Got up early with Laureen and did the Highland Glen loop. It was dark and kind of icy in a few places, but overall, conditions were pretty decent. We did run into a cold pocket of air north of the high school that made the fingers numb and gave us the kind of brain freeze that you get from eating ice cream too fast. It felt good to get out and have some time to talk.

Easy run this morning in the dark and cold. Left the house around 6:00 a.m. when the temperature was 17 degrees. I had dressed for the occasion, so I was quite comfortable, especially once I started running. Legs felt good and I could keep up a decent pace without any real distress. I've been running more than I've been blogging, so I need to go back and enter my information in. I'm ready to get serious again after a nice physical and mental rest. My wife, daughter and I are going to try to get ready for the Spectrum 5/10K in March.

After a lousy night's sleep and with a day packed with meetings, I opted for a quick run on the treadmill this morning. I was a little slow getting started, but was able to crank it up to 8 mph by the end. No aches or pains to speak of.

Trying to ease back into a good running schedule after almost two weeks of being sick. I don't know if it was the flu since we all had our flu shots, but I was that sick (fever, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, achy joints, general fatigue, lung congestion, coughing and sore throat). I still have a bit of a cough, but I'm feeling pretty much back to normal at this point. I need to get signed up for the Spectrum 10K as that is coming up pretty fast, but I'll probably be in even worse shape than last year (when I could only manage just under eight minute pace). I'm scheduled to donate blood this Friday, but they may not want it since I've been sick. Usually, after I donate it takes about a month before I'm running at full strength.

A nice warm (relatively), overcast afternoon. Felt good so I felt like I needed to go longer than I have for a while. Chest got kind of tight a few times so I had to stop and walk, but outside of that and a bit of soreness in my ankles, it went fairly well. No lingering issues afterwards.

It's good to see you back running. I'm glad you're feeling better. Did you get signed up for Spectrum? If not, I'd do it sooner rather than later. I think the race fills up every year. Is Laureen also running Spectrum? Are you taking the family down?

I've still got quite a bit of congestion in my chest which means I have to stop and walk occasionally, but over all I'm feeling pretty good and am anxious to get back in to regular training. It was a nice, warm morning for this time of year and hour of the day (6:00 a.m.)

Went out early and ran on the trail behind the high school which is closed and ripped up for a construction project. We were curious and just had to see what they were doing. They're laying pipe, but we couldn't figure out where it was coming from or where it was going.

Laureen, Amelia and I went out for a run at noon. It was pleasant, maybe a little on the cool side starting out. As we approached the mouth of American Fork Canyon the wind picked up and the snow started and it turned quite cold. The wind was in our face as we ran east and was still in our face as we turned south going up the hill. It was kind of miserable for a while until we got down closer to the houses that provided a bit of wind break. Turning to the west with the wind behind us, it wasn't so bad. All in all, a good outing.

Got the whole family out for a run/walk today! It was a beautiful, warm, Spring day. We followed the trail along the creek that was flowing with water and then headed down to the road they're putting through north of the high school. Things were pretty torn up, but most of the pipes were in. They sometimes get mad at you if you go through their construction zone, so when we saw one of their supervisors heading our way we veered off through the baseball field and behind the track and had to climb over a chain link fence. We had a good laugh about our escape. We then went around the pond in Highland Glen park and then stopped by the WalMart Subway for sandwiches and an Icee. As the girls and my wife were going to the YW Broadcast at our stake center (where they were serving dinner beforehand), we decided to just have our own picnic in the park. A very nice outing all around.

Didn't recognize that it was Greg W. until he was almost past me. As I rounded the pond and was heading out the park I decided to run the last loop backwards from what I usually do to see if Greg was there. Sure enough I found him and we ran the last couple of miles together.

My watch wasn't charged up so I left it home, but I started around 7 am and covered a little over ten miles (I've run this course many times in the past, but I don't remember exactly how far it is). I ran at a comfortable pace and never felt any significant pain or distress, although I seemed to have a little bit of an upset stomach about seven miles in. Ran the Golf Course Loop this morning. Temperature at 6:00 a.m. was around 60. Kind of took it easy until I got to the mouth of AF Canyon. As I started up the big hill on Canyon Road I noticed another runner on the other side of the road. He was just a little ahead of me so I naturally started pushing the pace to catch him. He seemed to know that I was right behind him as he seemed to speed up as well. As we got to the top of the hill I was about the same distance behind. As we started down the hill I started to close the distance and within about a quarter of a mile I'd caught up with him (he had crossed the road in the meantime). As I pulled even with him he pulled out his earphones and we chatted for a minute. I asked him if he was training for any races and he answered that he was getting ready for the Wasatch Back. I told him I was as well (in fact, I had chosen the course we were running to simulate conditions for my second leg) and mentioned the long downhill leg I'd be running. He got a surprised look on his face and asked if I was runner #1. When I answered yes, he said he was as well. We didn't have much longer to chat at that point as he was turning off for home (he said he was finishing up an eight mile run that had taken him up the canyon). I continued on down the road and turned at the stake center to continue down 40th. A good run over all. No real aches or pains. I was a bit dry at the end as it was an unusally warm morning.

I've been meaning to get everything caught up on the blog. I've got all the data, I just need to get it in. I get out just about every day with the family, but I also need to start getting out for a harder and longer run each morning. I thought I'd starting blogging my runs again as I'm changing jobs and will no longer be working from home starting in January. I'll really miss the noon runs with my wife. We get out just about every day and frequently work out with weights afterwards. I'm looking forward to doing more races this coming year.
