Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Amy lost her little dog! A jerk face that lives by her BIL stole the dog. Don't get me started....long story, but I spent the morning searching for Lily. We were going to run, but were too sore from lake mountain, and then some developments in Lily's whereabouts came out and we stuck close. It was worth a skipped workout to help a friend!!

Ugh, was going to go to the gym early, but I forgot about Adam's speech class. So I then was booked until he went to pre-school at noon. I then had to get paperwork done and didn't get to the gym until 1:00! I had one hour to bust a move. I got it done, but man alive my legs are a little sore.

No way was I going to go out in the cold! I heard Dave and Chad come back after their loop...it was cold!

Got to the gym at 9:00 and got 8 miles in. Left Adam at home sleeping while Craig was working from home...got in a little trouble for that :) Oh well. Miles in!

I ventured outside today. Oh man it was cold! But, I had to get up early, wanted 10 and was sick of the gym!! Thankfully Chad was willing to drag along with me. A slow run, but cold sucks the energy right out of me! 1:27 run time...I think. Again, watch only lasted 45ish minutes.

Went ice skating on Shaggy mountian today. Oh my word I have NO traction on my shoes. Running uphill on the snow covered streets is horrid! I just slip on the push from the back. But, I finished. Slowly, but surely.

Amy met at my house early and we ran to Dave's to do Shaggy Mountain with 2 extended loops. But, Amy and I needed to be done earlier so we did the last couple miles from my house to Dave's first. Kris met Dave, Chad, Amy and me at Dave's home and so Amy Kris and I stuck together and let the speedies take off. I was a bit chilly and snowy, but nothing horrible. Winter running is never as bad as I anticiapte it! On the way up the canyon the 3 slowies decided to not take the extended loop and let the speedies do the extra 2, primarily becuase I didn't want to slog through the unbroken snow. I'm a pansie. We got to the meeting point a little early, but just did a little back and forth on the route as we waited. But, since I had to get back for our ward Christmas breakfast we had to cut the second extended loop off too :/ oh well. I'll have to do it again sometime.

Got back home in just enough time to wake up the family and get their teeth brushed and off to breakfast at the church. My 2 nephews are visiting and so we planned a full day of fun afterward. Sledding (which was CRAZY fun! But, man I'm old) then home to clean up and off to laser tag then to stuff our faces full of popcorn at Frozen. A great Saturday if I do say so myself!!

My 2 nephews decided they wanted to try skiing today, so I got to be taxi service because I had a 3 year old tag-along and couldn't join in the skiing fun. Since they were only doing a half day it wasn't worth driving home across town just to go back and pick them up, so I figured I'd go to Cottonwood Heights rec center and put Adam in chuck a child and get a good 2 hour workout in.

I did  6 miles on the TM to start in 50 min, then did some on the track...17.5 laps/mile was a little tough to swallow, but the older couple walking (one with a walker) around the track were SO impressed with how fast I was running and that I'd done TWO miles SO quickly, it made me feel like an Olympian :)

Then I hit the weight room, but decided to do RAD's version of HIIT intervals. I did a weight routine arms/core and then did a 1/2 mile on the TM at 8.5mph (7:00 pace) - it wasn't as easy as it should've been! But, I was happy I'd actually done it. I repeated the set 3X then after the last 1/2 mile repeat I did a cool down 1/2 mile to round things out to 10 miles for the day.

Saw a couple of old co-workers at Cottonwood Heights, always good to see people you haven't seen in years. I then picked up the boys and after getting home and cleaned up went to my nephews graduation. It was another great day! But, 2 teenagers have worn me out. You think it's hard keeping up with little ones, teenagers have nothing on 3 year olds...at least 3 year olds take naps!

Oh my word. Sleeping off the fun weekend trying to be a teenager again. I had to get up at 3:45 to take both boys to the airport. QP and Bye-wing were missing their boys :)

I toyed with stopping at the Oval on the way home. Newtons had cancelled the run...the guys had work priorities. Work...HA! where IS your priority? :) But, I could barely stay awake. So, I just went home. I'd run during pre-school time. Nope. I seriously could NOT say awake for loving or money. Nothing. It was a good thing Adam felt like behaving and not destroying the house. I slept the whole stinkin' day away. Even after pre-school. I didn't really wake up until 7, but then I ate, put kids to bed and put myself to bed. I'm too old for this crap. I need sleep :P

2 miles just to shake out the rust on the track. No Amy...she was sick.

