I am 15 years old. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I come from a family of 11 children. I enjoy biking, chess,  and Rubik's cubes. I have been running since I was 2. My Dad created this blog.

Ran 7 miles today, all in the morning. First I ran 2 miles with Dad, MoMo, and JoJo in about 15:53. Then JoJo, Dad and I ran 5 miles up the canyon to retrieve the car. My back wasn't hurting very much. We ran 39:27 I think.

Ran the usual Saturday run. 2x2 miles at a little under 6:00. I ran with Chad, JoJo, and Dad. Stevie and William ran the first 1200 with us, Stevie barely broke 4:30, if he hadn't he would've had to run an extra mile. Bonnie made it to the mile in a little over 6:00 with us. I felt very relaxed, and it wasn't a whole lot harder than a normal run. I ran 11:53 with Chad, and Dad and JoJo ran 11:57. In the next interval JoJo paced. Our first mile was somewhere around 5:55. It was harder than the last interval, but I still felt pretty good. Our time was 11:54 I think. Whenever I do these workouts I want to go faster, but JoJo has a hard time so I usually stay back. Later, MoMo was baptized by JoJo. It was JoJo's 16th birthday, so he had been ordained a priest the day before. Stevie and I got to be the witnesses. MoMo's toe popped out of the water the first time, so JoJo had to baptize him again.

7 miles today. First I ran 3 miles with all my brothers Dad and Julia. Then I ran 4 more with Benjamin, JoJo and Dad. William ran the first mile then turned around and ran home. We went ahead of Dad and William, the when William turned around, Dad caught up. We are going to St. George today.

Similar run to yesterday, except on a trial in St. George. It was warm and really nice there. I ran three miles with Dad, Julia, and all ny brothers. The trial was pretty good. We played a game where no one was allowed to pass Julia, if you did you got smacked(lightly). After that we ran a mile with Stevie, then another with William and then 2 more miles.

Today we all ran a fast mile in St. George. It was warm, first we measured out a mile. We made marks every 100 meters using the red dirt/chalk. Then JoJo and I ran back to the start. Benjamin paced JoJo and I for the fast mile, William was spaced by Dad and had a 30 second headstart. I ran without the watch so I wouldn't panic or anything. Our first quarter was 76, I felt pretty good. The next one was 78. If I had been wearing a watch, I probably would have freaked out, but I felt like we had held the same pace. The third quarter was 77, this felt a bit harder, but I didn't feel terrible. In the last quarter we passed William and Benjamin said I could get the record if I kicked. When I started kicking JoJo fell back a little. My last quarter was 76. I ran 5:07, which is a 5 second PR. JoJo ran 5:10, just missed his record. I think my time was a bit faster than at home because of the lower elevation, but not by much. I haven't really improved very much since I was 11 in the mile. Almost 3 years ago I ran 5:16 on the track, but I can't seem to get much faster than that. My 5K has improved by almost a minute. I guess I still just have some mental block against the mile. Anyway, it was a good time, and I'm pretty happy with it.

7 easy miles today. I wasn't feeling sore or anything from yesterday's mile. I felt a little sluggish for the first few miles, but after I warmed up I felt great.

7 miles today. First I ran 3 miles with Dad and Benjamin pushing the strollers, Bella and Leigha in one, MiMi in the other. MiMi ran the first mile and a half in under 13:00. All the boys stayed with her, but Mom and Julia fell back. Then we ran home, Bella wanted to earn a prize so she ran part of it with us, then she tripped so Mom took her. Benjamin, William, Stevie, and I sped up to a little under 7:00. William and Stevie dropped back after a while, but I stayed with Benjamin. Then I ran 4 more miles with Dad, JoJo, and Benjamin. We did a fast last 800. The goal was 3:00, JoJo and I ran 2:47, Dad ran 2:53. We started kicking on the hill and Dad couldn't keep up. I felt good during the pickup.

Usual Saturday run today. 2x2 tempo run. Bonnie, Stevie, and MoMo ran the first mile with us. Stevie and MoMo fell behind a little though. Bonnie made it in 5:59. I was feeling good. William fell behind at 1.5 or so. JoJo, Dad, Chad, and I ran 12:00 flat. I felt pretty relaxed. In the next interval, JoJo was having a hard time and fell behind after a half mile. I took the lead and picked up the pace a little. We had 5:53 at the mile. I sped up a bit more after that to 84, 85. My last 400 was 81. Chad and Dad were a little behind me, 5:31 last mile. I felt good running that pace.

I ran 1200 on the track today. Benjamin was pacing JoJo and I. I ran without a watch. Our first lap was 74, JoJo was having a hard time with his knee and also had a sideache. Our next lap was 75, it felt hard but I was still doing okay. Our last lap was 74, this was definetly pretty hard and I don't think I could have kept going to the mile. But my legs didn't really hurt, they just felt heavy. I think my lungs are behind my legs, so I'm not getting enough oxygen to fuel them. I'm pretty happy that I was able to run 5:00 pace for three laps. Afterwards I ran home and added a mile with Stevie, then 2 more by myself.

I helped pace William in the 1200 today. His target was 84's to failure. We ran the first 800 on pace but then faltered a little, so he stopped at 1200 with 4:15. I felt pretty tired from yesterday. When we were done I ran home and added 4 miles wih Dad and JoJo. We went pretty slow, Dad had us pull him to a 35 in the 200.

Usual Saturday run today. 2x2 miles with Dad, JoJo, and Chad. William and Bonnie ran the first mile in the first interval. It was snowy so we couldn't see the starting mark. We just guessed where it was. Our first mile was 6:03, then we speed up and ran 5:46 for the last mile. Our next interval was 11:59. I felt more worn out than last time. It's probably a combination of running on the snow and maybe some fatigue from the 1200 on Thursday.

