Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

I ran the To Bone and Back 40 mile relay as a two person team with Lynette (a Master's team).  8 legs total.

I ran the uphill leg to the dump at the top of the hill (leg 2) in 37:19, my fastest time ever on that segment...1350 feet elevation gain in 5 miles.

I ran leg 4 into Bone with some good rollers and a big uphill in mile 4 in 32:48.

We changed the plan up and Lynette ran the next 10 miles up to the top of the big hill, and I ran the last 10 miles back down the hill and the last 5 into the finish line.  Leg 7 in 27:40 (including a quick pitstop), leg 8 in 31:03.  Last 10 miles in 58:43.  Total time for our team was 4:35, second to Gray and Tim at 3:57 and an eight person high school team at 4:33.  Thanks to my supply of PowerBar stuff (gels, Power Energy Gel Blasts) we had a good deal of fuel in the car!

Lynette and I beat the time of her and Tim from last year...just barely!

The race organizers changed the definition of Masters to 50 because that is the age of the youngest person on their team.  And I quote..."it is our race and we can do whatever we want".  So, in order to ensure they won, they changed the rules...because Lynette and I kicked their butts by about an hour!  I did win and IPod shuffle at the raffle drawing though, cool since I lost mine this winter at the gym.

Good day of running with good friends.  Nice to see so many other friends and runners out today for this event.

Now for some rest and a BBQ tonight! (Boost)

"I ran the uphill to the dump". This does not make me want to run this race :-).

Nice race to both of you. I recommend a cold pale ale along with the BBQ.

Congrats! Yeah, can't say running uphill to the dump would be my leg of choice.

You looked GREAT when I saw you on the course. Awesome, strong running today!!

That race sounds like fun. I will have to try it some time. Have you ever ran the whole thing solo?

From jtshad on Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 05:44:33 from 69.20.183.178

Ryan, I nearly ran the ultra solo a couple of times but both times ran into family conflicts. The last two years the local running store sponsored a couple of fast 2 person teams that I ran on instead. This is pretty tough 40 miles (not to an experienced ultra person, like Jon).

From Jon on Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 06:21:37 from 173.10.250.121

Ay race is tough if you run it hard enough. Especially an ultra on roads.

Good job to you and Lynette, Jeff. That would have been awesome if you had run down the high school relay team! Kinda lame about the Masters category change, though. But sounds like a fun time all around.

Congrats on a fast time Jeff. You guys were flying out there. So lame about the masters division. You guys were impressive!

From Carina on Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 07:24:19 from 204.15.86.83

You need to organize your own race and have whatever rules are required for you to win. LAME!! Great job, you deserved to win :)

And to think...these last 9 years I wasn't "really" a Masters runner. What a dumb move by them. NICE JOB to you and Lynette!!!

From steve ash on Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 09:57:44 from 64.134.236.155

That was kind of petty of them just like a group of school kids on a playground.. Oh well the important thing is you had a heck of a race and congrats to you and your wife for such a strong performance.

From shellberns on Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 13:18:51 from 174.126.52.90

Such a spectacular performance, Jeff! You and Lynette are very talented runners and deserved the masters win. That is such a difficult course so congrats and sorry about the very short sided rule change from the race organizers!
