So glad to be back. My work has free passes to the rec center, it's a new year and my husband offered to tend while I worked out. Can't say no to that.
Warmed up .25 ran 1 walked .5 and ran another .5. Considering it's been almost a year since I last ran this was pretty good. I was slow but I still did it.
I think I'm going to run the Thanksgiving point half marathon April 30. We'll see. I also have a friend who lives in my same apartment complex that's going to be my gym buddy. That will def help. Glad to be back- FRB'ers! I've missed you. |

Ran on the inside track this morning at 5 (bleck). It's 6 times around the track to get a mile... which believe me get's pretty monotonous (spelling?) but it's a nice switch up from the treadmill.
Technically they were all slow miles. But I broke it up because I ran/jogged the 2 miles and walked the .5 |

I tried to run outside this morning like an idiot. I way underestimated how cold 15 degrees was. It hurt the worst on my face, I think I had enough layers everywhere else. Anyway, I cut the run shorter than I wanted to but I was dying. And thought my legs might have to get cut off from frostbite.

Crummy day. Could NOT sleep last night. And then I was so worried about not being able to fall asleep that it made falling asleep even more impossible. Then I had dreams about not being able to fall asleep. So I'm thinking I probably got like 4hours last night maybe.
When my alarm went off at 4:50 this morning I thought if I'm tired I'll tell Suzana I can't go. But no surprise I wasn't tired. Seriously I guess I can't ever take a Sunday nap again. It's ruined my life.
Then I got to the gym and my knees have been hurting on the insides of my legs. I brushed it off as soreness. So I warmed up on the TM for 5 minutes and then tried running and it felt like my legs were being stabbed. I couldn't run so I did the elliptical for 30 min on level 13-15. I was mad because I really wanted to run today.
Anyway, I think the problem with my knees is that my arches are bad. So tonight I'm hoping to get either new insoles or maybe new shoes. I want to run the half marathon April 30 so I really got to get going.
Of the 3 people that read this blog, any input on why my knees are hurting? Do you think it's arches? |

| 1.5 on elliptical and then 30 minute pilates class. I got new shoes last night and I think they will help a lot but my knees are still pissed so I took it easy again today. I really just want to run. I feel like if I'm going at the butt crack of dawn I should be running and working up a real sweat :). I work up a sweat doing the other things, I just always feel better after a run. I'll try tomorrow I guess! |

40 minute sculpting class again. I really like the girl who teaches it.
However, I'm frustrated. Seems like my knees are getting worse and now both ankles hurt too. I've been taking it easy only doing elliptical and classes... It's frustrating when your mind wants to do something and your body won't cooperate. I am getting up so early and going to the gym, I feel like I should atleast be able to run and get a good sweat in. And I still want to do the thanksgiving point half. this is the wierdest things. I guess my legs just loved not working out for the last year and now they're just trying to murder everyone. |

Tried running I was able to do a mile! I could feel my left knee and right ankle hurting- not as bad as they were but I still don't feel like I can just jump into it. My lower back is also super super sore, I think from Spin yesterday.

Warmed up, ran a mile in 8:30, walked a mile at 13 incline at 4.5 on treadmill and then ran another half mile to finish it off. I was a sweaty betty by the end of it. It was about 40 min of Cardio.
My knees and Ankle felt good today! Which makes me so glad. If I can run 3 on Saturday I'm going to start training for the Thanksgiving point half and maybe maybe maybe the SLC half. I figure I could use the SLC half as a training run and just go slow & easy.

I think I got a little too excited yesterday about how good my legs felt. I was ready to sign up for 5 half marathons.
Today I had plans to run 2 miles. Got to the end of one and my knee was hurting again. bummer. So I guess I'll cross train the next couple of days and try running again maybe on friday.

