Ran the Enterprise 10K today. Woke up not feeling too great, but felt a little better as I warmed up for the race. I really didn't know what to expect since my legs have been sore all week from the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon I did last weekend. Before the race started I talked a little with Mike Schramm and he to had been sore for most of the week. Bill and I warmed up a little before the race and visited with some other guys David Holt was there, along with Logan, and Jose. When the gun went off Jose took off, ran the first mile in about 4:39, but would later be passed by Logan, David, and Cheston Slater. Anyway more about my race. I started out pretty fast also mile 1- 5:03 fast downhill but I felt I was right where I needed to be running with the other guys of similiar ability mile 2- 5:29 (10:33) another good mile and downhill running with Mike and Ryan mile 3- 5:40 (16:13) still moving along and feeling better than I thought I would mile 4- 5:43 (21:56) course starts to flatten out still running with Mike and Ryan, but close enough to see what is happening ahead between Logan, Jose, Cheston, and David mile 5- 5:53 (27:50) at this point Mike and I pick up the pace a little and move ahead of Ryan. Mike and I kept surging back and forth, which I know helped me out quite a bit. mile 6 and the .2 6:58-(34:49) I tried to stay with Mike as long as I could, but with about 600 meters to go he had one last good surge and finished ahead of me by probably 15 or 20 seconds. I took 6th overall and 4th in my age group, missed out on getting a medal, but that was ok, they looked pretty cheap, I was more pleased with my time 34:49 is really fast for me, even if half of the race was a decent downhill. This race and the half marathon last weekend have both been positive experiences and I feel like I am on the right track with my training right now. |
