I ran cross country and track in high school in good old Indiana and at Valparaiso University in college. I've been married for 17 years now to my beautiful wife Kathleen. We have 4 wonderful kids, and I teach physics, astronomy, and earth science at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL.

After 3 months of almost no running, I ran 2 miles this morning.  It was cold at only 7 degrees, but at least there was no wind.  I felt okay, but I could definitely tell it had been a few months.  Total time was 17:15 (8:38/mile).

Another 2 miles today.  I was a bit sore from yesterday, but I felt better.  It was warmer today, but windier than yesterday.  Total time was 16:55 (8:28), so it was a little bit faster than yesterday.  They're forecasting 6-12 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow with highs in the single digits after the storm.  Nothing like a Wyoming winter.

Temperatures in the single digits with blowing snow.  It was cold and difficult running in the snow, but it was fun.  I ran around the block a few times rather than out in the open beside the golf course like I have been.  I figured it would provide a little protection from the wind.  Total time was 18:32 for 2.2 miles (8:25/mile).

I woke up to temperatures of -27 degrees so I decided to wait until it warmed up a bit before running.  It was around -7 degrees when I ran.  Fortunately, there was no wind.  Total time was 16:22 for 2 miles (8:11/mile).

It was a heat wave today in Laramie.  The temperature was +8 degrees!  I felt like going a little bit farther and did 3.  Total time was 24:11 (8:04/mile).

A quick 2 miles with a temperature of 15 degrees outside.  It felt really warm after the past few days.  Total time was 15:48 (7:54/mile).  I pushed harder the last mile to see how I felt and to go under 16 minutes.  It felt good.

A total of three miles along the usual route by the golf course.  It was 32 degrees when I ran today!  It felt nice to run in shorts again.  Total time was 23:23 (7:48/mile).

Most of my runs have been in the late morning or early afternoon when the temperature was a little warmer.  This morning I ran pretty early because it has been warmer and because I need to start getting to school sooner.  All of my classes except one are in the afternoon so I need to make good use of the mornings for doing homework and research.  Total time for 3 today was 24:08 (8:03/mile).

I felt good today and ran 4 miles.  It was the old route around the parking lot and recreation fields that I used to do.  Total time was 30:11 (7:33/mile).

A quick run today with a bit of excitement.  It has been a little warmer during the day here so the snow has been melting and then refreezing at night.  It has created many icy, slick spots.  I have manages to stay on my feet up to this point, but today was the exception.  I was going around a turn and slipped.  I got up pretty quickly and didn't think much about it except for my hand that I skinned up a bit, but as the day has gone on my knee and ankle were bothering me more.  We'll see how it feels tomorrow.  Total time was 16:44 (8:22/mile).

The knee and ankle were still a little sore today, but it didn't bother me on my run.  I had to stop and walk a few times over the really icy spots.  Total time was 24:10 (8:03/mile).

Another quick 2 along the golf course.  My New Balance shoes are hurting my knees and ankles to run in.  It might be time for some new shoes.  One thing I have noticed about shoes and consistent (or lack thereof) running is that you can put a lot more miles on shoes if you run consistently.  If you run off and on or 3-4 times a week, you will be lucky to get 400-500 miles on a pair of shoes.  If you run 6 days a week consistently, your body gets used to the routine and adapts to the pounding.  You can run on older shoes with no problem or shoes with less cushioning and not get injured.  I've seen this in my running and in others.  I don't know if everyone can run for 3000+ miles on a pair of shoes like Sasha or run in Five fingers or Crocs for that matter, but I think most people could run more than 400 miles on a pair of shoes without injury.  Just my 2 cents.  Total time for my run today was 15:51 (7:55/mile).

I did the loop out by the stake center building.  My knees and ankles were a little sore and stiff starting out, but they loosened up by the end.  Total time was 30:14 (7:57/mile).

Well, I took the weekend off to see if my legs would feel better today.  They were still sore, and it took me about a mile for them to loosen up a bit.  They were still sore to run on, but it was bearable.  I guess I need to break down and get some new shoes.  It's not hard to breathe while I run, so I can go farther, but my legs are slowing me down and slowing down my progression to higher mileage.  Total time for today was 24:02 (8:01/mile).

Once again it took awhile to get warmed up, but it felt okay after that.  I ran around the golf course to the clubhouse and back for 3.6 miles in 31:23 (8:43/mile).

The sore knees and ankles are getting a little old.  I feel like an old man starting out every day.  I got up a little late and only had time for 2 miles before class.  Total time was 15:37 (7:48/mile).

The legs felt a little better today, but still annoyingly sore.  I've been running in the 'newest' of my shoes.  They have a little more than 300 miles on them.  Due to operator error, I didn't get a total time for my run.  It was around 8 minute miles.
