* = These 5 races were run at 67.9 seconds per pound. If I want a PR, I need to weigh less than 170 pounds. Short-Term Running Goals: 2024 GOALS:
to not get fat Long-Term Running Goals: Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states. Personal: I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.
I started running because someone dared me to.
I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

| 3.5 miles on the trails. 8 am start. My hip is still hurting. Then to the south jetty. There were tons of dolphins and manatees out today. Then boy #1 sang goodbye yellow brick road at a show. I think he did well. Then we hung out with some friends we haven't seen in a while for a bit. This got me to thinking, this is the second time in two weeks that someone has given me a book to read after I've told them that I don't read much. It's crazy. They asked me do you like to read? And I say No, not really. And then they say you should read this, and give me a book. Look, I just wanted to hang out. Why are you giving me homework? |

| 5.5 miles. 6 am start. 83 degrees. 86% hum. 78 dew point. That's what you call dishwasher miles. These are probably going to be my running conditions for the next four to six months. |

| 1.5 miles. 7 am start. Then home field advantage bathroom stop. Then 7.75 miles. Hood route to legacy trail over the SWOM bridge and back, with a 7:24 mile thrown in the middle for funsies. I wanted a faster mile, but this was faster than I expected. 88 degrees. 71% humidity. 77 d.P. my shoes were making squishy noises for the last 2 miles. |

| 6:30 am start. I don't know what the exact weather conditions were. But imagine Florida in late June. I came home soaked, as if I went swimming, again. Anyhow, 0.75 up, 2 mile tempo in 14:39 (7:20, 7:19), 4.75 down. This is way faster than I expected again.
So, if I’m going to run Nebraska, I have about 100 days to get ready. I’m kind of on the fence. But these last 2 runs have shown me I have a little bit of speed in there. I’m feeling like I’m a 3:30ish marathon guy right now. I’m trying to be a bit more realistic about my abilities. I’m trying not to train like I am a 3:15 guy, because that guy’s been gone for a while. I might get that back. But let’s get back to 3:30 first. So, when I do these faster miles on my runs, I’m shooting for 8’s. 7:20’s is way too fast. I’m sure this will all sort itself out by the time I’m doing longer tempos.

| Track Thursday. 6 am start. 2.25 up. 800 in 3:16. 400 AR. 800 in 3:14. 2 down. Meh, I've been faster, but this is right in line with where I think I am. And this was not redlining. So, all positives, I think.

| 7.75 miles. Hood route to legacy trail over the SWOM bridge and back. We had a ton of rain last night. So it was a bit cooler outside. On the other hand, I had to eat many bugs this morning. I wonder if I will ever get used to bugs pinging off my face and chest while running. I still freak out and have to brush them away, like, every time. |

| 16.25 miles. Hood route to legacy trail to circus bridge and back. 6:15 am start. 84 degrees. 81% hum. 77 dew point. Yucko. 13.5 up? 2 in 16:07 (8:25, 7:42). .75 down. I was mentally out of it by the time I was supposed to kick. You can kind of tell I forgot I was supposed to be running fast, at least for that first mile. |
