Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

YEA! I got the go ahead to run. Doc said that it was just a very small amount of implantation bleeding behind the placenta and that since there have been no further problems in 2 weeks that it would be in the best interest of me and the baby to run. Almost did a happy dance right there!! Now to find the energy to get up early and run....

Miles, miles...I love miles! Finally able to post some!!

Went to boot camp this morning for resistance and she had us run a bit to warm-up, so I got my .2 done early.

Hit the TM with Kelli and made her run a little farther to stay with me while I plodded along at my 10mm pace for the three miles :)

got to 'sprint' my last .1 at 8mm - wow things are different now. The energy is just gone, gone gone - but I am SO happy I just got to run!!

Thanks to Kelli for getting me up this morning and out the door. It was SO cold! Did just a nice easy 5K on the stake route. Got home and grabbed Lucy took her on an easy one mile walk cool-down.

Finished off at the gym with yoga. Man! I've missed that class. Still can't put my head below my stomach w/out wanting to throw up, which causes issues in some poses, but I just modify what I can.

Feel like death warmed over today...on top of the usual lack of energy and nausea, my head is going to explode, my voice is gone and I want to crawl back in bed but have 2 million things to do (or pick up/clean in the house!) before the sitter comes tonight. Special occasion to celebrate tonight for my cousin (grew up more like a brother), so it must get done. Maybe I'll just hire someone....

Still not feeling up to 'snuff' or even enough to show my 'snot face' at the gym. Too many people might spray me with the disinfectant spray mistaking me for a big germ!

Using shoveling piles of snow for my calorie burners...not that I'm getting to take in more than 600-800 calories per day. I'm sure if I could actually eat I might be able to kick this cold and feel like I can run again :)

I've become a horrible little snot faced troll that doesn't go outside! After med's starting Wednesday night, I'm starting to at least open the blinds and move around a little in this cave of mine. I nearly talked myself into going to the gym this morning, but decided what little energy I have should be spent on folding the MOUNTAIN of laundry (I don't think anyone has any clothes left in their dressers/closets!) and cleaning the house. Priorities, priorities. REALLY looking forward to getting out tomorrow though - I will, oh yes...I will!! (even if it's only to get the apple pie caramel apple from RMCF I've been craving like CRAZY!!)

I did it! I did it! I got out and ran!! I can finally say I'm a runner again. I've turned from a snot faced troll to a snot faced runner :) It was stupid of me NOT to bring a whole BOX of tissues with me, but that's what gloves and sleeves are for, right?

It was nice and easy, and with about 1/2 inch of powdery snow newly fallen a little slippery. I just did the stake 5K loop, then picked up Lucy and did a flat 1 mile to get her out and finish off.

The first mile was downhill and I saw 2 sets of footprints from other runners, entertained myself for a bit thinking about who it could be. Then the 2nd mile I saw 3 sets of footprints, imagined running with them (although the prints were going the wrong way) and remembered the last time I'd run that loop with Kelli and how I miss my running buddies! This mile and the next were all UPHILL and about 2.5-3.5 were on unplowed neighborhood streets that made the going MUCH slower, but I felt a steady effort. Just before finishing 3 I got my final downhill and finished at my house at 3.25. When I took Lucy, it was on a busier neighborhood street so it was all plowed and I didn't have to run in the snow. I was finally able to run a descent pace again. I'm honestly really embarrassed that I had over 10 mm, but I guess I shouldn't expect too much after how I've been feeling!

Well, I'm just happy to be out again and ready to get back at it next week! Today I am grateful for modern medicine and Zofran that has allowed me to eat some these past few days!

No 'miles' - hip flexor is acting up. But I did get to the gym and did step class and elliptical for 20 minutes. Then I got to come home a shovel an approach and drive away from our mailbox - the plow always throws ALL the snow from the street in front of our mailbox that we have to clear or drive clear across town to pick it up at the post office. So...weights got done today too! :)

Feeling tons better, and minus the hip flexor would be ready to run.

Hip flexor is still bad...limped through the first .25 mile to get to a normal gait. AP: 9:31 - started at 10mm then the last .5 mile ramped up a point or so every .1 on the TM mph until the last .1 was at an even 8mm. It was nice to get a run in and sweat a little! :) Did some good stretching and yoga type work in bodyflow afterward. Still can't bend over or put my head beneath my stomach, but I make it work!

