Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

10.5 miles on the legacy trail at 2 pm. After cutting grass at my house and my dad's house! At the start it was 94, with a heat index of 104. at about 6 miles deep it rained for about 30 seconds. Then the path instantly turned to steam. Within a half mile, all of the moisture on the asphalt trail was gone. I really struggled, and I expected to.

Weird find while running - just south of Colonia, on the side of the trail, there was a neatly stacked, 1 foot thick pile of playboy magazines. Trying to figure out that backstory took my mind off of things for about a mile.

7.75 miles. Hood route to Legacy Trail over SWOM bridge and back. 6:30 am start. After yesterday's huge effort, today felt like I was running downhill. Yes high temps and humidity, and I still came home soaked. Everything felt really smooth, though. Song of the run: AJR - Sober Up.

I am "barely" sick. So no running.

I think the rule is - If you don't have a fever, if you don't have a broken bone, or if you are not in jeopardy of involuntary discharges, you should be running. 

I have the sniffles, and a sore throat. I should be running.

3.5 miles. 6 am start. Well, I got out and did something. It's gross outside. As I'm typing this, it's 9:45. The Mission Valley (Venice) weather station lists 88 degrees, 83% humidity, 82 dew point, and feels like 109. I'm surre it wasn't that bad at 6 am, but it's still nasty.

I devoted some time this morning to think about how people survived here before air conditioning.

Also, what if we invented the world's largest dehumidifier, and stuck it in the middle of town? We could then use that water gain to re-charge the aquifer, so that Zephyrhills could suck it out again and sell it across the country. I am altering the state's water cycle, so I may sweat less.

5.5 miles. Hood route. 6 am start. For some reason, i ran faster than usual. The fog over the orange groves was fragrant and awesome. A half mile later the goat farm was also fragrant, just not awesome. Then the Venice invitational, where Venice JV finished 2nd,and Thomas was runner 5.then a big day of yard work and pressure washing. Then the gators won. Then sleep.

6 pm. rainy hill / bridge sprints with Thomas. 0.5 up. (10) x 0.15 sprints up the north bridge. jog down. 0.5 down. Rained hard for the first half, then drizzled for the second half. Then to the beach, where we just missed sunset, but the afterglow was vibrant.

Friend/Neighbor/Crossfit/Spartan race/Tri guy was just finishing up his run before I started and talked to me for a sec. Usually, this means I'm going to get a sales pitch for Crossfit/Spartan race/Tri, but not today. We talked mostly about my dad. (We have a meeting at the hospital today. Pop will be released on Saturday.) Also, he said that he just finished 8 miles, at something less than 8 minute pace. Dang. It's been a while since I could say that. I'm like 9 years older than this dude, but still. I have a reputation in the neighborhood. I'm not ready to give up my "running guy" place in society yet. I have a good start to this week, and I have to keep it going.

7.5 miles. hood route to legacy trail and back. 5:40 am start. I tried to book it at the end to catch Tommy at his bus stop, but I saw him get on the bus about 100 yards away. I was moving pretty good for that last mile to try to make that happen. So close.
