Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

5:30am...solo run up Iron Rim and back on a very nice morning (no wind, just a bit cool).  47 minutes up, 37 minutes back down for a total of 12 miles in 1:24.  Saw several other runners and bikers on the hill (including Alana and Gama) Nice run, except for 2 pitstops and some rude and less than encouraging comments from another runner.  (Boost)

3 miles with Justin easy through the neighborhood.  Wore the Vibram for the first time in a while.  (Vibram)

Out for a 50+ mile bike ride with Kami on the rollers through Osgood and home on a very nice day, even a bit warm on the way back.  Man, that kicked my butt...and Kami does 2 of these consecutively for her sport!  She is a strong rider and she dropped me hard the last 5 miles.  Now I am starving!

Skipped the run this evening after work and went to the game where we watched the Tigers whomp the Rays, 10-1.  Great cheap seats in right field and nearly got the ball that Prince Fielder hit out!

Slept in this morning, will go out after work probably back at the Clinton River Trail.

9 miles in 1:05.  Meetings ended earlier than expected and got out for a nice run in the late afternoon.  Great day to run on the Clinton River Park Trail, except for all the cotton in the air (in my eyes and sucked a few down too!).  Free beer and dinner at the hotel tonight!  (Mirage)

Early meetings tomorrow then flying home so likely no run tomorrow.  That's ok, my normal day off before a marathon.

Quick report...2nd overall in 2:47:28 behind Ryan Jones (recent BYU grad and XC/track runner - 3:51 in the 1500m in May!).  Running together with Ryan thru 16 miles at about a 6:15ish pace, then 2 pitstops due to GI issues caused me to fall back and never catch up, behind Ryan by about 3 minutes.  Overall happy with the time on a hard course and was on track for a 2:44ish finish before the GI issues.  I used 3 PowerBar Gels during the race for fueling, nice to promote and use their products! A nice day for a run!  I wore the Adiddas Boost...not sure these are my marathon shoes as I developed a hot spot around mile 8 that lasted to the end of the race.  (Boost)

No lunch run, busy with meetings.  No evening run as we were hosting the Murphy's on their travel through IF.

I was SAG support for my wife during her Spinderella Century ride in Pocatello today.  Got up early and got her down to the ride with her friends.

I ran the whole run on various portions of Marsh Valley Road in between meeting Kami at the stops to grab gear and ensure she was doing good.  End up running in 3 sections:  2 miles, 7 miles, 7 miles.  The total time of the run was 1:45 for a 6:33 average. A couple of slower miles then most at decent MP.    Even raced a few ladies up a hill on the course...and won!  Kami and her friends did great...she is now asleep on the couch!  (Cortana)

10K in 46 minutes at lunch on a beautiful day.  First mile really easy then into an easy cruise pace around 7-7:15 for the rest of the run.  Left hammy a bit tight during the run so I didn't push it at all.  (Cortana)

Feeling old and like a total wimp. I didn't get up this morning and skipped the run.  My left leg (knee, hammy) were both a little twingy and so I gave into the doubt and did not want a repeat of yesterday's run.  I will try to go hard at lunch if time allows.

Meetings ran late but I was still able to get out for a short run.  4 miles in 25:13 (6:18 avg) on a very hot (86 degrees, full sun and no wind) early afternoon run.  Now sitting at my desk trying to cool down!  (Cortana)

No run after work.  Dinner with the family then a couple of beers with Gray, Kari and Suzie the New Balance rep.

I ran the To Bone and Back 40 mile relay as a two person team with Lynette (a Master's team).  8 legs total.

I ran the uphill leg to the dump at the top of the hill (leg 2) in 37:19, my fastest time ever on that segment...1350 feet elevation gain in 5 miles.

I ran leg 4 into Bone with some good rollers and a big uphill in mile 4 in 32:48.

We changed the plan up and Lynette ran the next 10 miles up to the top of the big hill, and I ran the last 10 miles back down the hill and the last 5 into the finish line.  Leg 7 in 27:40 (including a quick pitstop), leg 8 in 31:03.  Last 10 miles in 58:43.  Total time for our team was 4:35, second to Gray and Tim at 3:57 and an eight person high school team at 4:33.  Thanks to my supply of PowerBar stuff (gels, Power Energy Gel Blasts) we had a good deal of fuel in the car!

Lynette and I beat the time of her and Tim from last year...just barely!

The race organizers changed the definition of Masters to 50 because that is the age of the youngest person on their team.  And I quote..."it is our race and we can do whatever we want".  So, in order to ensure they won, they changed the rules...because Lynette and I kicked their butts by about an hour!  I did win and IPod shuffle at the raffle drawing though, cool since I lost mine this winter at the gym.

Good day of running with good friends.  Nice to see so many other friends and runners out today for this event.

Now for some rest and a BBQ tonight! (Boost)