We ran a tempo run with Julia today. Her target was 2 miles at 7:00 per mile. Our first mile was 6:49 and our second was somewhere aorund 6:55. She ran a good time. Afterwards, Dad, JoJo, Benjamin and I ran home. We did a fast last half mile in 2:43. I felt pretty good, but I was tired afterwards.

7 miles at once today. Mostly easy, but we did two 200 meter pickups. The first was 33 high. In th e next Dad told us to try and break 30. We ran 29.8 or so. Myleft ankle started hurting after that. It was injured last year, so I think it flared up again from doing to much sprinting and fast runnning.

JoJo and I ran a fast mile today. Our first lap was 74, we mentally didn't have it after that and stopped at 800 in 2:33. I felt really tired during it. Then I ran with MoMo and Stevie. They were doing 1200 but stopped at 800. MoMo tried again and ran 4:29, but Stevie didn't run.

Stevie was trying to redeem himself today. William also ran a fast 1200. Stevie got a headstart of 100 meters on William. I ran 4:10 with William, Stevie was with Dad. He stopped after 800. We decided to put Stevie in a pacing box, so he couldn't slow down.  It worked, he had a panic attack in the second lap, but he recovered and ran 4:30.

It was very snowy today. We couldn't do anything fast, so we just ran easy. First I ran 4 miles with Dad, JoJo, Bonnie, William, Stevie, and MoMo. Benjamin ran part of it with us. Then I ran 2 more miles with Dad, JoJo, Bonnie, William, and Benjamin. Then 2 more miles with Dad, JoJo, and Benjamin. I was pretty hungry and I felt kind of weak for the first 4 miles. But it wore off.

Workout on the track today. The goal was to run the first lap in 66, and the second in 80. JoJo and I ran with Benjamin pacing. Our first 200 was 33, which is on pace but it would've been better to run a 32. Then I ran 34.7 or so. I was pretty tired in the second 200. JoJo dropped back after that and Dad joined us. I kept the momentum going a little and ran 38 for the next 200. My legs and arms starting feeling really heavy in the last 200, but I still ran 40. My time was 2:26, which was the target time but I ran the wrong splits. My foot hurt a little, but it didn't really affect how I ran..

Two pickups today. First we did a fast mile. It felt pretty good. Target pace was 6:00. We were right on pace with 400 to go. Last 400 was 82. I ran with JoJo and Dad. Our time was 5:52. It was very snowy in the canyon today, so the only workout we could do was 6x800 up the hill near our house. JoJo, Chad, Dad, and I ran all of them. MoMo ran 2x0.25, Bonnie ran 5x0.25, Stevie ran 5x0.25 as well and William ran 2x0.5. Target pace was 3:00. We ran around 2:55 for most of them. In the 4th interval we slowed down for William a little, he ran 3:07. I was a little ahead. The 5th was also slower, 3:05 I think. I had a hard time warming up, I actually felt the best in the last interval. I could have gone faster in the last one but I held back so JoJo wouldn't get aggravated.

Light workout today. 2 miles down the canyon with JoJo and Dad. Target pace was 6:00. It was fairly snowy for part of it. The pace felt pretty hard. We weren't going very fast, but I was hungry and still tired from the workout on Thursday. I started panicking after about a mile. It just got worst after that. I was still running close to 6:00. But I was having a really hard time. JoJo pulled ahead and gapped me by around 10 seconds, Dad stayed with me. Part of the problem was that we had run 4 miles before the workout and gone straight into it. I need to work on not panicking when running feels harder than expected.

I ran a fast 500 on the track today. The goal was to run the first lap in 66 and then get to 500 in 1:25. Benjamin was done with his mileage so JoJo and I ran alone. Our first 200 was 32. Then Dad joined us. At 400 we had 66, our splits were pretty good. Then we kicked and ran 17. JoJo and I were pretty close. Our time was 1:23. Dad was a little behind.

600 on the track today. Benjamin paced me and JoJo. Dad and William ran the last 400. Our first 200 was 32, then we ran 34. Our target was 66 for the first lap and then 36 or so for the next 200. So this was right on pace. We ended up with 1:41.0. JoJo and I were pretty much tied. Dad was a couple seconds behind. William ran 77, so he was 8 seconds behind. It felt good to run fast. My muscles felt tired in the last 100, but I was able to push myself.

. My time was 11:47 JoJo and Dad were about ten seconds behind. It started snowing pretty hard during the next interval. It was pretty miserable. I barely broke 12:00. Chad was a little behind. Not sure how far behind Dad and JoJo were.

7 miles with a one mile pickup. I ran with Dad and JoJo. It was pretty clear with a couple snow and ice patches. The pickup went well. I paced for most of it. We ran 5:45. It felt good, but the ice slowed us down a little.

It was pretty warm today so we did a track workout. The goal was to run 800 meters with the frist lap in 68, and then 70 or so. Benjamin was pacing me and JoJo and Dad and William ran the first 400. We ran the first 200 in about 34. At 400 I had 70. Benjamin was a little ahead. I started fading after that. I'm not sure what I had at 600. In the last 200 I started kicking. Dad ran the last 100 with me. He ran 17.4 and I was dropping him. I probably ran about 17  for the last 100. My time was 2:23. Missed the record by a second. JoJo ran 2:27. He didn't have it today.

I had 11:59, William, Dad, JoJo, and Chad had 12:00. The next interval went well. Our first mile was 5:52, we were running even 88's. We slowed down a little in the next half mile. Then I sped up to about 80. JoJo caught up to me with about 500 to go. We ran 82 from 1.5 to 1.75. In the next 200 we ran 40, then I started kicking pretty hard and JoJo stayed with me. We ran 37 for the last 200. JoJo was a bit ahead. We ran 11:24. This is the fastest we have run in this workout. JoJo ran  really well.

