helped clean up course markings and their runners said they wish they did races like that. I love it but it's a tiring day for me- I think I did over 12 hours of XC stuff, getting to bed at 2 am. Feeling very worn down and a bit sick.

Our team races well- the girls won and are undefeated in the MS races. Boys did their best yet, placing 3rd.

PM- Conference Championship meet for my XC team. Boys did ok, 4th overall (our 2nd place runner dropped out 75% into the race, otherwise would have been 3rd). Girls remained undefeated this season and won the race in dominating fashion- my runners 5 thru 9 would have won. With the boys getting 4th out of 11 teams, it's the first time either team didn't place 1st or 2nd, and also the first time not having an All-Conference (top 7) finisher. Girls had 2 AC.

Girls team are returning runners 2-8 next year. The one we're losing is one of the best in the state, won 16 of the last 18 races (and the only 2 she lost were to a girl she beat 11 times who is also a state 3A HS XC champ).

I'm always sad when XC coaching season ends, I enjoy being around the runners.

First race in 4 years, ran cause GE allowed employees to run for free. First ever public race on the GE trails (which I've run many times and my family comes and walks them with me). This was my first race in 4 years. I have barely run for years, was very sore from frisbee yesterday, and figured I shouldn't run. But I did- my 10 year was afraid of being trampled at the start so I started with her, then she took off but my 14 yo caught me and we ran together for a few miles. Splits were 8:30 (oops- too fast), 9:30, 10-ish. It was long, about 3.85 miles. Finished mid pack. My 10 year old was top under 12 girl and 9th overall female. Fun time, achilles will feel it tomorrow

Monday frisbee. 5v6, except one of my team was a 10 year old who never played before. We were way outclassed with the 2 slowest people and the kid, then our fastest guy went down early so we had 5v5 including the kid. Miraculously, we won 5-2. Then got our butt kicked 0-3.

did a turkey trot fun run at local high school. entry fee is 5 cans of food. I was tasked with running with my 7 month old puppy, who was annoying. did 3 miles.