Last night we went to Cafe Paesan to get their amazing deal- buy a drink get a meal free. Can't beat that. I ate a big salad,it was yummy. But this morning during my workout, it felt like I had eaten the salad 10 minutes before I started rather than 10 hours before. wierd. Guess that italian food doesn't digest. Or maybe it's because I ate A LOT of it. Either way I wanted to throw up all over the instructor. |

I was/am really tired today. I went to bed at 9 and woke up at 7, you'd think I would feel great.
Warmed up, ran 2- this was not an easy task. It was hard today and my legs felt so tired. Then cooled down and walked to get me to 3 miles.
Then I went to an hour strength class- again so tired.
Then went outside and ran around the track once (1/2 mile) and walked around one more (1/2 mile).
So I ended with 4. It wasn't pretty or fast but I made it to 4 & that was my goal. This would be the first week of my half marathon training for Thanksgiving point and 4 was what I needed for my Saturday run. I'm just going to keep training for it and if I get to the point where the miles aren't so much walking I will sign up for it. |

Thought my legs would feel better since I hadn't used them since Wednesday. But it was the opposite effect. Ankles were hurting again like they did a month ago.
On a happier note, I went to the gym despite my gym buddy not going with me. I've done this a couple times now. It's an accomplishment because really I just want to go back to sleep when she cancels. |

Ran this hardly stopped once. However my ankles & feet feel broken still/again. The were really stiff at the beginning and it felt alright when I got warmed up. But then when I took my little break, my ankles freaked when I jumped back on and it took a second to get them calmed down. Then after I finished I could barely walk on them out of the gym. Why is my body sucking right now? Think I'll just do strenghth tomorrow and see how that goes.

My gym buddy is still sick. I totally underestimated how hard it would be going at 5 a.m. by myself. Wanted so much to sleep in again today. Glad I didn't.
Ankles felt okay today. Still hurt but not as bad as last Tuesday. Might sound silly but I'm actually going to switch my socks and see if that helps. When I bought my shoes I also got "special" running Asics socks. They're so cute & comfy but they're tight around my arch and ankle and other wierd parts of my foot that regular socks aren't. And all this ankle, foot business started with the new shoes/socks. So maybe this will help :) |

Lesson learned- Don't show up to the rec at 5:20 and think you will get a treadmill. You won't.
I don't know what's going on this week. Yesterday there were no bikes in Spin and today there were no treadmills. I did the ellipticlimber (that's what I call it. It's this wierd machine that's a mix between an eliptical and a stair climber, what's it really called?) for 15 minutes the whole time creeping the treadmills waiting for someone to get off. Once one became available I jumped on and did 2. And was late for work because of it.
A little after mile one I accidently hit the stop button so I had to start over. Isn't that just the worst?

Today there was always like 3 free treadmills. Unlike yesterday where everyone jumped when one would open up.
Warm up .25, ran 2, walked .4 then ran .8. Does that get me to 3.5? Close enough.
Ankles hurt this morning but they were fine while I was running. But then when I'm done running it feels like all the blood pools in my ankles and they start to swell and feel so tight and achy. That's normal right? :)
Oh and Merri, I think you'll especially appreciate this. I got pulled over on 400 South on my way home from the rec. One of my headlights is out, I was apparently going 10-12 over and I didn't use my blinker when I pulled on main street. I'm lucky I had my license because I don't take my purse to the gym. I had just pulled my license out like a week ago and I've been keeping it in my car just for an occasion like this. The copper was really nice and let me off with a warning. Maybe it's because I was still sweating profusely from my run and he felt bad for me. Oh and don't worry I just got the right headlight replaced like a week ago and now the left one is out. awesome. |

But I got about halfway around the track and realized I'd rather just run home. So that's what I did. Didn't have my garmin, so I don't know how fast or anything. But it felt so so good to run outside. Had to be home by 8:15 to get in the shower and go to Temp with hubs. On our way out of the Temple I spotted the Dr. who delivered Sophie. I would have said hi but I doubt he would remember me considering he wasn't really my dr, and we didn't meet until D day. |

| got to the gym late today, and I didn't really feel like running. But then I saw that there were no TM's and then I wanted to run :). Always want what you can't have. So I did Elliptical for 15 minutes and then one TM opened up so I ran a 1.5 in 12:40. That's all I had time for. I don't know why I always sleep in. I'm always mad when I get to the gym and only have five seconds there.
Got pulled over again this morning for my headlight. It was the same cop and he remembered me and he was super nice. Asked me all about my running and what I'm training for. Maybe I won't fix my headlight just so he and I can have our weekly visits.

