5.322.000.000.007.32

Ran 7.32 Miles at an overall easy 6:59 pace in 51:10. Couple at (6:33, 6:45). I probably will have to spend some time working over the weekend as well this week. Very busy today.

Still fighting an ear infection, I'm on 10 day medication.  My daughter won their soccer game last night 2-0 against the top team.  They also play tonight so I will rush there after work at 6pm, and not get dinner again until 8pm.

My faucet hose blew up when we got home from soccer last night and flooded our bath room so I had to take care of that.  That didn't upset me I just laughed it off.  Life is to short to get upset.  My son cried because he thought he did it.

Also my son as a very bad cough and my oldest daughter is playing the soccer games sick.  She has a bad cough and congested.

I also have a major cut-over on September 7th that's all on my shoulders at work. (Migrating all the current emails users at ISU to google). I have a lot on my plate.  Oh ya and there's a marathon Saturday.

Where everything clicked last year, nothing seemed to click right today.  I had major stomach issues at the 9th mile on.  I couldn't speed up or my stomach would kill.  I even ended up going in my shorts on the run.  I dropped my sun glasses at mile 7 wasting time. 2:43:3ish something.  For my last marathon for a while or forever I don't think I did too bad. I had to have the determination to push forward when my stomach hurt so bad.  It hurt so bad at one point I was crying while running, and that's tough on the ego.

Jeff Shadley did awesome at 2:37:22 and should have broke my course record I thought.   The weather was perfect to do so.  Jeff's a wonderful man and friend.  He cares how others are doing, and has such a big heart.  Congratulations to the winner of the Pocatello Marathon 2009 "JEFF SHADLEY"!

START:

My stomach wasn't feeling the greatest from the start, and I've been fighting an ear infection which I still had.  I've been on medication for the ear infection since last Thursday.  I wasn't about to tell anyone (other runners on the hill), because I  felt this information was between me and God and I would work through it fine.  I really just didn't feel the best, and my heart wasn't really into it because of that reason and others.  That probably didn't help from the start, even though my training runs were good all week.  I've had so much to do at work with deadlines that I wasn't even thinking about the race, and didn't have a real concrete strategy.  My thoughts were elsewhere and clearly not on running.  This just didn't seem the week to run.  The night before I was worried, and just wanted to get the race over with and done.  I really didn't have a time goal either (Jeff really looked focused and ready).

My wife and I got up at 4am and we did our daily devotion and read some scriptures.  Then I drank some coffee and had half a banana and granola bar, and some pieces of a bagel.  Then my wife drove me to the Bus pickup at the Red Lion Hotel entrance.

I got up the Mountain at 5:30 at went to the bathroom (the race starts on Crestview Rd).  Then I met Jeff, and his friend has they were stretching and getting ready.  I put some Myo Med on and did a little warm up.  I took another potty break at the top of the road in my secret place.

MILE SPLITS:

Mile 1; 5:34 (good start)

Mile 2; 5:54 (slowed a bit not to go too fast on the downhill with Jeff)

Mile 3: 5:46 (Good mile just giving what the downhill gave Jeff and I)

Mile 4; 5:55 (Still running, but my ear started bothering me a bit and I was starting to breathe harder).

Mile 5 5:40 (Still the breathing felt weird but didn't affect the mile).

Mile 6: 5:45 (Jeff was starting to pull away, and I told him to not let me hold him back or it could have been before this point.  I don't remember).

Mile 7: 5:59 (Jeff was gone, and I dropped my sunglasses and had to go back and pick them up.) (Guy at aid station said Jeff's going after your record better caught up.  I yelled back I don't care let it be broken. This really made me mad, because almost all the aids stations were saying this and even people driving.  Sometimes it's not fun running in your hometown).

Mile 8: 6:01  (Stomach was starting something here but I was okay).

Mile 9: 6:04  (Stomach started to kill and really knock me like a punch)  (took a gel).

Mile 10: 5:45 (Was trying to fight the pain of the belly, and this mile should have been faster).

Mile 11: 5:56  (Backed-off  belly was killing me almost putting me in tears).

Mile 12; 5:48  (Went a little in my shorts for some relief).

Mile 13: 6:27 (Said hi to Barry on the blog he was running the half).

Mile 14: 6:09 (Belly was hurting so bad I started crying, but kept running. Very hard to admit put I want to know that I made it, and can always look back at this moment).

Mile 15: 6:23  (started singing "praise God, I love you Jesus).  (took a gel)

Mile 16: 6:40  (hurting going up the hill, but legs were fine.  The belly just won't help).

Mile 17: 6:46 (Ditto).

Mile 18; 6:36 (Ditto).

Mile 19: 6:31 (Hurting going downhill).

Mile 20: 6:37 (Ditto).

Mile 21: 6:40 (Just doing whatever).

Mile 22: 7:05 (Going up Century hill.  Again legs were good).  (Sports Beans).

Mile 23: 6:40 (Went in my shorts again... started feeling better).

Mile 24: 6:28  (Feeling better.  Thinking maybe I should have just stopped and took a dump)

Mile 25: 6:19 (Feeling good, legs felt fresh)

Mile 26: 6:12 (Again feeling good).

I left home pretty much soon after, because my belly was hurting after I stopped.  All in All a good race for my heart not being in it and the Stomach problems.  The weather was awesome.  A very good day for the record of the course to be broken.  Congratulations to my buddy Jeff Shadley for shining his talent today.  A lot more talent than I have.

I'm still not feeling the best today and the stomach still has issues.  I think I've caught some type of illness.  What a week to get sick before a marathon.