4 miles on the TM...in 34 minutes.

Then another 2 miles on the track just to even a few things out. I wanted to finish with only using one punch (1 hour+ 15 minutes lee-way) for the nursery. I was happy to only use my one punch! Not talking to a bunch of people while working out seems to make it go faster :)

Running alone at the rec center with only my music to keep me company is getting old...so very old. Wanted company like NO other :/ Amy and Kelli need to get feeling better soon.

Kim and Scott were at the rec center though, so I did 2 warm-up on the track, then 3 on the TM with them while they finished up their speed Friday. I did one finishing mile on the track to get to my 6, then grabbed baby and headed home because I had about 5,000 things to do for my daughters 13th birthday today. When did I get old enough to have a teenager...I thought I was still 22!

Best Christmas Surprise! Becca came to visit! I found out just a day before and she said she would come with me to Rachelle's Christmas run in Provo with Kneaders afterward.

After a week of lonely running inside I was SO excited to run with Becca. We seirously just chatted the SLOW miles away and did 5 up to Bridal Veil Falls, took a picture and headed back. I need new shoes. Mine were slipping all around! I just don't want to use my new shoes in the snow :)

This run meant SO much to me!! The weather was purely delightful, softly falling snow, the best company and just a couple inches of soft stuff on the ground. This is a run I will cherish for ages. Reminds me of why I started running...for the relationships!

I love running, but I love running with friends more. My circle of amazing friends I've made running mean the world to me. I don't know how I would've gotten through all the crazy in my life without all of you. Then, everyone I meet just brings more joy and happiness in! I miss my blogging friends. Darn families taking over my time so I can't check up on all of you on here as much as I want to! I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the beautiful winter weather we've got :)

34.77 miles away from QP's door. I can feel the sisterly love already! SO close! I might even have time this year to take a nice little long run WITH QP once I get there. I really wasn't sure I'd make it and without injury. This year has been amazing as far as my running goes. I've had my cake with 12 marathon+ distances run a PR in the marathon, Boston, pacing, HOMM challenge...wow. I'm not sure what to tackle next year. Suggestions? Maybe QP will have some suggestions when I get there :)

Shaggy Mountain Loop with Dave. Chad is a work-a-holic lately and George is broken. So, poor Dave had to go slow with me. But, I got it done and I think the last miles were a pretty decent pace. First time since I got my Yak Trax 2 years ago for Christmas that I've worn them. I actually like them :) I think I will start using them more often in the winter.

Traditonal Christmas Eve run with Kim, Scott, Kelli, Amy, Scott, Dave and Jerry. A great group! We headed 3 miles up Butterfield Canyon and my Yak Trax got me up with little problems. The deeper snow still was tough to break through, but overall it was nice...especially coming down! I love running downhill and just letting it go. I can't run uphill to save my life, but downhill is quite nice :)

Then we went the back way to my house, past the stake center and over to Kim's house. A total of 10.5 miles. I think the road miles were low 8's, or maybe it was just one of the miles that someone said. My darn garmin is toast so I just don't even try anymore.

We had an incredible breakfast and stunk up Kim's house for all his kids :) good times...certainly good times.

Christmas Eve I got new trail shoes. I went with some Solomon shoes. The nice thing is that I got them at Cabelas and they said I can bring them back anytime in the first 90 days for any reason (even if they'd been used), then on top of that I could bring them back for any manufactures issues (torn seams/holes etc) within the first year, no questions asked and trade them in for a new pair. I remarked to the salesman "really?!? I don't think you know what I can do to a pair of shoes in a year!" He said "Yup. Isn't it great? Free pair of new shoes!" So, I now need to break these suckas in. Bring on the trails.

So, I got a group together for Shaggy Mountain...again. Kim, Scott, Dave and I did the classic loop. I really like my Shaggy Mountain loop. If anyone ever wants a hybrid road/trail running route and is in my area, please give me a call and I'll take you on an incredible journey!

I think I finished a little faster than Monday, but I've been eating waaay to much crapola. My butt is draging and I can tell that I'm not giving my body the fuel it needs. I'm using cheap fuel, not the quality stuff and I'm not performing like I should...go figure.

So, what to do when you need to break in trail shoes...go run Lake Mountain! Ding!!