Track workout today. JoJo and I paced ourselves for 800 meters. Dad ran the first lap and William ran the last. The goal was to run 68 and 70 or so. Our first 200 was 33. I felt pretty good, then we ran 35. We had 69 at 400. I'm not sure when, but JoJo started dropping back at some point. The next 200 was rather slow, 38 or so. I was feeling pretty tired at that point. Then with about 100 meters to go I started kicking pretty hard, I think I ran 16 low for the last 100. My time was 2:21.8, PR, JoJo ran 2:22, PR as well. I need to run the 3rd 200 better next time, but it was a good run.

We were going to do 6X800 today, but Dad had us stop after 2 intervals. Chad, JoJo, Dad and I ran the first interval in about 3:02. My muscles felt tired, especially on the uphills. Bonnie, Stevie, and MoMo ran the first quarter. William didn't run because he's a little sick. I ran the next interval in about 3:02 as well. JoJo was with me, but Dad and Chad were behind. Chad really faded. I did not feel good, my muscles hurt and I was having a hard time getting enough air. Dad has us stop after that. I jogged three more miles with JoJo. Something was off today, might of been the weather, might of been sickness or fatigue. It could have been a combination of all three. I hope I'll feel better next week.

Track workout today, 5X400 in 72 with a minute recovery. At least it was supposed to be a minute, we made the recoveries longer for most of them. The first one went well, JoJo and I ran 72, Dad ran 73, on the next interval JoJo didn't do so great, he fell back and was feeling pretty miserable. I ran 71.8. Dad ran 77 and had us do a 400 meter jog for our recovery. JoJo quit in the third interval and Dad ran the first 200. In the third and fourth I ran 71 highs, then in the last one I really pushed and ran 70 low. MoMo and Stevie ran some 200's. Stevie did all 5 and MoMo did 2 or 3. This workout wasn't easy but I felt strong and I was able to push through it.

Workout in the canyon today. 12X400 in 80 with a 200 meter recovery. JoJo, Dad, and I ran mostly 78's for the first 6 intervals. Chad ran 2 or so seconds ahead.My joints were feeling cranky and I was pretty tight but I warmed up by the 6th interval. For the next 4 intervals I would stay back for the first 300 and then kick in about 18 to catch Chad. In the 11th interval we slowed down to 80 to keep JoJo with us. In the last interval we really went all out. I ran 33 for the first 200, JoJo and Chad weren't far behind. Then Chad sped up a little and passed me, I passed him back and held him off by a bit. We ended up with 66, JoJo ran 69 and Dad ran 73. I'm happy I was able to kick so fast, usually I ran a lot slower in the second 200, but this time I was able to run even splits. Overall, I think it was a good workout.

Workout in the canyon today. 12X400 with a 200m revovery. Target pace was 80. I got a bloody nose a little before, and I didn't have any toilet paper or anything to stop it, but I was okay. I ran with JoJo, but he dropped out after 5 intervals beacuse his knee was hurting too bad. We ran 78,81,79,80,81 for the first five intervals, then JoJo dropped out. I got a little excited and ran 71 for the next 3 intervals. I ran about 35 for the first 200 and then 36 for the last 200 for those quarters. Then I ran 72, after that my stomauch started hurting really badly so I slowed down to 78. The next quarter was 81. In the last interval I wanted to break 70 so I started out in 16, I couldn't hold the pace though and finished in 73. It was a good workout. Musclewise the 71's didn't feel too bad. It was a little hard on my lungs though.

But we couldn't hold pace, I ran 11:04 and JoJo had 11:03. Got to work on the last mile. My legs actually didn't hurt afterwards, so I think the problem is mental as well as in my lungs. There was also a headwind, so that slowed us down by about 10 seconds. I'm glad JoJo was able to finish. Hopefully next time I can go under 11:00. My record is 10:39 and that was set a while ago, so I should be able to go at least 20 seconds faster.

Race on the track today. I thought only Roadrunners would show up but there were some Racecats to. I ran 3 miles in the morning with Dad and JoJo, the race started at 4:30. It was a 1600 which I've actually never done before, I've always run the mile. Their was about 20 people running. I got a little boxed in for the first 100 meters, but I did some manuevering and made my way to the front. JoJo and I were trying to run 75 for the first lap and then hold that pace until we couldn't. Our first 200 was 37, right on pace. At 400 we had 75. It actually felt really easy. JoJo took over the lead and slowed the pace ddown a little. I think we ran 38 or so. I still felt good, but I was starting to get a little tired. Cole Jamison was running around 72's(his dad was pacing him) so he was about 8 seconds ahead at 600. At 2 laps we had 2:33, so we slowed the pace down to 78. I think I took off after that, JoJo might have been behind me. Whenever I run races my memory is kind of hazy. The next lap was 77, I rarely speed up in the third lap, so that was good. The next 300 didn't go so well, I ran 1:00. I was tired and didn't feel like going faster. I had 4:50 at 1500. Luckily I had a pretty good kick, I ran 17 high and finished with 5:08.0. Cole ran 4:48, JoJo ran 5:10, Sam was 4th in 5:13 and Logan Rohtankisky(I don't think I spelled that right) was 5th. I think he's only like 12, so he's pretty fast. After the race I jogged 2 laps. They were doing 4x400, so I decided to do it just for fun. My brothers JoJo, William, and Stevie were my teammates. Stevie ram the first leg in 78, I don't know what William ran, I started out pretty fast, got a bit excited and ran a 15, then my legs started hurting and I slowed down to a 17, I slowed down even more in the third 100 and ran like 19, then I kicked and just barely caught 2nd place. I ran 66. JoJo ran the final leg, but he just barely got outkicked by Jane. Our team ran 4:48. We got 3rd place.

