I WON A TURKEY!!!!!!  One of my life-long running goals has been to win a turkey and today I did it!

Super humid this morning.  We went out to David's car and it was covered in a mist.  David later explained to me why humidity is bad for running.  With more moisture in the air, there is less oxygen.  DUH.  I have never actually thought about it until he explained it to me today on our cool-down.

We got to the start a little early to warm-up.  We saw a runner we have nicknamed "Oliver" getting ready to warm-up as well.  Oliver is only 15, but he is quick.  David had some competition...  Looked around and they had brought two girls from the X-country team as well, so I thought I might have some ladies running by me.

There were about fifty runners at the race, not too bad.  We all lined up and the RD called out, "GO!"  Off we went.  There was a little runner in blue shorts that was fast!  I watched David as he held out in the beginning so he wouldn't burn out.  There were a lot of runners going just way to fast including the cross girls.

Passed the girls by the first mile and held my pace.  We ran all around the base and by mile three I gave myself a big walk.  I let my heart rate fall all the way down and then I started running again.

Finished the race as the first lady surrounded by some really strong and fast men.  Saw David and he took second to the boy in the blue shorts.  We both congradulated him for being so fast and strong.

Winners of the age divisions won a turkey, and a few turkeys were raffled off.  GREAT prizes!  Everyone also got a box of stuffing.

Cool race.  Now I must think 1/2 marathon!  (3 weeks)

Awesome! I don't think I could win a turkey, but I don't think I'd want to either :) I don't touch dead things....including meat! I know, I'm weird, but I think you already knew that.

Congrats on an awesome win and even getting a walk break in there - holy cow girl!!

You are so cool! Nice that they have these turkey trots before Thanksgiving so that you can know whether or not you have to buy one.
