Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Oh it is so hard to get up on Monday mornings.  I drag all day long...then it snowed.  Kinda depressing.

I felt really great on my run today...even though it was slow.  I am always slow on the TM.  Oh well.  No ankle or knee aches.  Life is good!

I slept in this morning and it was heavenly!  Headed to the gym when my hubby got home.  They had "We are Marshall" in the cardio cinema and enjoyed a good movie for 54 minutes.  I LOVE football movies.  They are so motivating.

I biked for 15 minutes after....I suck at biking.  I had some dental work done today, so every time I would take a drink of my COLD water, my nerves in my mouth would go crazy.

Have you ever been so dog-tired that you can hardly drive home from the gym?  That is me today! I had to get up even earlier (4:45am), so I could get my 6 miles in before hubby had to leave for work.

The back to back workouts WEAR ME OUT!  So it was a slow go on the TM.  I watched some dumb show on the cooking channel (it was like an amazing race).  I stopped every 2 miles to stretch.  My right shins started bugging me today.

I didn't get much of a nap after the gym (the kids woke up really early because it was "backwards" day at school and they were excited).  Then I had to go on a preschool field trip to Cabelas.  I could hardly stay awake.

30 minutes of yoga, icing and ankle exercises.....NOW I am going to take a nap.  A BIG BIG BIG nap.

My goal was to go as slow as I could.  My body felt so "rickety" all day.  Weird things ached...places that have never hurt before.  My right glute/lower back was on FIRE.  I may have slept on it weird.  I don't know how you all run a gazillion miles a week.  I feel like I am falling apart!

But my slow slow slow run was just what I needed.  Most of the achiness went away.  Plus the weather was beautiful.....a shorts and t-shirt kind of a day.

Lots of stretching throughout the day and ice after the run.

Rest day tomorrow...Rex Lee 10K on Saturday.  The first race of the year.  My goal is just to finish.  I need to have a starting point for racing goals.

AP (8:26)

I took my two big girls to see Little Women last night at the Salt Lake Children's Theater.  It was a great distraction from thinking about the race.

I've been kinda nervous about this 10K...but I don't know why.  I know I'm starting "all over" having taken a year off from my stress fracture and  I've really only been training since the end of December, but I think I have magical powers that make me race like a speedster.  I know it is going to take me a lot longer than 3 months to get faster!

This was my hubby's first 10K and I was really excited for him.  There weren't a lot of runners, but enough to feel like a race. I warmed up 1 mile.

1-8:55 Lots of trying to get around people and find my groove

2-9:07 LONG, slow uphill.  I passed a lot of people, but it was definitely a hard mile. A long mile.

3-7:53 Start of the long downhill.  My lower back started to hurt....not sure if this was because of the downhill.  But I thought to myself, go fast while the fast is going.  I had some older guy come from behind me.  We stayed together for a lot of this mile.  He was my "go-to" guy.  He would pull ahead and I would follow.  Thanks guy!

4-8:03 Still down hill and feeling good, but lower back still sore.

5-8:23 The course started to flatten out here.  It is hard when you've been flying down hill and then it takes "effort" to keep up the speed.  I was starting to get to that "puke" zone.  I chilled out a tad and was hoping it would go away.  Kinda.

6-8:26 I just kept saying to myself, "Just don't puke! Just don't puke! Just don't puke".  Once I got onto the track, I saw some of our friends and family, gave them the pump fist and finished strong.  The stinky part of the end of the race was NO WATER - you had to walk to the other end of the track.  I wanted to run Tim in, but I just saw him enter the track. So I cheered obnoxiously for him.  He did a fantastic job (54 minutes).  This is his first 10K and he's only run a few 6 mile runs.  Hooray for him.

.2-1:13

I cooled down 1.5 miles.  Perfect weather for the race...shorts and t-shirt.  Lots of people had on tights, hats, gloves....I was just sweating looking at them!

So overall, I feel like I ran a "decent" race.  An 8:26 average is about the fastest that I've done on a long run....so that seems right.  But I'm ready to be faster. I'm ready for a nap!

**I just saw the posted results - HAH! I got 3rd in my age group!  Hot dog!
