Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

6 am start. 2 miles. Then home field advantage. Then 12.9 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail to Venice avenue and back. Something different today. No camelbak. I stopped and got water at the boat ramp / train station / bus station . I really missed the water in the last couple of miles.

Big anniversary party tonight after home football games. Beach party tomorrow, if there is no red tide. I think we'll be okay.

10.2 miles. Hood route to colonia ave and back. It is amazing what role emotions play on athletic performance. I am so pleased at how the party went last night, and how well my sons behaved, that I ran today with a big smile and beat the 8 minute man with ease.

10.2 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail to colonia and back. 5:40 am start. Usually, when a hurricane hits the other side of the state, all of the humidity is sucked up by the storm, and we have uncommonly dry conditions. So I was a bit stoked for this run. Things are not dry. 80 deg., 93% hum.,77 d.p., just like any other day.

3.5 miles. Hood route. Hot and humid. But breezy today. Away game in Immokalee tomorrow.

7 pm. 4.5 miles with Johnny on his bike on the legacy trail. More wind than i expected. We had to laugh at occasionally getting stood up by the wind along the intercoastal waterway. It was tough running / biking.

16.25 miles. Hood route to Legacy Trail to Circus Bridge and back. Really smooth run. Last mile in 7:27. Red skies over Roberts Bay this morning. I got new shoes (Nike) last night. I have been running in very cheap Asics since the Sports Authority Going out of Business sale. So, about @ 3 miles in, I'm thinking "Wow this is going realy well." and immediately after, "How long have I been running in flat shoes?, and How much damage have I done to myself in that time?" And then the miles clicked off... 

In non-running, proud dad news- Boy # 2 recovered a fumble at last Saturday's home football game, attended by a bunch of family in town for my parents' anniversary party. That was a pretty cool moment. This weekend in Imokkalee (sp), He recovered another fumble on the opponent's 6 yard line. His team scored the only touchdown of the game on the next play. I asked him why he didn't pick up the ball and walk into the end zone and score himself. He said "It's not my job to score touchdowns. That's somebody else's job" Um, okay. But I think Edgerrin James (pride of Imokkalee) would disagree.

20.75 magical miles with Mullet, Manatees, and a moon set over the gulf. 5:15 am start. 1st half 1:31:04 (8:47 pace). 2nd half 1:28:21 (8:31 pace). Overall 2:59:25 (8:39 pace). If you have ever read my blog before, you know how rare a negative split over any distance is for me, so this is cause for celebration around here. 3 weeks to race day, and although I am feeling fit enough to race, and put out a good effort, the complete lack of speedy stuff in my training has me a bit nervous.

In other news, some friends of ours are out of town for 5 days, so we have inherited 2 additional sons until tuesday. 4 boys is like 2 boys, only louder. These guys play soccer. Everyone has a game this morning, and no one is on the same team.

5.5 miles. Hood route. The boys had their last practices last night. This weekend, I've got a kid with a game on Saturday, and a kid with a game on Sunday. Borh games are over an hour from here. I have no idea when i can run. I wasn't going to knock out anything huge, mileage -wise. It's just the principle of the whole thing.

It occurred to me this morning rhat i have been trying to run this race since 2014.

10.2 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail to colonia and back. Started at halftime of WLOCP. Big morning in Cape Coral. Tommys team got beat in Cape Coral for their playoff game today. I was minimum play counting dad. Not a fun job. I was full of concession food when i started this run. Nice. After 7 miles, it didn't feel that bad. 81 degrees.
