This morning I woke up feeling pretty sick to my stomach, I knew once I got up I was not going to have that great of race at the Provo Freedom Run 10K. Even though I was feeling pretty sick I still decided just to go run since I had paid for the race, and I was hoping maybe I would start feeling better just getting outside and moving around. Anyway things didn't really get any better. I started the race slower than I wanted to 6:21 for the first mile a little bit of uphill at the beginning, but I still should have got out a little faster. Second mile was pretty much all downhill 5:37, Third mile was 6:11 downhill University Ave stomach really starting to hurt, saw my family at 600 North and thought about just dropping out since I would be close to the car at this point. Well, I didn't drop out and continued to push on 6:35 fourth mile. 6:26 fifth mile and feeling like I was only giving about 75% effort, slowed down quite a bit the last mile 6:39, then ran 1:19 for the .2 Finished with a time of 39:12 and very upset. At the awards they said I took second in my age group, but I figured I was third either way I did get a nice medal, except you had to wait way too long for the awards to be handed out something that upset me even more considering I was feeling very sick at this point. Overall, the race results said I placed 18th, but I thought I counted quite a few more people ahead of me, probably guys that hadn't registered. Anyway, not a real positive race, and it doesn't reflect what kind of shape I am currently in. I really think if I wouldn't have been sick I would have been down in the low 36 min range. Anyway, I will continue training and look forward to the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon in two weeks. Also, I am now wanting to run the Enterprise 10K in a few weeks to see if I can get a decent 10K time. |
