tried to run some intervals in BF canyon, but there was this HUGE wind out of the west pushing up the canyon. It sucked the lifeblood right out of me running into it on the first interval, and all my desire to continue running. I am starting to wonder what the point is of this? very dejected, ready to quit.

mile 1 "downhill" into the wind: 6:02.
mile 2 uphill with the wind: 5:58
mile 3 downhill into the wind 6:37, no typo.
mile 4 uphill with the wind 6:01

I'm with you there Scott. I've been wondering what the point is lately too. I mostly love running for the every day energizing effect of how good it feels to exercise my body, but having goals and pushing myself too hard can sometimes take the fun out of it.

Hang in there, guys! Spring is coming soon. Take a week off or reduce your training if you need to reenergize. Maybe once your big races get closer you will feel more competitive desire.

Yup, been there, done that. "Downhill" with the huge headwind. Afternoon run?

Take a week off? I am thinking of taking a month off and just sitting in front of the TV eating crunch berries and drinking mountain dew and getting fat and lazy...

Jon, noon time, I wasn't expecting the wind then. Maybe it is a sign spring is coming (wishful thinking)?

OK, I will re-group for tomorrow!!

HAHA - sorry to laugh at your misery, but you have to admit your dramatic throwing in the towel comment sounds kind of funny from our perspective. Don't give up yet!

And also, asking what is the point is probably a valid question to ask. Certainly if you do it for fun or enjoyment, then running a certain pace is not required for that. If you do it solely to improve upon your times, you may be discouraged a lot more. I get a lot of joy out of my slow days...maybe you just need to ratchet down your expectations sometimes. (I know that sounds like a slacker thing to do...but it does have the ability to help with the enjoyment factor in some cases. Also, you probably don't want to listen to me if you have any inclination of winning things or being the fastest, because I have no clue about that stuff.)

I do kind of sound like a drama queen, don't I :-)

Setting goals is actually the only thing that keeps me running consistently, otherwise I slack off as I am inherently lazy. So I set moderate yet challenging goals for myself well aware of my limitations: I am getting old, I am too heavy and tall to be a really good runner, and I have bad feet for running, and weak calves and shins. But that just makes it all the funner to try to excel with my limitations I guess!

Hey, welcome to 'non-stealth' mode...you're going public with your name now, congrats!

Aaron, I actually would have done that long ago if I had known how. when I signed up for the blog I didn't know the difference between blog nickname and web nickname so just used the nickname redrooster for both. then it kind of dawned on me that there must be someway to change the blog name to the real name and using my high tech computer skills I made the change in blog options. I was afraid my blog might blow up or something as a result so was pleased to see it worked , I should have known Sasha had it figured out.
