No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

My PR streak is officially over :( I broke 20 again, but fell 6 seconds short of last year's time and was a looong way from sub 19. I thought I started out too fast because I was keeping pace with Jason who is usually a sub 18 finisher. I didn't bother to check my garmin or I would have realized he was just running slower than usual, so I backed off a little when I should have been pushing harder. During the second mile I knew it was feeling too easy, but I just didn't feel like pushing it and the pavement was getting a little slick from the snow so that's all the excuse I needed to wimp out in the effort department. It was still a fun race even without the PR I hoped for. My friend Paul brought his whole family out to participate and all four of them placed in their age groups! Paul and I also won turkeys in the raffle. It was a good day for sure! Now I'm off to watch Machete with my son-in-law.

Hey nice race - even w/o a PR still looks good, plus a turkey is pretty cool. Deep fry that bad boy! Let us know how the movie is!

Great race. I tried so hard to run sub 7 the other night. I couldn't even get one sub 7. Curse all my consistent miles lately! anyway, you did great as usual even without PRing. and I miss the wild mane you used to have. Luckily I've immortalized it on my blog.

Dan - Thanks! I've never deepfried a turkey before, probably because I've seen too many turkey fryer accident videos on you tube. The movie was EPIC!

Burt - Thanks for sharing that picture. I almost forgot how cute you were back then.

Well, it must be nice to know you had a faster one in you! Great job!

Nice race! Very close to your PR and sounds like you learned some things which is always good for the future.

Nice job, always good to get under 20 even if it isn't a PR.

So glad you still got a turkey! Great pace!

From rockness18 on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 21:44:51 from 69.183.232.138

looks like sub-20 is now normal for you. Great job! By the way, I absolutely hate 5k's...they're too painful.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 23:23:01 from 76.121.76.165

Sno - I can't complain about a win and a free turkey, but I'd feel better if I had given 100%.

Jim - I learned that I should be grasping for reasons to push harder instead of the opposite. I should also use that garmin since I have it on my wrist and all.

Tom - thanks, it is good to see another sub 20.

April - heck yes! We'll need it too because about 30 people are showing up for dinner on Thursday. It's a good thing we have the clubhouse at our new condo.

Dave - you may be right. It's funny how that seemed so unreachable last year. I always give 110% on 5k because they are supposed to be painful and that's what is bugging me now that I look back on this one. It didn't hurt at all so I know I could have done better. I did well physically, but I feel a little defeated mentally. I need some incentive. Where's Thaine when I need him? :)