| Ran 2 and 30 min Strength Class. Made it to the gym 10 minutes earlier today than yesterday. Now the goal is to get there 10 minutes earlier tomorrow. And by Friday maybe I can actually get there right at 5 so I can do 30 minutes of running and the strength class.
Took our other car today so I wouldn't have the headlight problem. And I was afraid I was going to run out of gas the whole way because who knows how long that gas light has been on. Husband loves driving it til the very end of the tank. Atleast I was close and knew I could run home if I had to.
I probably should have run outside today. It felt super nice out there. I just get scared because it's so dark and my neighbors are all such creepers.

Spin. Heavy Heavy Heavy hills today. The ceiling was raining our sweat. I do think that doing the bike rather than the elliptical is helping my back. I still feel it but not as much as I did before. I've been icing it lots too. Hopefully I'm on the mend! And then I'll never dare run again because I don't want it to happen again :) The thing that really stinks is that I had already registered for the Utah Valley Half June 11... So hopefully if I can start running again next week then I can catch back up. I don't expect to have a great time, but finishing and not losing the $50 would be great!

| Ran today! my back felt pretty good all weekend. I only did spin last week and I think that really helped a lot. I ran 2 and took it easy at 8:45 pace. I was pretty tired at the end but I guess I didn't lose too much endurance in these past 3.5 weeks of cross training.
At the end of my run I felt a little twinge in my back so I don't feel like I can really go crazy with running just yet but hopefully I'll be able to at least train and do semi well in the half-y on June 11.

I was going to sleep in a little until our crazy neighbor decided it was a good idea to blast music from her car right outside our window at 6 a.m. since I was up I got ready and ran 3.1 in 28:56. It was really really really cold outside. My hands were frostbitten.
Came home and went to get our Bountiful Basket. I'm impressed with how much came in it!
Then went to the Rec and ran another 3.1 on the treadmill in 27:33. Had to stop a couple of times because of a side ache, but other than that I felt pretty good.

Ideally I could run all my miles before the class. But the gym doesn't open up until 5 and the class starts at 5:30. I would have to be there at 5 on the dot and then still be a little late for the class to get 4 in. Oh well, I'll figure it out or keep doing what I'm doing I guess. And the class is Mon Wed Fri so I guess I need to adjust my sched so I do the bulk of my running on Tuesdays and Thursdays. and of Course Saturdays.
I also feel it is important to note that I left the gym with Burt level sweat drippings. I should have run 5 more miles to counteract all the crunk (crap+junk, not crazy+drunk) I ate this weekend. Bleh.

Gym Etiquette 101: About halfway through the first mile a girl came and got on the treadmill next to me and she was wearing so much smelly perfume and lotion. It was ridiculous I could barely breathe. And it makes me sick when I'm running to smell perfume. I don't even like it when my clothes are freshly washed and smell like a hint of laundry detergent. I'd rather smell my sweat :). Anyway- don't wear lotion/ perfume to go work out! It's unnessasary(spelling?) and rude to the people around you, especially so early in the morning. yuck. Then half hour strength class afterward.

Other than the cold cold rain and starting 25 minutes late and the HUGE hills, this was a good race :). Maybe not my favorite course but still fun and you can't beat free! Merri was there, met Allie (don't be too jealous Burt), and my neighbor Lyndsey came with me.
This was my first post-baby race, my 2011 debut! And it went great. That's one of my faster times, not a PR, but still fast for me. I'm happy with it. It was also about .2 short according to my watch.
My legs and feet were really cold at first and it took a while for those to warm up but once they did I felt good. I wished I hadn't had so many layers on about halfway but since I only had about a mile left I decided against ditching them.
I forgot to stop my watch at the end. Idiot. The clock at the finish said 25:17 but when I look at the breakdown of my garmin I slowed way down at 25:05 so I'm going with 25:05, unless the official results post as faster than that, then I'll go with those :)

