"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka
"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

| | Peaceful, quiet, slow Sunday. Food shopping, chores around the house and yard. Took the dogs for a short hike in the hills and got out of the inversion for a bit. It's sunny and warm up there. |

9.3 miles / EZ Commute run in to work. Hard to believe it's December. Felt like Spring out there this morning. Gotta run home later.
(4 1/2 hour break, during which I eat a bowl of oatmeal, 3 slices of pepperoni pizza, and a shot of Emergen-c right before the run back.) 10.3 miles / 8:52 avg. (better than this morning). Running in shorts and short sleeves in mid December...yeah... WT 56.3 miles

| | 4.2 miles of recovery on the fire break road with the young' un / 10:32 avg. On today's run I thought about how delusional it probably is of me to think I could run a 100 miler like the Wasatch 100. I'm thinking I'll give it another year and focus on completing another 50k, and perhaps try a 50 miler and 100k in 2011. If training goes really well this summer, I might consider running the Pony Express 100 miler in the fall. A relatively flat course. But yeah, I need more miles behind me, more strength, and more experience before tackling the mountain 100 milers. Fortunately I live in a place where I can run from my door and onto the Wasatch 100 course most of the year. I hope to take advantage of this often. MT101 performance review: GRIPPY. WT 60.5 miles

| | 16 miles. Commute run home after a short day at work. Overcast, a little sun here and there, a light mist/drizzle now and then, lots of slush afoot, 35+ degrees. Perfect. 8:55 avg. This week I Favred a couple of old pairs of speedstar 3's. They performed well. Very satisfying to know I can still use them considering they were mere moments from being tossed in the dog toy bin last Spring. WT (an ominous) 66.6 miles

WT 47.4 miles Happy New Year! I set my mileage goal at 2,500, which was less than what I had run in 2009, because I felt so wiped out in 2009 (my first full year of consistent running). I ended up running only 75 miles less this year than last, but I never felt the overwhelming fatigue that I did in 2009. This tells me that I'm stronger, my mileage base is good, not too many miles, but enough to improve on as evidenced by my PR's this year. Also, 2010's miles were spread out more evenly. I feel confident that I can run 3,000 miles in 2011 without hurting myself, though I expect it to be challenging in terms of time commitment and keeping a higher mileage week. I'm look forward to enjoying some more over-long training runs in 2011 as I continue the delusion that I'll be able to run a 100 miler someday.
