First run with frankenwatch today. It's a little heavier than normal, but I forgot all about it being there after a mile or so. I ran 86 minutes today and it still shows 4 bars(full) on the battery indicator. I'm going to leave it off the charger for a couple days and see how it holds up.

That is hilarious & very industrious! Nice run!!

JG - It's not pretty, but it is functional. It might look a little better once I glue the watch body back together. I just taped for a test run before I seal it back up and make it weather proof.

My 305 died because it came apart and got water in it. Looks like you have figured out how to keep yours running.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 19:07:21 from 75.196.58.151

The only thing wrong with mine was a tired battery; it couldn't run as long as me anymore. It should be good to go for a 100 miler now(not that I ever will be).

It's hard to believe how clean and dry it was inside considering how many times I had it in the rain, shower, hottubs, etc. I expected to find a big mess in there.

Great job! is the battery taped to the wristband?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 21:43:44 from 75.196.58.151

April - Yes, there is a hole in the band that works perfectly to loop the tape through. I'll post some better pics after I glue the case back together and rewrap the battery.

Nice run, nice hack. I have considered this with my old garmin. How did you know which side of the battery to wire to what side of the garmin? Mind helping a tad?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 22:37:41 from 24.22.239.183

Dan - I'll post a "how to" complete with pics when I'm all done. The batteries are clearly marked for + and - and the power wires inside the garmin are appropriately red and black. This is a pretty easy and clean mod if you replace the old battery with one that will actually fit inside. I drilled a small hole in the case for the wires to pass through for an external battery instead. The hardest part either way you go is soldering the wires to the new battery.

Trap, the cool kids have Game Boys. I like your recycling project; it reminds me of replacing the battery in my iPod.
