Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I wasn't that motivated to run in the rain this morning, so I headed to the gym.  Hot, stuffy and humid.  But I did it and it is over.

Lower legs did better today, but I'm not celebrating yet.  Lots of ice and stretching.

I really wanted to run today, but didn't want to push the miles or pace.  Just loosen things up a bit.  It was a beautiful morning...nice sunrise.

Lower leg feels ok..I iced after the run.  We'll see.

Garmin was dead, so I just ran!  The weather was beautiful...hooray for no rain!  I felt fairly good, but just slow.  I had no speed whatsoever.  It is time to get to the track.

Lower legs are feeling pretty good.  I'm going to have to maintain whatever it is I'm doing.

I don't even know my time.  My son wanted to ride his bike with me, so we went an easy 2 miles.  He did a great job on his bike.  He was alittle nervous to ride on "the road" and I had to keep reminding him to look forward and not back at me.

It was super fun to have him come and listen to him sing various songs.  I use to ride my bike with my mom when she would run.  I LOVED to ride with her.  We need to work on upping his mileage so we can go further together.

This was one of the best runs I've had in a long time!  I met Rachel, Smooth, and Karen at the Draper City Park for a 12 mile run.  Last time I ran this trail, I had a horrible run.  It was windy and I felt like crud.

Not today, the sun was shining and I felt much stronger.  I knew that it was an up and down course.  I was able to hold a conversation the whole way, so I wasn't running that hard.

At mile 11, Smooth yelled "let's finish strong", so I took off.  I thought everyone was coming right behind me and when I realized they weren't I kept going (I was probably breaking some sort of "running with a group" rule).  I was surprised how much  speed I had left and how good I felt.

I feel so much better about running the UVHM next weekend.

I learned so much about running from those sweet ladies....I was lucky to spend the early morning with them!  Thanks gals!

Still waiting to see how my lower leg feels.