Workout in the canyon today, 4 miles at 6:00 pace. I ran with Dad and JoJo. We ran a 1.5 warmup before we started. It was a bit cold at the start.I paced the whole way. The first mile was 6:00. I had a hard time running even splits, we ran 92,88 for the first 800. After that I settled in to the pace more. Our second mile was 5:56, I started to get a bit of a sideache at 1.75, but it mostly went anyway. The third mile was 5:54, JoJo started struggling a little. The last mile was pretty tough for him, but we managed 6:00. Our time was 23:50. Dad said this felt a lot easier than on Wednesday. I had a bit of side and chest pain, but my legs felt good. I'm happy I was able to hold pace the whole time, especially while leading.

I ran MoMo, Stevie, and WIlliams workout with them today. Dad and JoJo ran with them as well. MoMo and Stevie were doing 4x400 in 86 and William was doing 8x400 in 86. The recovery was 200 meters. We ran on the track. The first four intervals were each a little under 85. Then MoMo and Stevie stopped. We ran 83s and 84s for the next 3. We ran pretty uneven splits, starting in 40 or 41 and then slowing down to 42 or 43. On the last interval we were trying to break 80. We ran the first 200 in 40 then William started to fade. He ended up with 84. This workout felt pretty easy, nothing hurt.

Our first 400 was a bit slow, 84. Then we ran 81. We ran the next 800 in 2:44 and had 5:29 at the mile. I felt good, my legs and lungs were very relaxed and I felt good. We ran the next 3 quarters in about 82. Dad slowed down to a little slower than 6:00 after 2000. At 400 to go we had 9:35. I kicked in the last 400 and ran 75. My time was 10:49. I felt really strong in the last 400. JoJo and Benjamin were a bit behind with 10:54.

Workout in the canyon today. 12x400 with a target of 80 and a 200 meter recovery. We woke up early for General Conference. JoJo and I ran the first 6 by ourselves. We ran 79's and 78's for most of them. I was feeling a little stiff and tight, but the pace was pretty easy. After 400 number 6 we took a quick bathroom break and Dad and Chad joined us. We mostly kept pace for the next 5 intervals, never going slower than 80 or much faster than 77. In the last 400 I went totally all out. I started out in 15, then I ran 14! Not only is this almost my record, but it was the second 100. I somehow kept my momentum in the third 100 and ran another 14. I was going so fast that my vision was shaking. At 300 I had 43, I realized I just had to run 17 to get 60. My last 100 was 16. I ran about 59.6. First time under 60! Chad ran 67, and Dad was maybe 5 seconds behind. JoJo ran 80. I'm really happy I ran that time. Especially in the last interval of such a long workout.

Roadrunner race today. It was a 3200 on the Timpview High track. I ran 3 miles in the morning with Dad and JoJo then raced around 4:00 PM. My goal was to run 80s until I couldn't then slow down to around 82s. John Hedengren paced me and JoJo. Our first lap was a bit slow, 82. Then we ran 79, then 78. I felt pretty good for the first  laps. The fourth lap was 80, we had dropped JoJo a little by this point. We had 5:19 at the mile. On the fifth lap I started no feeling so great, so we slowed down a little and ran 83. I had 6:42 at the 2000, PR! In the sixth lap I felt pretty miserable and slowed down to an 87. John was still pacing me. The next lap was worse, I ran 88. At 2800 I had  9:38. I saw I could break 11:00 so I started kicking. At 3000 I had 10:20, another PR! I ran 38 for the last 200 and finshed with 10:58(which is also a PR, but I've only ever run 3200 once about 4 years ago). JoJo ran 11:04. I'm happy with this race, but I need to work on the middle laps. My legs actually didn't hurt too bad, but I just felt pretty miserable. But 3 PRs in one race is pretty good! I probably wouldn't have run as fast without John pacing me. So I'm glad he paced me.

5 mile long run in the canyon today. The goal was to run at 6:00 pace. I ran with Dad, JoJo, and Chad. Benjamin ran the first mile as a warmup and then did his own workout. Our first mile was about 6:00 even, I felt good, a little stiff but otherwise fine. I started to warm up a bit more in the second mile, we ran around 5:55 for that mile. JoJo was struggling and stopped at 3 miles. We had 17:55 at 3 miles. I was still feeling pretty good with 2 to go. At around 3.5 a biker wouldn't get out of the way and we had to dodge it. That made me start panicking for some reason. I started feeling really bad so we slowed down to 92's for a coupe quarters, luckily I was able to sped back up and ran the last mile in 5:52. It wasn't easy though, I still felt pretty bad. When I'm running fast little things set me off. I need to learn how to avoid panicking when I'm stressed. I think this is my fastest 5 miles though, 29:39.

JoJo ran a 2 mile tempo down the canyon today and I paced him through the last mile. William was also doing a 2 mile tempo, with Dad pacing. We did a rabbit chase, William got a minute headstart. I ran the first mile with William as a warmup. Then I waited for JoJo to catch up and ran with him. I paced a bit slow for the first quarter, 83 high, so JoJo took over the pace. We ran pretty quick for the next half mile, I'm not sure excatly what pace but somewhere around 80's. JoJo had a good kick but didn't manage to catch William. He ran 10:50, while William ran 11:48. The last mile was pretty quick, 5:19.