I was just tired this morning. However, I got up and out and off to the gym! I did the bootcamp class and it kicked my trash. Hip flexor is marginally better (I can almost walk normal on it) and so I was ready to run, but when I was done with class every time I stood up I felt like I was going to fall over...so I opted for the recumbent bike instead. 4.5 miles at 3 resistance in 20 minutes. Running tomorrow!

as per requested - tissue count at the gym today: 5! Snot factory is still up and running :) You know that feeling just before you sneeze and your eyes water...I've had that feeling constantly for the last 15-16 hours!

Loving Christmas Miracles!! One of mine this year is zofran. What are yours?

Went to yoga, and felt good and ready to run afterward. Unfortunately the hip flexor wouldn't let me. I tried, but after .5 miles and having to keep hoping off and the pain getting worse and not better I bagged it and went to zumba instead. It was a good class, but some of it bothered my hip flexor so I still didn't get as good of a workout than I wanted. Tomorrow I'm going to hit the bike and do a HARD spin...I miss the sweet sweat! :)

18 miles on the bike in an hour with intervals on the resistance up to 7% (I'd go from 2:30mm to 4:40mm!). Hip flexor still wouldn't cooperate to run - my patience is running thin! However, I wanted and got a GREAT tough cardio workout with a good sweat today!

30 minutes on the bike until my ITB was screaming at me and I could hardly pedal w/out screaming in pain. 9 miles w/topping out the resistance out at 4% and ending at 2.5%

Then went to the body flow class... everything literally 'came out' during that class :( Final relaxation was nice though!

Why oh why has my ITB decided to start screaming at me? I'm not running...haven't run in a week! It's been just over a month since my cortizone shot. My opposite hip flexor is keeping me from running and now my ITB is keeping me off the bike? Does my body really want me to get fat, fat, fat and lazy?!? I'm SO SO SO stinkin' sick of this!! Marion helped me tons with suggestions on the hip flexor yesterday (thanks a bunch!!) and finally convinced me to get into the PT. I don't know why I'm bothering sometimes, my whole body is just falling apart piece by piece by piece - why bother at this point??

What an amazing, wonderful, beautiful morning! With a promise of a walking buddy I showed up to BBK's. It was the best Christmas gift ever, I'm so so happy that I got to go hang out with some wonderful runners! I ended up walking the first .75-1.0 miles (fast) then decided to try a little slow running. It felt okay (tolerable) so I kept up with it and kept going, the hip flexor and eventually the ITB were screaming at me, but just like  crazy children's noise I tuned it out and finished up the 'run'. It was SO fun to get out into the cold, get moving and chat with some wonderful friends!! Great way for me to start the holiday (I may not be able to walk later tonight, but hey...I still got some miles in, right? :) )

AP - 11:18 (I told you it was slow!)

This is it, I guess I'm done for good :( After being talked into going to the physical therapist, I'm now regretting it - okay not really, but just ugghhh! Either way, as I was giving my history about my hip flexor to the pt he kept shaking his head "I'm really afraid this is a stress fracture and not muscular" more and more tests he did kept coming out the same way... pointing in that general direction. He said there was some muscular stuff going on too, but that it could be a result of me trying to 'limp' through the injury the last 7 weeks.

So, I guess it did have to do with the pregnancy (drop in bone mass seems to be the biggest culprit) just not the stretching of ligaments like we thought. I'm just kind of bummed, but know that this is a good time to rest up and recoup. Since all the tests to confirm or deny a SF can't be done during pregnancy we're treating this as such to be cautious. The PT said that with the stretches he gave me and taking the 'pounding' of running and walking (for exercise) out of the picture that if it is muscular I should be pain free and ready to work back to running in 3 weeks or so. If it's a SF it will be more like 6 weeks until I'm pain free and can start back up with a gradual walking plan :(

So...the waiting game begins; bike elliptical and aqua jogging or swimming are going to be my new blogs. I want to keep up the cardio, especially now that I am starting to regain some energy and aren't throwing up thanks to the zofran. PT says that if all goes well I should be back to getting in 4-6 miles per day and 8-12 on long runs by April. Here's to hoping!!

Went to the gym and did 15 miles on the bike at 3% resistance in 45 minutes. Not too much sweating, my ITB again kicked into high pain mode about 2 minutes into the ride (I also discussed this with the PT and got stuff to do for it). Did the stretching and couple ITB strengthening stuff then headed home (I can only do it on the L side - opposite hip injury because even some of the simple stuff caused pain on hip).

Fun, fun, fun always a fun time when you're pregnant and feeling like your body is falling apart each day. What we go through for our children!! Even before we get to see their beautiful little faces. I love you little one, but please leave me a little bit of a healthy body by the time you're done in there!!
