Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

4 on the trails. Yesterday's trip to Lead Foot City®, The Place for All Things Automotive.® was a step in the wrong direction, training-wise. And I'm feeling the bad diet today. Totally worth it though.

PM: surprise 4 more miles on the trails. Brutal heat.

5 on thetrails. Then I saw my dad out for a walk, and I walked with him for a bit, then ran home. Out on the trails, I ran into a friend of mine, that told me he saw my kid acting up, doing stupid teenage stuff. It's a small town. It was a smaller town for me to grow up in, so news got back to my folks very fast. But now it's a small town with video cameras everywhere, that makes impulsive teenage decisions very hard to bounce back from. So, I have to have a talk with my kid when he gets home from school that I'm not looking forward to.

4 on the trails. Yesterday's talk went well. Before you have kids, you think "My kid will never.... ", like you have some control, ultimately. You have influence, but someday they are going to leave, and you've got to hope they make smart decisions. You really don't have that much control. They are going to do what they are going to do. And if they are teenage boys, it's going to be stupid.

I don't mean to be so cryptic. Word got back to me that my kid was doing burnouts in the McDonald's parking lot. Stupid. For a truck we bought a month ago. Stupider. At the McDonalds where he works. Are-you-kidding-me Stupid. On tires we just got for close to $1,000. Now that's just insultingly Stupid.

How do you start a conversation like that?