I felt very good, relaxed and nothing hurt. In the next quarter I sped up the pace a little, JoJo stayed with me. At 2000 JoJo kind of tripped on my shoe, it startled me a bit and I sped up. I pulled a couple seconds away from him. I'm not sure what my next 2 qaurters were. They were probably somewhere around 80 though. I think I had 9:15 with a qaurter left. I saw William and Dad about ten seconds ahead so I tryed to catch them. I ran 72 fro the last quarter, but it wasn't enough to catch them. I got 10:37, new PR! William ran 11:35 I think. JoJo was just off of his PR with 10:42. My last mile was 5:09. I'm happy I was able to have such a big negative split.

6 miles, I ran less today because I took the ACT test. It is very long and can be mentally taxing. Stevie, MoMo, William, MiMi, and Bella ran a race today. Stevie and MoMo ran the 800 and everyone else ran the 1600. MiMi ran 7:39 an Bella 9:09. Both got PRs. Bella stopped a couple of times because she got confused. They were running with the older girls, grades 6 - 8. MiMi actually beat of couple of them. William didn't have a very good race 5:51 in the 1600. Stevie barely missed his record with 2:52, MoMo was right behind in 2:53.  I ran later in the afternoon. MoMo and Stevie wanted to try running the 800 again because they both missed their records, so I took hem to the track and paced them. Our first lap was good, 85. Then MoMo started struggling and fell back. Stevie kept pace though. We ran an 86 for the last lap. He got 2:51. Which is faster than his 800 earlier but still not a record. MoMo slowed down significantly and finished in 3:08. It was pretty windy, Stevie probably would have gotten a PR if not for the wind. I ran a quick 400 in 74 afterwards. I was fairly sore. We ran home and I added 3 miles. I went pretty quick, 21:46. Did a couple pickups and ran about a 6:30 last mile. It felt good to run fast.

2 mile tempo run down the canyon today. We did the usual rabbit chase, with William getting a minute headstart. I ran with JoJo. I was trying to run 5:20 pace from the start instead of going out slower and then finishing fast like last time. I ran the first mile in 5:21, JoJo was having problems with his knees and stopped at 0.75. I ran a bit slower for the next 3 quarters then picked up the pace and ran a 74 for the last quarter. I caught William and Dad at about 200 to go and then slowed down. I ran 10:39. I think its a pretty good time, not quite my PR though. I had a hard time running by my self, but it was good. Wiliam ran 11:42.

I ran in the Provo Rec track meet today. I ran 4 miles in the morning then raced in the late afternoon. JoJo, Me, Wiliam, Stevie, MoMo, MiMi, and Bella ran the 1600. All age groups ran together, so there were about 20-30 kids. I ran the first 100 in 17 seconds to avoid getting boxed in, but there were a couple of kids ahead of me anyway. The first lap went well, at about 250 meters the kids ahead of me started boxing me in so I did some manuvering and moved to the front. Sam Clayton followed me. At 400 I had 74. I felt pretty relaxed. The next lap was good too, I moved into first at some point, not sure when. I had 2:30 high at 800. I was focusing on staying relaxed and calm for the whole race. I also didn't look back very much, so I don't know how my competetion was running very well. The next lap was slower, 80. I probably could have gone faster. In the last lap I think Sam was right behind me. I had a good kick, 76. My time was 5:06.7. Sam was 2nd, then Logan was 3rd. JoJo wasn't feeling very good, he got 4th with 5:20. William ran 5:44. Stevie and MoMo ran 6:06, Stevie was a bit ahead. MiMi ran 7:47 and Bella ran 9:20. It was a good race, I stayed calm the whole time and won the race.

Nice race and win! I always found the third lap the hardest when I ran 1600s. You really have to focus and keep pushing or it is easy to slow down.

5 mile long run down the canyon. It was a bit different than last time though. Dad had JoJo do the pacing without looking at his watch, so we went slower than usual. We ran 6:23 for the first mile. I don't know the exact splits for the next miles but they ranged from 6:18 to about 6:30. The pace felt easy, not much harder than an easy run suprisingly. I felt really hungry though. Our finishing time was 31:50 I think. JoJo ran the whole way, that was good. On the way home I got so hungry I could barely run. I've never felt that hungry on a run before. When I got home I ate a bunch, probably 1500 calories, after that I was fine. Benjamin raced in a 5000 track meet today. It was at the byu track. He got 3rd place with 15:13. New PR by a lot. We ran up the canyon to get the car today. William ran 2.5 miles then turned around and ran home. We ran about 6 miles up the canyon then turned around and did a mile pickup. I could tell JoJo's knee was hurting so I let him and Dad do the pacing. We ran 5:58.

Our first 800 was good, we had 2:40. I felt good so I ran 77 for the next 400. JoJo fell back after that, he knee started acting up because I sped up. At the mile I had 5:17. I slowed down in the next 3 quarters and at 400 to go I was about 4 seconds behind 5:20 pace. I ran about a 36 to catch William and Dad with 200 to go. I kept that pace pretty well and finshed with 10:36. New PR by a second! Mile splits were 5:17, 5:19. It was good but I need to work on keeping pace from 2000 to 2800. William ran around 11:40

7 easy miles. I felt sluggish for most of the run. At 5 miles a biker almost hit me. She was in the wrong lane, but I should have been paying more attention. It got my adrenaline going though, I didn't feel sluggish for the rest of the run. We ran around 53:30.

