Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

1050 M swim

P90X - ab ripper

I just got my bands and weights do to the chest and back tonight (I did my assisted pull ups and dips at the gym).

I struggled a lot last week mentally - I'm ready to rock, but there is no running rockin' to be had.  Hence the swim today - I had to do something before I went crazy. Plus, I had some smarty pants make a rude comment about my not running.  Lots of lessons to learn!

My sweet hubby keeps reminding that I need to be patient and take into consideration that I've only been in a boot for 2 weeks.  I sure am jealous of all you running out there :)

I am sick of patience! And I'm sure you are too. I believe you have proved yourself patient enough. Here's to rockin' soon!

Aunti-I am sick of it! I could scream! I was suppose to be running full force by mid March. Soon enough - soon enough! Hope you are back soon too!

I guess we will survive, eh? Don't know what I'd do without my bike right now. Funny, because I bought the bike 5 years ago when my foot had a stress fracture and I couldn't run!

I'm SO sorry!! I seriously remember that feeling - passing people running on the road and saying out loud "you don't know what a blessing it is for you to be able to run!!" and feeling that jealousy as you read race reports and know that you want to be out, but you CAN'T!! UGGGHH! I feel SO much for you, I'm sorry!

I am glad that you are keeping up with the swimming though. It really is a GREAT thing to do to keep up with the cardio and strength. You'll be back full force soon, I hate to say it, but patience :(

I use the bands for P90X, too.

I hope I'm not the jerk that made the comment to you. Sounds like something I might do. (Checking your Favorites List...Yes! I'm still on there. Yes! I'm still the only guy.)

Burty-your still a favorite! The dumb comment came from a running friend that I ran with last summer.

Do you like using the bands? Do they work you as good as weights?

Rad - You sang my sad song for me. Thanks for being understanding!

That meanie!

I don't know if weights are better than the bands, but they work well. The trick is to do an isometric hold when you reach the end. Probably just works the muscles differently.

I will stick up for you Toby!

When my sister tells me stories about people being rude to her at church, I say...I'm coming to your church next week and I'm going to say This and This and This..and she get's a really horrified look on her face...(because she knows I just might) ...haha. I'm really protective like a guard dog.

Injuries! I haven't had one as bad as yours, but I understand somewhat what you might be feeling. Take Care Toby! :)
