5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: Hill repeats 8 x 1` up a very steep hill, jog down.

PM: easy 4.

Drove up to Phoenix for MRI -- why you ask?  Because my surgeon likes this center better, but he doesn't drive up!  I am ok ...this is my "other" breast.  They are "watching it"

AM: (9.5 miles, 1:22:23).  10 x :45 w/a little over 1` recovery. Great workout, it is much hard than it looks (kind of like a 10 x 200 meter workout with 200 recovery).

AM: 8 miles, it was COLD. Like cold!  Last night we got in about 11PM after battling weather for 3 hours.  Started pouring outside of Phoenix, then it turned to fog so heavy you could barely see, and then it snow at about 6500ft.  We almost slid off the road at one point ... but luckily everyone (especially the trucks) were going pretty slow and we made safe and sound!  Woke up to a nice blanket of snow this morning, and realized I did not pack warm enough running stuff.  My hands took the worst of it (it was about 7F with the wind chill) -- but much much better than 110F ;-)

PM easy 4 before heading to the trivia party!

Our table was full of fun people.  Kellyn Johnston (TeamUSA Arizona athlete) and her husband, and Aaron Braun (super stud) and his wife ... FUN.  I think we came in 4th overall - I bought a lot of raffle tickets and we tried to buy the Fat Tire bike in the auction -- Greg McMillan ended up getting it in the end, I guess we did not want it as badly as he and Tracy did!

Awesome run, I was the first out on the newly fallen snow.  I actually took a chance and ran on some trails.  Luckily the snow was not too deep, though just deep enough to mask rocks and holes, so I took it super easy on the way out.  Then I made it to a forest service road that was much more sun exposed, and it was a little less dangerous -- however, in the two hours I was out quite a few of the sections of road had melted, and thus were deep, and heavy (;-)) mud.

I felt really good, I had run this same route in October, and was not only faster, but just felt much stronger this time.  So happy.

Only bad thing was that when I got home my hands were so cold that I couldn't get my gloves off, I tried to warm them up with some tepid water, and put them near the heater, and as they thawed out it hurt so badly that it brought tears to my eyes.  OUCH.

It was so beautiful out though, well worth the 1/2 hour of discomfort.  I loved being the first live thing on the trail!!

9 miles - 9 x 1` hill repeats -- YIKES these were hard.  I picked a too steep hill -- it was super super steep at the top and I *knew* my behind was going to be sore!!

4 miles easy - I ran with one of my co-workers after work -- we ran some trails in a state park near work.  It was fun, and made the time fly!!

Quick run, off to teach.  Took a very late flight to DC for a meeting after my 2nd class.  Didn't get in to DC until 1AM, did not get to sleep until 3 ... yikes, I am too old for this stuff!!

AM: 9 miles, 10 x :45 w/1:30 recovery.  Nice and flat!  Surprisingly, I felt pretty good for someone with 5 hours of sleep and sitting on a plane for 6 hours!

PM: easy 4.

Took an hour metro ride to visit with some friends up in Bethesda.  I miss them very much, and even though it meant I had to miss a dinner with some of the folks from the meeting I am at, I have decided that life is too short not to visit with my friends whenever I can.  I am reminded by something I read recently that said, "no one ever said on their deathbed, I wish I had worked more".

I will whine a tiny bit and say that the time change here (2 hours a head) is difficult ;-)

Easy 7.  My legs were a little tired today - a matched set to go along with my tired body ;-).

Sat in a meeting for 9 hours, went to dinner, and then went to the Kennedy Center to see the National Symphony Orchestra -- they were so incredible!!  Even though there is no free lunch at this meeting, it does have some perks ;-).

Squeezed in another run -- only one today because the meeting is over at 3, and then I get to run to the airport to sit on a plane ;-).  Beautiful, albeit early (again) run!

Wonderful run!  I can't believe how good this run felt, despite not eating much yesterday (airport food is really horrible - so I did not eat), and not sleeping much.  I ran a hilly run, some on the road, some on the trail, and felt amazingly strong the whole time.  I was happy to weight myself afterward - even though Dean said that was dumb ;-), my dumbself was happy with the numbers!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so very thankful that Dean, and I, and our family, are healthy, and that I am running.

So, I am re-arranging my schedule this week so we can go to some friends house for thanksgiving dinner.  It was pretty much impossible for me to fit in two runs, and get to their house early ... so, I will back-load the mileage (added stress for long run - I will be tired going into it, not always a bad thing).

I was happy to see my time today - my schedule called for 80 mins with the last 20` at 1/2 marathon effort.  I did not feel very good going into this run, I am not sure why, probably late start and poor eating last week.  So, after the run I looked at my watch and saw that the last 2 + a little miles were in 15:30 (my easy run pace for this segment is ~18:50) - so it was pretty close to 7:20 pace with stupendeous hills.  I was pretty happy!  Now I feel even thankier than before!

2:14:33.  Ran down to the trails today -- first time since snake season ;-).  so very happy to be back.  It was a beautiful beautiful beautiful day.  Sunny, not to hot, the mountains were so spectacularly pretty.  Nice nice nice!

The only "not-so-bad" thing was because of all the rains this summer the lower parts of the trail were super sandy and rocky.  But, that is not a complaint, but rather an observation!

I hope you are all doing well!  I have missed you very much.  I will be back more regularly again after next week, when I am back to only working one job!!

Happy trails!

AM: (8.5 miles) hill repeats -- 10 x 1` ... ouch, my bum hurts!

PM: easy 4 ... well, not so easy, it was dark and I stumbled and fell.  I did not break my wrists, but I did cuss a little - well, loudly.  sorry bloggers, mea culpa.

And, unfortunately, I might ... have broken a rib (remember I told you that your ribs get really brittle after radiation?).  I am not sure, I either broke a rib or "re-inflammed" the breast tissue by carrying boxes of books into my new desk ... either way, I am a little sore.

Hope you are doing well!!

PM: easy 4.

Still sore, but maybe probably certainly not a broken rib (thank goodness) - just sore.

Happy Thursday!!