I ran this race back in 2008, but the course was a little different then, it still had the huge cemetary hill, but ended like right after that hill. And it also ended like a mile from where it started so you had to walk back to your car after you ran the race. I remember it raining that day too... guess that's just what it does on Memorial Day. |

Blaming it on the fact that my dinner last night consisted of an entire box of mike and Ike's and chips. Merri this is what happens to me when you don't come over.
1/2 marathon next week! my goal is just to finish. I really didn't know how soon I'd be back to running after the babe, so finishing will be the biggest accomplishment. I don't think I'll beat my previous time of 1:54 and that is okay.
It's been hard to train for this due to the fact that I work at 7 a.m. and my husband works nights so weekdays I have to go in time to be home at 6 to get ready for work. It's hard to fit in all the miles before 6. I think this may be my last half for a little while. Except for maybe RHPC! I want to focus more on 5k's and 10k's. Mostly 5k's though. I think I could shave a lot of time of my PR |

Getting nervous but mostly feeling okay about Saturday's Race. I've been feeling kind of bad that my time won't be as well as my last 1/2. I did Hobble Creek 2 years ago in 1:56. And as I've looked at my pace and runs from 2009 I know I'm not at the same level I was then.
But I have to remind myself that at the beginning of this year I was at fitness level zero. I didn't work out for almost exactly 1 year because of Pregnancy and having the baby. We're talking zero physical activity, really. So it feels pretty good that in 6 months I've gone from zero to running a 1/2. So maybe my time won't be as good as Hobble Creek, but I think finishing a 1/2 in only 6 months of exercise and a lot of random aches and pains is pretty good.
So my goal for this race is to finish around 2 hours. I think I'll take a gu at mile 4 and mile 7. My other goal is to just keep running. Whether it's a slow jog or a run I don't want to walk as much as I did at Hobble Creek. That alone should help my time.
I think I'll use this run to just see where I'm at and then I have the whole summer to improve my time if I choose to do another half. |

This was seriously the best race. So well organized, from the packet pick up to the bus transportation to the race actually starting on time. Much better than my experience with Hobble Creek Half.
Refer to yesterday's post to see what I expected from this race. Pretty much I expected nothing, I just wanted to finish. And sometimes you just surprise your self and I am very surprised and very happy with how well it went!
Met the bus at 4 and got on right away. They had lots of fires at the start to keep warm which was awesome. Made some friends while I waited, went potty and got to the starting line just as it was starting- on time! There were so many people there. Someone said 2500 for the half. I've never been in a race so big. It was fun to be around so many people. I started toward the back and it was also nice to pass people instead of always being passed.
I loved watching and passing the pacers too. Passed the 2:20 guy, then the 2:05 guy, then 2:00 girl, then the 1:55 guy.
Took 3 Cliff block shots at mile 4. Those things are the best. Way better than the liquid GU. They helped a ton too. And every 2 miles there was gatorade, water, bananas and oranges. That was so nice too. I know one of the reason's this race went so well is because I kept hydrated and kept eating. I would have a bite or 2 of banana at every 2 miles. I got a GU liquid at mile 6 and took that at mile 8. Then finished off my cliff shots at mile 10. So this race was definitely aided, and it definitely helped.
I realized at about mile 6 that not only could I beat my Hobble Creek Time but I could crush it. I think shaving off 3 minutes counts as crushing it :). And I would have been able to cut off more but at mile 11 I was getting these crazy stomach pains, felt like a charly horse on my abs so I had to walk a little there. Otherwise, I didn't walk at all.
I'm so happy. I honestly was hoping for 2:05. This was the best course, best weather, best aid stations, best best best. I'm sad we won't be living here next year because I would do this race every year.
Didn't see anybody I knew from the blog- bummer. RAD, hope you rocked the Marathon! My baby hated the finish line so we didn't get to stay and hang out like I wanted. I had wanted a free massage too but baby was seriously flipping out. She hates marathons.

