I ran the Blacksmith Fork Canyon 15k today, my goal was to try and keep Josh Steffen in my sites and see if I had enough to strike at the end. My goal was to run a 5:35 Average and I met that goal. The keeping up with Josh was not acheived!  He is a freekin' amazing runner.  He has come a long way in a short time.  He ended up in second behind I think his name is Lane or something like that.  Carson Cambell was up there also and was a 1/4 mile ahead of me most the way.  I got a PR today in the 15k and I had Cody Draper to thank for it.  He came up the canyon on his bike and assisted me with some water and encouragement as I ran.  I was about 12th overall at the 3 mile mark and chewed my way slowly to 6th place from alot of high school kids dropping there times after 3 or 4 miles.   When I  overtook the 6th place it was the hardest.  I dont know who the runner was but he had me up the hill at the end and was putting distance on me and then stopped and puked!  I caught him and cody kept an eye on him while I had 2 miles to go.  It was a rough 2 miles knowing he had some strength left and he chewed up my gap of 200 feet to a few seconds.  I had a half a mile to go and I pushed as hard as I could and kept him from striking distance and finished in 51:57! YES! Thanks Cody! although I felt like jumping on your bike in a few spots.  Just let me know when you want me to return the favor!  Ill help you PR anytime!  Congrats to Josh and His Wife Meagan who won for the Women!  Awesome. Now get yourself on this Blog!  I know your reading this!

Great race man. Never heard of a 15k but you dominated it, good job.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jul 04, 2008 at 19:40:22

What did Josh get? I was expecting a low 49.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jul 04, 2008 at 19:48:29

Just answered my own question. Results are at http://www.milliseconds.com/ResultsDisplay.php

49:21. Note that you were actually 5th - one guy was in a wheelchair.

Walter nice to meet you this morning. You ran great. There were some fast guys out there today. Go Huskies !

From Jon on Sat, Jul 05, 2008 at 10:52:02

Nice job, Walter. That's a good time on the course! Why don't you move up to Logan so you can run it all the time ;)

Got some print, you "marathon veteran".

Nice run and a great time and PR too boot!

From Walter on Sun, Jul 06, 2008 at 22:57:51

Hayden, I ran this race bace in 2003 for the first time since High School and my time was 1:00:59 and I took 20th overall.

Sasha--Wow, I just gained a spot!

Dave S-- It was good to get to know you and see you in person! Keep up the good work buddy! I may be up for the TOU half.

Jon--Wow, A marathon Veteran huh? Im falbergasted. I dont think im worthy of that statement! They should have said and old dude trying to prove himself with the young ones! lol Man I should tell you my first mile was a 5:10 mile and I was about 20th overall at that point! Those high school kids were dropping like flies and I reeled them all in. I barely beat the last one by 10 seconds thanks to the hill making him puke and stopping him long enough for me to skinny by him!

Shadster--Thanks, as Cody put it, I had to redeem myself for running slower at wasatch back. He was a great help, now I have to pay him back on a race. It was nice to get a drink when I wanted it and not have to wait for a station.

From Cody on Sun, Jul 06, 2008 at 23:11:44

Walter-

A race well run! Very well paced and impressive. It sure was fun coasting down the hill and not having to actually kill myself to keep up with you. I shouldn't get as much credit as you gave though. All I did was splash some water on you and insult/yell/annoy/urge/lie/threaten whatever I could think of to get you to run faster. You did all the work. Well done!

From Walter on Sun, Jul 06, 2008 at 23:17:38

Thanks Cody! I know I shouldve ran that hill a little harder but maybe i would have puked with the pukey boy.

From Superfly on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 10:50:57

If your not puking your not trying hard enough! That is my motto anyways.

Good job on the PR. You've been running good all year and have had PR's coming. Keep up the good work and there are even more to come.

From Jody on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 16:35:07

Great job! Very nice PR!!

From MichelleL on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 17:26:55

Great job Walter! Way to be tough. Having a pacer is sooo helpful. I wish I could have one for every race.

From Walter on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 17:44:38

Clyde--I just about hurled when I passed the young kid that puked on mile 7. My gag reflex is so weak!

Jody--I had to show you up! jk when you feel good, then push it right?

MichelleL--Thanks, It was nice to have Cody be a coach. Next time you want to pr just give him a message and maybe a little money too. I have a feeling Im going to be doing some concrete work for him for that!
