no running. my raw bare left big toe really hurts. but it is not surprising based on a true scientific study showing redheads are complete wusses when it comes to experiencing pain.

ha ha ha, I knew it!! My cousins were always big cry-babies ;-)

hope all is well, scott. i miss your posts!

Bonnie, your cousins and I have science on our sides! and you should have seen me after my cochlear implant surgery if you want to see a real cry baby, geez that hurt!

Allie, thanks, I am still here sort of, been in crisis mode with work and getting ready for another "exciting" trip to DC next week. Looking forward to running on the Capital Crescent trail next week. that is the best part of going to DC.

Stupid toenails, why do we have them?

From Scott Ensign on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 15:57:08 from 67.41.176.32

Steve, I wonder exactly that after every downhill race and marathon I run as they turn black and blue and I wait for them to fall off!

I actually found a neat trick though. I simply used a pair of scissors to cut off the top of the toe box on my nike frees so they sort of resemble sandals. No pressure on the toes, and they work just fine. I am thinking of patenting my new open toe running shoe design!

Scott, your last post is reason #4,390,248 of why I like you so much. Very running geek of you! Dean and his friends are forever cutting and tweaking their shoes. Very "70s runner chic".

From Steve on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 16:21:07 from 70.151.12.66

You could call them Freetoes, kind of like Fritos..Are you around Saturday? We are taking the boat out for a few hours.

From Scott Ensign on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 19:28:06 from 70.58.46.195

Bonnie, thanks, Iam a 70s guy so I guess 70s chic fits..

Steve, free toes, I like that... maybe we should trademark it?

I could probably be talked into Saturday... I get back late Friday from DC, but send me an email if you decide to go out and I will try to make it. I have the drysuit, so even if it snows, who cares, I can ski on ice in a drysuit :-)

Hey, hope the recovery is going well. We should get out and do a run sometime soon (when you're better, of course).

I recruit Red Heads big time for my sports teams. Of all my kids the Red head is the biggest Cry Baby, but he is by far and away the biggest athlete.

It is rare when I find a Red head that isn't above average if not great. They are intense. I have even found a few little medical things that make them querky.

Be glad you are a Red head. I love the open toe box idea.

From Nan on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 00:35:52 from 24.8.144.22

OUCH!! Sorry to hear about your toe. Hope it heals up quickly.

On another note, I saw your brother in the Wahoo's Fish Taco joint today. He was telling Coach and I all about his "long weekend" he is still recovering from. Funny guy. Haha.

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 14, 2010 at 22:36:37 from 71.219.65.246

Do you know that last year I had to have my toenail surgically removed (it was also infected, probably because I popped a zit or something with the same pin I used to pop the blister). I was on antibiotics as well. Do you know WHEN I did this? 2 days before St George!!! And i ran it. Geez, you are a wimp, but as long as you can back it up.....

Take care. It really is very painful. I have had 3 removed by the podiatrist and it is not the way to go! Much better when they take care of themselves.

From Paul on Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 14:35:59 from 65.103.252.214

Hope your recovery is going well Scott. A few things of note:

1) Is this you? It's on the mesquite marathon home page.

2) If you're feeling down, this video should cheer you up:

thanks for the comments guys! sorry I have gotten so far behind on the blog. Nan, my brother did mention he saw you, like me he is excited about your Baltimore race. Matt, you are going to give me an ego with comments like that :-)

Kelli, toenails are kind of the bane of running aren't they? I like to let them take their course too. my right big one is getting near the fall off stage now.. amazing you could run a maraton right after having one taken off, ouch!!

Paul- that is me on the mesquite page, cool! but shouldn't I get royalties for that or something...

and that video is great, "poor" brent! he needs to learn to wear his protective equipment during practice too I guess! big game October 24.. I see the game will be on NBC in the evening so we can watch it! if you are interested in getting together for it let me know. I'd be happy to throw some brats on the grill here for us!

Scott, I'd be up for that.