I am capable of running still. It's a miracle. It was slow and I regretted wearing my long sleeve shirt but oh well. I had left my ipod at work yesterday so I had to use my husbands this morning and it was nice to have a new arrangement of songs. I listen to the same mix in the exact same order every other day. PS Anybody out there drink protein shakes? What's a good one for female runners? I don't want to bulk up and I don't want one that is too heavy or that tastes gross. I used to drink one from GNC but I threw it up once and I can't ever drink it again. |

| As always the RHPC half did not disapoint! I have not been training good enough to do a half so I did 8 with my friend chelsy who is training for a half in August. We ran 4 up and 4 back down. And I was able to run the first 4 up with Merri. I know I was holding her back a little but I'm glad she ran with me. it was nice having her to talk to. Especially when I discovered on the way down that my ipod was dead. crap! Glad to run with Chelsy too. She kept my pace up at the end. ACK! Why didn't I run again.
I've been having dilemmas when my alarm goes off at 5 each morning. It used to be semi light out there but now it's gotten to where it's still super dark. And I get scared running in the dark and so I convince myself to go back to sleep. (which doesn't take too much convincing). But I guess if I'm going to get kidnapped it could happen when it's dark or light outside right? So I gotta stop being such a sissy.
Also, I need to sign up for another half. It seems to be the only thing to keep me motivated.

AP 8:12 on the TM. 1% incline. This is fast for me. It was lik 24:48 or something like that for 3. I'm going to try and get faster. I would like to be able to run Save a Sister 5k in under 24. That would be a PR. I originally wanted to do the 10k, but I think I can PR a 5k but don't know if I can a 10k. we'll see. |

| 4 miles on the TM. 2 miles in 16:28 then hit 3 miles at 24:21. Do you know what that means? It means my 3rd mile was faster than 8 minutes. Hoorah! Hit 5k at 25:05 Then rounded off at 4 with more of a 8:30 mph. Sweaty betty after that. I had debated not running when I made it to the rec this morning and all the treadmills were full, but I waited about 30 seconds and one opened up. And it was even one of the brand new treadmills. Love that. Speaking of new treadmills they need more. Remember how a the rec was just barely closed for 2 weeks for maintenance? Well 3 TM's and like 5 bikes are already out of service because they don't work. Lame. |

I did this little fun run 2 years ago too. It's a fundraiser for the MVHS swim team. So it's not in the slightest official. It starts at the rec so I ran there this morning and on the way I came across another race going on. I thought I must have missed mine. Turns out it was the Racing for Cane race. I did not know that race was right by my house or I would have done it instead. They had cool shirts! Oh well.
Anyway, I didn't have any plans for this 5k. Mostly Iknew I needed to do 6 today and this was a good way to get 3.1 out of the way. I was however disappointed in the time they said when I got to the finish line. 26:28. Oh well, I wasn't racing it at all. And I don't know how accurate that # is since it was just being timed with a stop watch. At any rate I then ran home to get my 6 in.

It's a christmas Miracle! I made it back to the gym. This is gonna sound crazy, but if FRB isn't the place to sound crazy, where is? Sometimes when I haven't been to the gym for a long time I don't want to go back because I know my workout clothes won't fit good and they'll be all pinchy on my fat and I don't like it. Dumb huh. I need to get to the gym to get the clothes fitting better but I don't want to go because the clothes don't fit. Hm. Quite the dilemma.
Ran 3 in 24:51, 3.1 in 25:43... so maybe I can still PR at save a sister in 2 weeks. We shall see.
Then 1 hour of bootcamp after my fun. Tired jello arms now. |

| 5 k in 26 something pushing the jogger. It was an even heavier jogger than usual because my sister (not Merri) put her big camera and camera bag in my stroller. Really regretted that on the run but it was okay. I just know I would have been way faster without the stroller. Maybe a PR. Oh well you win some, you lose some.
