Since I found out about my stress reactions, I wasn't going to do this race. The main reason I did it was because Telos wouldn't rollover my registration or give me a refund and I didn't want to throw $50 out the window. Since I didn't train at all this past week and my hubby was doing the race, I went into it was a "this is going to be fun" attitude. We picked up our babysitter at 7:00am and headed to the Orem Rec Center. We got our race numbers, timing chips, and body marking. Because we got there so early, we got front row in the transition area. The man and woman on either side won. We won't be doing that again...we aren't in that crowd yet! We both forgot water bottles, so Tim ran to Albertsons and got some. It would have been a long bike and run without water.
The weather was perfect! I quickly lost Tim during the run. I thought he was right behind me. But I had my eyes on the girl in the pink shirt. She had a "30" on her calf and was in my age group. She got a little ahead of me during the run, but I transitioned faster than her, so we got on the bike at the same time. We battled back and forth up and down the hills. But she got me on the last hill.....my legs were on FIRE! Next time pink-shirt girl! One thing about this race, I felt like I could never catch my breath. Maybe it was because I hadn't run all week. But I was sucking wind!
I really HATE swimming. When I jumped in the pool, I was still breathing hard from the bike and my legs felt like lead. I kept thinking to myself, "6 more laps...5 more laps...etc". The last time I had been in the pool was my last triathlon in November. I actually swam faster this time. Maybe training is over-rated :) When I got out of the pool, I sat by the wall hoping I wouldn't die. Then I saw Tim swim to the finish. He was having an off day and I was really lucky I beat him. Next time I won't be so lucky! I'm pleased with the results given the situation. I probably tacked on a week to my recovery. Run: 25:30 T1: 1:01 Bike:33:59 T2: 1:06 Swim: 10:31 Total: 1:12:09
