have gotten way behind on the blog, sorry. combination of NIH grant deadlines, a job search I'm on, and general apathy due to the pollution and weather. well, today I ran 7 miles in my five fingers in BF canyon. Mile marker 15 up 3.5 miles and back. average pace 7:19.

I have no real running ambitions right now except to stay in shape and survive the winter and nasty weather. I am using this period to  run in five fingers and flats to (hopefully) strengthen my feet, shins and calves (hopefully) and to just continue a general 35-40 mile a week base.

Job search? As in, outside USU/Logan?

Howdy. I check out your blog every once in a while and noticed your affinity for lightweight/minimal shoes. I was wondering if you ever run sockless.

we actually have a search going for an asst prof in my department with six candidates coming through in a three week period, I am on the committee. We are one of the fortunate few departments at USU to go ahead with a search, I guess since we are about 4-5 faculty short due to retirements and people who left. Me, I am still here for the long term I think!

Glad to hear. You had me worried for a second.

Vis, I always wear socks, because I am prone to blisters, but I may try running without them now that you have given me the idea.

I used to wear my five fingers without socks of course, but when winter came I got some injinji toe socks, they work great with the five fingers. Amzing that the feet don't get cold, and I have even adapted to pavement in them.

I really enjoy running in light shoes and the fives, though I found that this can be pretty dangerous once the mileage goes up above about 50-60 per week due to load on the calves, as I found out training for my last marathon. I am hoping I can adapt and gradually increase my mileage, we'll see once I start thinking about another marathon. The minimal shoes I really like are the new balance 790 and the asics hyperspeed, they are the lightest most flexible, and economical (40-50 dollar shoes on sale).

Thanks for the insight. I have some 790s and love them. I skip the socks anytime I run w/ those. I've wanted to try some flats, so perhaps I'll check out the hyperspeeds.