Dave, Kim and I (aka the Solomon crew, since we're all cool enough to have Solomon shoes) hit the trail. Man, I suck. I really am losing any uphill running fast lately. I don't know why I can't run uphill and it keeps getting worse, but it does. Oh well. I was still running patches at 2.5, but then I walked the rest of the way to the top. Oh what a glorious morning!!

First thing, I tagged the peak! The "green" way :)

Took a Picture of The Solomon Crew

Then I took the epic Solomon picture :)

There are some places in this world only your feet can take you :)

(okay, yes 4 wheelers can go up this route, but still...stick with me in the moment here, would ya?!?)

I was excited to start the way back down, because with a packed trail the technical and steep parts I normally have to dance down to not fall and kill myself, were all packed in and ready for easy running. Well, they were still steep! I lost Dave and Kim on the first little trail down to the road, because I still couldn't run down that steep thing! But, after a couple miles I caught Kim and Dave...well, he was long gone. It was an incredible morning!! The worst parts were down near the parking area where the sun melts the snow creating ice. A little ice skating there for the guys, I just stayed on the un tracked out stuff and I was fine :)

New shoes performed well and I had a great time! Legs aren't nearly as sore as the other times either. I'm liking this trail more and more and more :) So, I posted about getting a group together on NY Eve. Anyone and everyone invited!

The most EPIC part of this run, was that I finally surpassed my goal for the year! I made it to QP's house! What a run to finish on as well. This is the first time I've actually made and completed (with breaking my foot and having to compromise) a mileage goal! I know 2186 miels isn't all that many for the majority of you, but it is my biggest year. I've done 12 marathon + distances, a half iron, became record holder for the stair climb, paced a ton of races, met and got to run with some of my favorite people in the world, drove 18 hours (one way) to pace a marathon with my BRF Becca, 3rd overall Oquirrh Man (trail half Friday, road full Saturday - men and women), Epic Boston that changed us all, PR in the marathon this fall and SO many other amazing things. This has just really been an incredible year. I'm SO greateful that I have remained relatively uninjured and didn't have to sideline myself for any reason other than recovery from back to back races. I am one happy girl! I think I really got my cake and got to eat it too!! I won't press my luck next year :) The only thing that would've been better was if I REALLY ended up in QP's driveway Friday morning :(

Well, a Saturday with no running...crazy, crazy, crazy!! I think I need my head checked! But, it was fun anyway :) Our rec center does a 100X100 challenge in the pool every year near the end of the year and today was the day! This year I brought Lauren along with me to show me up. Since I haven't been swimming in MONTHS I wasn't sure what today would bring, but I had my new little counter toy and 3 hrs 40 min to just swim (we got there late, because mom always takes too long to get ready and snoozes too many times).

Lauren kicked some trash and got all 100 done. According to my counter I only got 82 done. I kind of wonder if I didn't properly lap it, because lots of people that were swimming the same time and speed as me around me finished. I don't quite get it, but I'm okay with the 82 and living vicariously through my incredible daughter! She also got sick to her stomach and finally threw up so that she could comfortably finish the last 10. Poor girl...never eat bananas before swimming!!!

I was going to run afterward, but being all chloriney I wanted to shower. My hair was all tangled and gross and I didn't want to shower, dry my hair then run outside. I didn't want to run with wet tangled hair at the gym...ugh. Plus, no one was there to run with :( So, I bagged it and figured almost 4 hours of swimming would be good for the day.

Guess What? I remember why I like to run! :) Yup, one of the best running days of the year! I went up to Layton/Farmington to meet Becca for a short little 8 miler along the old rail trail. It was perfect. I didn't want to stop. I just wanted to keep running. The company, weather and run was perfect. We averaged about an 8:20 and we just cruised and chatted. Oh, how I loved this run. I wish Becca was around more :/ I might be able to run faster and more miles if she were.

Yup. I'm crazy. Despite feeling still sore and fatigued from Friday's climb up Lake Mountain, I did it again. I think we got up to the top under 1:10 (which was a good push!) then the way down was just incredible. Dave and Kelli were nice and waited for me on the way up, then Kelli and I just hung out and chatted the way down. Since my garmin died, I don't know anything about pace, just that it was a great last run of the year!

There was a big group of people that joined us and I don't ever remember anyone...except Jen and the ones I already mentioned :) Jen did a "peak tour" once at the top. I think I'll have her take me on that route sometime soon.
