Short-Term Running Goals: Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal. It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :) I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!
Long-Term Running Goals:
Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.
Run for the rest of my life!
Personal: 4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!
Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free! I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front. After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM. Favorite Blogs: |

Met Craig there and did Cyle's boxing class...always a workout!
Met Blaine at Yellow Fork to take the dogs on a run. Lucy enjoyed her little jaunt. I had to take off to get boys to their doctor appointments. 4 miles total in the frozen mud and ice.

| | A crazy day.... lots of kids appointments to take care of and I did what I could in the mean-time to get my miles etc in.
Lena's HIIT boxing class for 45 min
1 mile running while Adam finished music class
Drove to the gym and threw him in chuck a child
Got 4.5 miles done in the 35 minutes I had until daycare closed (finally hitting decent paces), then I did 1.5 more on the track while Adam entertained himself on my phone and waited in the chair by the track. at 11 laps/mile I get to see him quite often and he is a good "screen time" kid too :)
I then did a double boxing class in the evening, because I want to go to some different instructors and try them out.
Marci did her HIIT boxing class and I was late, because of a mix up with dinner for a family in the ward. Then Cat was out and Jimmy substituted for her, so I had a one on one class with Jimmy...holy crap. He had me solo on the bags for the whole hour! Man alive, but I had a lot of fun :) my shins are all nice and bruised from learning to kick!

| | Shaggy Mountain with the Newtons in the early morning hours. I was just a little slow because of my workout last night.
I then went back to Cyle's class at 9:15 to get another beat down.
Afterward I met Kelli at Yellowfork to see how muddy it was. Oh man...warm weather and rain make for nice muddy trails. It was slow going up AND down. But, another few miles to add to the total for the day.

| | Because of all the jumping and moving on the cement floor at boxing my shins are starting to yell at me, so I figured it would be a good day to relax and take off running.
I did Marci's HIIT class and she had us doing sprints etc around the parking lot, so I probably got a mile in, but meh...
Then the gym added a yoga class after Marci's class. Oh it was SO good to be back at yoga! I truly enjoyed it.

| | I should've run a quarter more to make it 13...I feel like a slacker!
Kelli, Heidi, Shanna, Dave and I met at my house and we did the Shaggy Mountain half course, but didn't go through the Nazi camp. Instead we did Moody hill, up to Shaggy Mountain Rd then at the top of the road we took a side trail to the peak like we did last week. Oh it was good! Then we came home up and over the flag pole hill. The only thing I like about that is going over the Mario Kart strip :)
Kelli gave us a Christmas treat of Coke with Almond Joy creamer...wow! I don't drink soda, but man I may have to change that. SO yummy!!! Then Shana gave us muffins that were clean and SO good! I need to get to baking soon.
A great run and despite our slow pace, it was a really strong effort...at least on my part!

| | I did my regular morning boxing class, but Lena had Cyle substitue. Holy crap. Don't tell that guy to do HIIT training...he never gives you a break! It was a good class and my butt hurts like crazy from the squats/lunges.
Kelli was there and had run down so I ran with her back to her house, grabbed a drink and then headed back to my car. I liked the downhill with the wind at my back a lot more than uphill and into the wind TO her house :) It was much nicer than running circles at the gym or the TM!
Trying to be kind to my shins....

| | Oh I was tired today. I had plans for 2 boxing classes and 10+ miles...but I slept instead :) Craig is out of town so I didn't have a reason to get out of bed for 6AM class and couldn't run down there, because I don't have time to run home and still get kids up and off to school on time. So, since my shins are still aching I decided I needed a break...ha! I'm so good at rationalizing.
I did get to Cyle's class at 9:15 and was sweating buckets all over the floor and I worked with him on the pads it was flying all over. Made me laugh.
Then I hit the gym for 6 miles, but because I was late getting there and then had to take a couple phone calls I could only get in five before I had to leave to go pick up Adam from pre-school.
I went and said hello to the RunAways up at Yellowfork. I love chatting with them afterward. I wish I could run with them, but I don't like running solo and they don't finish fast enough for me to get Adam on time so I'm kind of forced to do something different unless someone a little faster comes and is willing to pull ahead of the group with me.

| | Another day of no running. I iced and rolled and stretched yesterday and things are a little better, but I'm still a little leary of running on it quite yet. Better to take days off early in the game, right?
Boxing class with Cyle...which is always killer and then 30 minutes on the rowing machine and 10 minutes of walking 3mph+ on a 15% grade incline.