I ran in a track meet at American Fork High today. I did the 800. It was almost 80 degrees, so I'm glad I didn't do the 3000. Bella, MiMi, MoMo, Stevie, William, Bonnie, and JoJo also ran. I was trying to run about 66 or 67 for the first lap and then not die too badly. The first lap was pretty good 68. I was behind Cole and another kid. In the third 200 I slowed down a lot and I was having a hard time breathing. I don't know what I had at 600. I got passed by 3 people, one was JoJo and I don't know. I started kicking after I got passed for the third time. I passed JoJo and one other kid but I couldn't catch the last kid. I got 2:23.39. It was okay, but I was a little disappointed. In the evening I added a mile. I wanted to see how tired I really was so I did the last half mile as fast as I could. I ran 77 for the first 400 and 73 for the last. So I still had a lot in me. Next time I'm going to try to really give it all I got.

William ran a little under 33 I think. MoMo ran a bit under 35 and Stevie was about 0.1 seconds behind him.

Then William joined us. We sped a little then slowed down. At 2800 we had 10:28. Our last qaurter was 90. We ran 11:58. I felt good, it wasn't very hard. JoJo and I ran just under 1:00:00 for 8 miles.

300 meter time trial again today. We were going to run in the USATF track meet but we registered too late. I ran 44.4, JoJo ran 45.5. Both are PR's.  William broke 52. Stevie and MoMo were a bit under 55 I think. I felt like I wasn't reaching my top speed again. But it was faster than last time, so that's good.

We did a mile pickup at the end, Benjamin ran at his own pace. I paced the whole mile. We were running pretty fast. 87's or so. I felt good and pretty strong even though I was tired. In the last qaurter I kicked pretty hard. I ran 16 for the first 100, then I slowed down a little. I don't know what my splits were but my time was 70. I ran 5:23 for the mile. Dad ran 5:33 with the last qaurter in 80. Benjamin was under 5:00, but I'm not sure what the exact time was.

I ran the 1600 at an Orem Rec track meet today. JoJo, William, Stevie, MoMo, and Bella also ran. It was windy, maybe 8mph. The first lap was very good. JoJo and I ran 72, I felt good. We ran 74 for the second lap. JoJo and I were still together. In the third lap we slowed down and we ran somewhere around 80, maybe 81. I was tired but I kept pushing. I don't remember 800 to 1400 very well. It was kind of a blur. JoJo passed me at some point, so I started kicking. I think I ran the last 200 in 36. I ran 5:04.51, that is a 3 second PR. JoJo ran 5:07. We both ran well. William had a stomachache, so he only ran 6:03. MoMo had a good race, he ran 6:02 and got outkicked by a girl at the end. Stevie ran pretty well, 6:07. Bella ran 9:14. MiMi fell at the start of the race and got over so she didn't run. I'm happy with this race.

For some reason when I panic my body hurts way more than it should. I was able to keep running the same pace but it was a lot harder than it should have been. I don't know what time we ran. I ran the 3000 at a USATF track meet today. JoJo, Bonnie, William, Stevie and MoMo also ran. It was at Corner Canyon high in draper. Corner Canyon is a pretty windy track. The wind wasn't super bad though. JoJo and I planned on running even 80s. The first lap was good, 78 or 79. I was tempted to go with the leaders but I ran the right pace. At 800 we had 2:37. Then we ran 2:40 for the next 800. JoJo fell back at 1600. I kept pace pretty well though. I don't remember my exact splits, but I ran mostly even 80's for the next couple laps. But I slowed down with 2 laps to go and at 2600 I had 8:42. 2 seconds behind pace. I had a good kick but just barely missed breaking 10:00. I ran 10:00.16. That is a 20 second PR. I'm very happy with it. Cole just barely broke the state record in 9:35. There were also 2 other kids ahead of me. JoJo ran 10:13. A small PR. MoMo, who was running the 3000 for the first time, ran 12:01. Stevie ran 12:21, also his first time running the 3000. William ran 11:28. Bonnie ran 12:15. Hopefully I can run 9:40 or 9:30 at Nationals.

I ran in the Provo Rec track meet today. It was pretty hot. 81 degrees. As the annoucer said, "perfect weather". He obviously didn't know what he was talking about. JoJo, William, Stevie, MoMo, MiMi, and Bella also ran. MiMi and Bella ran first. Bella ran 9:15 I think. MiMi ran 3 laps and thought she was done, so she stopped. It took a couple of minutes to convince her to keep going. She ended up last behind Bella. The boys raced next. At the start a couple of things went wrong. First, I started in lane 3 behind a little kid so I had to do some manuvering to get into the lead pack, and second, my watch didn't start. After the first lap my mouth was really dry. I stayed with JoJo, Logan, and Sam through the first 2 laps, then they put a bit of a gap on me. I slowed down a lot in the last 2 laps, I wasn't feeling very motivated for some reason. I finished in 4th with 5:12. JoJo won in 5:02. That is a big PR for him. Sam was second with 5:03,  and Logan ran 5:05 in third. William ran 5:50, Stevie ran 5:58. That is a big PR for him. MoMo mostly gave up after Stevie pulled away from him and ran 6:12. It wasn't a good race for me, but I'm okay with it. At least JoJo and Stevie had good races.

Dad and I paced William and MoMo through about 600, then William and I sped up so we would be on pace at 800. At 800 I had 2:55, William was a bit behind. After that he fell back more and more. He ran 5:59. MoMo ran a PR though, 6:03 I think.

9.5 miles with a 5 mile tempo run. I ran with Dad, JoJo, and Chad. JoJo did the pacing without a watch so Dad could see what an honest effort was to him. JoJo ran a lot better than a month ago. He ran 6:09 for the first mile, then pretty even 6:00's for the next couple of miles. He struggled a bit in the last mile, but never gave up. We ran a bit under 6:00 for the last mile and ended up with 30:03. My legs were pretty tired. I felt like I could have gone a bit faster and maybe kept pace for longer, especailly with fresher legs.

