Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

7.5 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail and back. 6 am start . Lots more debris to jump and move off the sidewalks. I had two separate storms while running. When it wasn't raining, i had hot breeze. Man, I hate the hot breeze. There is no joy there.

7:30 pm. I did the same thing all over again. much faster the secomd time. Somebody cleaned up the sidewalks..

12.9 miles. Hood route to Legacy Trail to Venice Avenue and back. 5:45 am start. Last 2 @ 7:45 pace. This one was tough. All of the miles I had to grit my teeth and fight through. I was more pruned at the end of this run than I can remember. Also, I had a couple of stray dogs take a run at me barking.

Yesterday, both boys teams were destroyed in Cape Coral. But my guys played well, I think. So after spending yesterday yelling in the sun, I did some yard work, went swimming, and watched the gators. All of that, I'm sure had an effect on my running today.

I do have some good news. 185.5 pounds. I'm now below Sugarloaf weight. Well, that took longer than expected!

7.5 miles. Hood route to Legacy trail and back. 8:25 pace. Easy cruising. It didn't feel like Autumn this morning, but there was a fragrance of autumn, that I can't explain. Also, that dude from a couple of months back, that was pruning his hedges with a machete pre-dawn. Remember him? Well, he was up this morning, lurking in the shadows, he clapped and yelled good morning at me when i ran by him at 5:45. Well, I guess that's better than swinging a machete in the dark.

After a while of crossing streets in the dark, you start to only look for headlights. If you don't see headlights, you go. Which is fine until a driver is on the road without headlights. I came really close to getting flattened this morning. And i could be really mad at the driver of the truck that nearly got me. But I'm mostly mad at myself for losing that cautious edge, and not double checking for cars. I'm still a bit freaked out.

Let's be careful out there, people.

6:30 pm: slow guy at the track. 1.5 up. 1200 @ 4:56. 400 easy. 1200 @ 5:00. 400 easy. 800 @ 3:24 (failed 1200). 400 easy. (4) x 100 @<17 with Johnny. 1.5 down. Then threw the frisbee with boy #2. I wanted 6-7 1200s, but I didn't have the juice. I knew it was going to be bad, but I'm glad I went through with it. I needed something other than "easy" running.

Although i felt fairly beat up for the majority of this run ( due to old age, overweight, inconsistent training, yesterday's away games, etc.), I had a strange moment of gratitude out there, that in spite of all of that stuff, i am still capable of doing this.

5.5 miles. Hood route. 6am start. Run started in the rain. I took yesterday off because my right quad felt not good. I don't think I've ever been injured there before.

Anyhow, I knew my mileage was going to take a hit this week, because... This Saturday is my parents' 50th Anniversary! 50 years! What do you talk about after 50 years? You would think you've already said everything! SOOOO, Big party. Aunts and uncles and cousins coming in from out of state! Pandemonium! Well, between work and football and party coordination stuff, I knew this week was going to be a let down on mileage, but fantastic otherwise.
