This was an interesting marathon. I arrived in salt lake weds day afternoon and picked up my packet. I expecting a big marathon Expo. No expo, just a place down stairs to pick up our packets. I have always thought the Deseret News marathon was one of the biggest in the state. To my surprise it is one of the smallest. I arrived at my sisters and called Robin and we talked for 4 hours. (thank goodness my sister had a charger that fit my phone) I had to get up at 2:00 AM to catch the busses that started leaving at 3:15 AM. After arriving The Temps were a little warm but ok. No problem for someone from St. George. Talked to Sasha for a few minutes. Found a spot on the ground and waited until 5:30 start time.
1. 5.34 Sasha and another couple guys took off like rockets. Kenyans and me are just relaxing.
2. 5.36 Last Kenyon starts to pull away. I let him go. Feeling great and relaxed.
3. 5.41 feeling great easy running here. Running with a guy who wants to finish around 3 hours. Having a great conversation.
4 5.59 course is flating out. Hill time baby. Feet are beginning to really hurt. Speed stars have not been this bad before.
My Battery just died on my Garmin. Will give the rest of the splits later. I ended up stopping 4 times to adjust my laces on my shoes. One porta potty which took about 4 minutes.
I think I could have been at least 10 minutes faster if I would not of had the shoes problems. Besides my feet my body felt good. The Gatorade at the stops seemed to make me sick. So I drank water and relied on my Gue Packets to get me through. The ceremonies were terrible. The food provided was not to good. I am grateful however to of ran this marathon. I gained a lot of confidence going into St. George. I am going to switch shoes and run a couple of long runs in them before I use them in the St. George Marathon. I am pretty sore. My feet hurt. My legs tired. But I am excited about my future training getting ready for St. George. |