I ran a USATF track meet today. It was in Nephi. We had some trouble getting there. Dad drove William down early so he could do long jump, the plan was for Mom to drive Stevie, MoMo, Bonnie, and I to the race later, but our van's brakes broke so she couldn't get us there. Luckily Dad was able to drive back home, pick us up, and get us to the race. We got there pretty late though so Stevie and MoMo missed there race and Bonnie and I only had a couple of minutes to warm up. Bonnie and I ran the 1500. I started out with Cole and Truman. We ran 70 for the first lap. I slowed down to 75 in the second lap. The third lap was 77 and I ran 57 for the last 300. My time was 4:40. That is an 8 second PR. For some reason it didn't feel like a real race, and I was hardly tired at all afterwards. It was weird. I was third behind Truman and Cole. Cole got another State record with 4:24. I was close to Truman, he ran 4:37. Bonnie ran 5:39. William jumped 3'71 in the long jump. That is pretty good, it was the first time anyone in our family has done a field event. Later in the evening Stevie, MoMo, and William ran the 1500 at Orem High because they missed their races. I was supposed to pace William but Stevie was ahead so I paced him. I ran the first lap in 85, Stevie was right behind me, then we ran 87 or 88. William was behind with MoMo. Our next lap was 87, Stevie and I had 4:00 flat with 400 to go. He ran 5:28. That is a huge PR for him. He ran 5:58 in the 1600 last week, so this is a very big improvement. MoMo slowed down a lot when he saw Stevie pulling away. I don't know what time he ran. William was sore from long jump, he was a bit ahead of MoMo. Benjamin ran the Utah Valley Half Marathon. He had a good race, 1:06:33 in 4th place. 8 miles with a 2 mile pickup. At about 800 I took the lead for a little and kept pace, that made JoJo panic, so I slowed down and went behind. Dad and I stayed behind while Benjamin and JoJo put a gap on us. I feeling pretty frustrated. Every time I pass JoJo I have to slow down. So I feel like I'm not getting any training done. Dad is going to have me start doing workouts by myself on Wednesdays, but not this week because we are running State championships. JoJo runs much better on the track than in the canyon, maybe he has a mental block or something. Dad and I ran a little under 12:00. JoJo and Benjamin were a couple seconds ahead.

JoJo,Bonnie, William, Stevie, and I ran the USATF Utah Association Championships today. It was at UVU. Bonnie ran before the boys race. She got 12:13. Everyone else ran in the boys race. It was hot, around 80°. So Dad told JoJo and me to pace a bit slower. He said run 82's until the last kilometer, then speed up. I started out a bit fast for the first lap. It was 79 high or 80. Then I slowed down to 82. JoJo was still with me at that point. Cole was prety far ahead. Then Simon Barlow also might have been ahead. Corbin Randall was ahead of Simon but behind Cole. At about 1400 I sped up to 79's and 78's. I passed Simon and caught up to Corbin by about 1600. I stayed with him and ran 81's for 2 laps. I should have put a gap on him. I feel like I could have, but I didn't. With about 600 to go I put a 2 or 3 second gap on him. He kicked and put a 4 second gap on me. I ran a decent last 400, about 78. My time was 9:54. I'm really happy with that. The weather wasn't good, but I still got a 6 second PR. Corbin won the 15-16 division in 9:50. Cole ran 9:37(he won the whole race even though he's in 13-14). He ran a good first mile, but couldn't keep the pace. Stevie ran 12:29. He also had a tough time.

I ran the Ward Fun Run today. Benjamin, William, Stevie, MoMo, Bella, and I ran. It was a 2 mile out and back course. The first half is downhill and the last half is uphill. I ran 5:20 for the first mile. Then my legs basically gave out after that. I could only manage 11:36. It was pretty bad, but I'm fine with it. I had a good race yesterday. Benjamin also had a hard time. He ran 10:39. His PR is over a minute faster than that. Everyone else ran slower times than usual too.

Long run with a 5 mile tempo. JoJo was still feeling sick so he ran easy today. Dad, Chad, and I ran a 5 mile long run at 6:00. We ran 92 for the first quarter. Then we sped up to 88's and 89's. At 1200 Dad had to go to the bathroom, so we had to stop for a couple minutes. We ran mostly 6:00 pace for the next 3 miles. A bit faster sometimes. Dad told me to go ahead in the last mile. After 4 miles I still felt good at 6:00 pace, so I thought I could speed up to 5:30 or so in the last mile. I ran 1:00 for the first 300 of the last mile. Then my legs started really hurting. I slowed down to 22 and just couldn't really run anymore. I slowed down enough that Dad and Chad caught up to me with about 400 to go. They dropped me by a couple seconds. Chad ran 82 for the last 400 and Dad ran 83. My total time was 29:49. I think I was low on glycogen, so when I sped up I ran out of fuel and couldn't run anymore.

I ran 2 races today. First I ran the 3000, then about an hour later I ran the 1500. I have only ever done two races in one day once, but it was a while ago. It was a pretty small race. Only 10 people in the entire field of the 3000. Top 6 qaulify for the AAU National Championships. JoJo and me  were the only people in my age division. The plan for the 3000 was for me to pace JoJo to 2000 i 6:40, then run 3:10 for the last 1000. JoJo fell back after a couple laps, but I had was on pace at 2K. I couldn't speed up to 3:10 though. I think I ran 82, then 40 or so. My last lap was pretty good, 76. I ran 9:58. JoJo was 2nd in 10:30. William and Stevie had bad races. Stevie especially, he ran slower than 5:00 for the last 1K. Dad told him if he didn't run well in the 1500 we wouldn't bring him to Nationals, that got to him. He ran 5:36 in the 1500, MoMo ran 5:33, a PR for him. JoJo, William, and I raced after them. I actually didn't feel very tired from the 3000. JoJo and I ran the first lap in 74. Then he fell back. I ran 74 for the next lap. In the third lap I really focused on keeping the momentum going. I ran 76. Dad was yelling at me that I could get a PR. So I kicked in 54(equivalent to 72 400). My time was 4:38.39. About a 2 second PR. JoJo ran a bit under 5:00 and William ran 5:29. I'm really happy with the 1500. The 3000 was good too. I didn't feel very motivated in the 3000 running by myself though. Hopefully at Nationals I can go under 9:40 in the 3000 and 4:30 in the 1500.