Guys please give Jeff a lot of praise he deserves it.  He's such a good intelligent person and a great friend.

Ran 7.2 miles at an overall 7:12 pace in 52:43 Minutes.  Legs are not sore at all, but again that wasn't my problem on marathon day it was my stomach, ear  and heart.  The legs were into it just not everything else.  My legs felt really fresh after the marathon.  When your motivation factor is bad it doesn't matter if you've peaked or your fitness is in the top of the line shape, if your hearts not in it your not going to do well.

Worked late last night.  I got a call from my sons tee-ball practice that our Mysql Database was not allowing connections.  I had to go back to work to fix the problem.  I'm so glad I'm not running anymore marathons this year.  If I would have been motivated and the way my legs feel after last Saturday I really should have been able to run under a 2:35.  Motivation and Heart and Stomach and Ear Infection provided the outcome.  Really it was meant to be.  But life catches up to you and you have to change .

Today, 10.13 miles at an overall 7:09 pace in 1:12.  My legs were fresh like before a marathon.  I just ran by feel and didn't care what the pace was.

Ran the Satterfield loop with Barry this morning with the temperature at 43 degrees. Both Barry and I are recovering well from the Half Marathon he ran, and the Marathon I ran. Barry really looks good. We just wanted to keep the run simple and not push which is ridiculous anyway since we raced last week. Although I pushed harder the last two miles to get back home because of a meeting at work. I ran the last mile at 6:12.

Totals 10.4 miles at an overall 7:06 pace in 1:13.  Blogging days are getting shorter and shorter.

Also my Grandpa was in the emergency room as well yesterday and I had to pick him up at 4:30pm yesterday where he couldn't breath do to Blood Pressure Medication. My mom has to have surgery next week to remove a tumor on her thryroid.

I have to travel to Idaho Falls today at 11:30am for a soccer game at 1pm at the Old Butte Rd. Soccer complex. Busy Busy.

Update from my family:

Father-in-law: He's doing okay with his appendictis surgery recovery. Other than he couldn't breath on his own coming out of it because of the years of smoking. He had to take an oxygen tank home. He definitely knows now the smoking has to stop. It almost killed him because they had to put him on a ventilator to keep him breathing.

Grandpa: He still not doing the best. They can't figure out why he keeps coughing so bad. They took him off one Blood Pressure medication. It will take a week to see if that's the issue.

Mom: She goes into surgery at 11am this morning, and I hope everything goes okay.

Ran 9.11 miles at an overall 7:01 pace in 1:04. Very windy 5 miles at first. Did the last mile in 6:26.

Lunch:

Started from the daycare on my lunch hour and ran on Garret Way,  Highway 30, Hawthorne, Mckinley Ave, then back to the daycare.  Did one fast mile at  6:16.  The temperature was in the 80's.  Sort of easy run with pickups.

Finally caught up on my runs in the blog.  Been too busy with life to really spend time on hear anymore.  I will still try and keep up, but I don't know.

The day started out good running with Barry down Pocatello Creek Rd.  I ran 11.2 miles at a 6:44 pace in 1:14.  It felt good even though I was tired from all the work hours with the Google project.

Then later that day my daughter had a soccer  game and got kicked really, really, really, hard in the shin by the opposing team's girl's foot.  When my daughter was going down she heard a snap.  I rushed over on the field and  she was in pain and she said her leg made a snapping noise and she couldn't move it at all.  I immediately took her to the truck and rushed her to the hospital.  After 3 hours including x-rays at the hospital she completely broke her tibula.  We will have to have it in a cast in 3 days when the swelling goes down, but she will have to stay off of it for 6 weeks.  If the tibula bone moves at all during the healing she will have to have surgery done, and a rod will have to be put in.  We have to be careful and make sure she does not put weight on it.  She will have to use the crutches like a pro.  Right now they put her in a splint until the swelling goes down.

What's sad is she had a XC tournament on Friday for 8th grade and she finished in 8th place out of 102 runner for the 2 mile run.  The city race is next week and of course she will have to miss it.  She was actually starting to like XC more than Soccer.  She broke my heart when she cried and said " Dad I can't do XC or soccer anymore this year".   I wanted to cry but I was strong for her.

Anyway, I've been to the emergency room the last three weekends and during the week.  First with my mom, then grandpa then grandma, then father-in-law and finally my daughter.  Wow what a month.

Day off.  Helping my daughter out all day with her Broken Tibia bone.  She was in pain most of the night and had a hard time sleeping.

Had to get up early so my wife could be with my daughter until I got back from my run to take care of the broken leg.  Hopefully she will get a cast tomorrow.

I will be home with her all day today.  Running not important right now just my daughter.  I feel bad to run knowing she can't right now.

Ran 5.51 miles at an overall 6:41 pace in 36:53 minutes.  Last two (6:27, 5:59)/

Ran before my wife left for work so that I could be with my daughter again today.  We go to the doctor to either get a cast or whatever the x-rays shows that we need to do.  If the bone hasn't moved after the swelling than she will get a cast put on.

6.42 miles in 6:58 pace in 44:46 minutes.  Last one at 6:20p.   It's actually been good for me not to run as much.  My eating still isn't right as it is.

Hiline loop in the rain.  Did one mile 6:15.  Felt good today.  10.21 miles.  Staying home with my daughter with her broken Tibia.  She's getting better on the crutches.  Doctor says she'll be in the cast for 10 to 12 weeks.  I think it will be more like 6 to 8 weeks.