I was dying. Not running properly is killing my endurance. I managed 8:30ish up for 5 miles and then 7:30s down to average at 8:10 for the 10 miles.
Kneaders afterward...yum!
Leg was achy all afternoon and evening, but better Sunday.

back to my TM incline...
1 mile @6% and 5.2mph
1 mile @4% and 6.0mph
1 mile @3% and 6.5mph
1 mile @3-2% (decrease every quarter after the first 1/2 mile) and 6.5-8mph gotta hit that speedy finish.
leg is slightly achy. Iced and stretched. Getting tired of it...

| | 6AM Cyle's boxing with Craig. He had us do about 5 billion push ups in all different forms. Holy crud he kicks my trash!
9:15 back to Cyle's class. Another good sweat fest, but this time it was core instead of push-ups.
Becca then joined me for a traipse through Shaggy Mountain. I love running with that girl! I miss her like crazy when she goes. There are just some people you click with and can be 100% real with no pretense and they love you all the same. You AND your crazy, better yet they understand it and support it :) thanks for always being there for me girl!! 9 miles with a low 9AP with all the climbing. I chickened out on some hills and walked instead of pushing the run. I need more mental resolve!
Nothing in the PM, family Christmas party.

| | I haven't done back to back road runs because of my stupid leg for a couple weeks, but I couldn't give up my Traditional Christmas Eve run! Kim always hosts and does an incredible job! This year there were 40ish people?? The guy is a celebrity! Or maybe it is his wife's cooking :) I had to start slowly to warm up my stupid leg so I hobbled along with Toby as every one else busted a move ahead. I feel so slow lately. I see posts with speed and tempo miles and I'm grateful to run IN pain. Yeah, anyway....we made it the 2.5 up the canyon to the pump house and then turned and ran down. I thought Toby was right with me, but with about a mile left I realized she wasn't. I kept chatting with Melissa racing down the canyon and luckily hit the bottom and and the re-group. Then I just hung with Toby the rest of the way to Kim's. It was plenty fast for me and my broken self. We did do a bonus loop to get an even 10! A quick picture and we both took off for appointments and didn't have much time to hang.
I got to boxing class in time to get credit for it. I love it, but I can't wait until this blasted contest is over and I don't feel like I HAVE to go to every class! Lena did an awesome workout and got me ready to endure the holidays!

| | No running. I think I need some more time for this blasted leg. Sigh. I feel like all my plans for the year that isn't even here yet are just slipping through my fingers. Sigh.
2 hour endurance ride at the kickr lab. I seriously LOVE that place!! A nice sweat fest for sure. 57 miles and 96 avg candence. Mileage isn't accurate, but as long as it is consistent I can use it as a comparison.
9:15 boxing with Nick, a new teacher. Great teacher, but he needs to give us more. Too much standing around in class. He will get the hang of it and have us begging for mercy soon enough.
10:15 yoga. Much better class than last week. I hope this trend of improving each week continues.
days I don't run (despite 4 hours of working out) I feel like a slug and like I didn't do anything. This is Rachel's whine post...whine, whine, whine. Time off SUCKS!!!!

| | Again trying to ease off the leg...I hope I get back to running soon, it is starting to get to me. Okay, starting is an understatement.
I did set a PR today though. I did 5.68 miles! It may have taken me 4:15:30 to finish it and it may have been in the pool, but this is the longest swim I have ever done in my life! 100 X 100yds or 200 laps (of 50yds, so down and back is one). To do it and realize that I haven't been in the pool for 6 months, well, I'll take it. I'll now have my name in lights on the swim scoreboard of the JL Rec center for the next month.
Lauren came with me. She finished last year and this year. When I was done the first thing she said to me was "I finished an hour ago" little turd! She certainly is a good swimmer. I told her we would rematch next week at the revolution run :)
My arms are sore...so sore. My butt is sore from Friday, so I'm pretty much a staggering and hobbling broken lady. HA! I love it :)

90 minute biking class in the kickr lab
AM boxing class
PM 6:00 & 7:00 boxing classes
I'm in this stupid competition at the boxing gym and since I'm in first (or just barely in 2nd) I have to drag any friend I can with me to classes and attend them all! It is SO hard and I'm having crazy anxiety about it. I have to win! I'm too darn competitive to let it go. It is killing me though! Worse than any race I've ever done!!

| | No running again. Trying to save the shins for Thursday!
6AM boxing with Cyle
9:15 boxing with Cyle
Both times we did this exercise where you gently punch the other person in the gut for 30 seconds then switch (2X3:00 rounds). It wasn't bad, but since you have to flex the entire time it really was a crazy workout and I was SO sore the next couple days!!
6PM boxing class
7PM boxing class
gotta win...gotta win. Had 2 friends show up, so I'm in the lead, but by less than one class. So, if we both just show in the morning (last class) then I win, but if she has one friend and I have no one...she wins. Must. find. friends....

2 friends showed up! YIPEE!! I won a pair of boxing gloves that retail for $75! I'm feeling pretty cool right now.
BUT...the contest is OVER! I conceede any further contests to Peggy, I can't take this craziness.
Volleyball for about 45 minutes afterward.
Now to start my mini-taper for the race tomorrow.