But I need to work on pushing harder even when the conditions are bad,

Almost my entire family ran in the Murray Fun Days 5K today. Dad, Mom, Benjamin, Jenny, Nate(Jenny's husband), Julia, JoJo, Me, William, Stevie, MoMo, MiMi, and Bella(only 4 years old!) all ran. It was pretty hot at the start. Maybe 80º. I started out conservatively. The pace for the first mile felt pretty easy. I had 5:46 at one mile. That was too slow, so I sped up to about 5:30 pace. I saw Cole in the distance so I was trying to catch him. He started out with his Dad and had about 5:14 at one mile. At two miles I had 11:14(5:28 mile split). I passed Cole a little later. But as soon as I passed him, he passed me back. I got really tired after that and slowed down a lot. I think I lost motivation when Cole passed me and started gapping me. I ran pretty slow until about 1K to go. I thought maybe I could still outkick Cole. I got pretty close to him but didn't kick quite fast enough. At three miles I had 17:10. My total time was 17:42. I got 5th overall, 2nd in my age division. Cole was a bit ahead with 17:38. He's way faster than me in the mile. Last week he ran 4:36. That's faster than my 1500! I was only 4 seconds behind him so his endurance is not super great. 17:42 is a good time for the conditions. I'm happy with it. Benjamin won the race, I think he ran under 15:40. JoJo had a pretty hard time, he ran somewhere around 18:00. William ran 20:22. MoMo ran 20:50. Stevie's foot really hurt, he could only manage 25:00. Nate ran pretty well. He got 23:31 I think. Jenny has been injured for a while, so she hasn't run three miles straight for a month or so. She ran about 24:30. This is MiMi and Bella's first official 5K. MiMi ran around 27:30, and Bella ran 32:00 I think. Mom and Julia paced Bella and MiMi. Dad paced MoMo for the first mile and then sped up. I'm not sure what time he got.

Workout today. 2x1 mile, first interval and the second one downhill. Dad paced William. Jojo ran about the first 800 with me in the first interval. I started pretty fast, split 2:49 at 800. Then I basically held that pace to the end. I ran 5:39. Jojo fell back and ran around 5:50. William and Dad ran 6:30 I think. The next interval was interesting. I can't remember the exact splits but I ran a pretty good pace. In the last 400 I got confused, for some reason I though it was the third 400 but when I realized that it was my last quarter I sped up a lot. I ran 45, 36 for the last quarter. My time for the mile was about 5:27. I need to overcome this mindset of running slow in the third quarter, or in this case what I thought was the third quarter. This workout was better than last week, especially for William.

I ran in the USATF Region 11 Championships today, it was basically a repeat of state(same venue and same time), but it was about 10º hotter. JoJo, Stevie, and William raced as well. I started out running about on pace 82 for the first couple of laps. There were two guys ahead of me from the gun but I gained on them a little. I don't remember my exact splits, but they were somewhere around 3:30, 3:37, and 3:38 by kilometer. I felt good for the first kilometer, but the heat got to me after that and I couldn't go any faster. My time was 10:15. I got 3rd place(out of 4 people in my age division). I think I could've run 9:45 in optimum conditions. But it was a good race for how hot it was. JoJo ran 10:43, William 12:10, and Stevie ran 15:02. His foot was pretty bad.

I did a mile time trial today, it was our traditional pre-birthday mile. I was really hoping to break 5:00 today. Benjamin started out in 74.6, it felt pretty easy, I was relaxed. The next lap was a bit slow, 75.6, Benjamin said he kinda fell asleep because it was hot. When I saw I had 2:30 at 800 I surged and ran a 16.6 for the next 100! That took Benjamin by surprise, I let him take back over the pace. He realized I had a lot more juice than he thought. At 1000 my legs were starting to pay for the surge but I kept on pushing. We split 73.3 for the third lap. I started my kick with about 250 to go this time instead of 100. I'm glad Dad yelled at me to start my kick. With 100 to go my legs really hurt but I kept pushing. I had a 17 second last 100 and finished in 4:57.6. I'm really happy I could break 5:00! Thanks to Benjamin for pacing me and Dad and Stevie for cheering me on. Almost 6 years ago I broke 6:00 in the mile for the first time, it has been a long journey from sub 6:00 to sub 5:00.

8 easyish miles. I had to go somewhere in the morning so I didn't get around to running until later and I was by myself. I ran 2 miles in 13:59, then a couple of hours later I added 6 more. I don't know why but I felt like running fast. My first 3 miles were about 22:00 minutes. Then I decided I wanted to run sub 7:00 minute average. So I sped up the pace to about 24 seconds per 100. At 2 miles to go my stomach started hurting. I had only eaten dinner like 2 hours ago so I was still full. I slowed down a bit, at 1 mile to go I was even with 7:00 average. I ran 6:43 for the last mile. My total time for all 8 miles was 55:42. Again, I don't know why I wanted to run that pace, but it felt good. I think that's my fastest easy run for 8 miles.

I got a little flustered by all the bikers and people. We ran pretty even splits, around 6:00 for most miles. William stayed with us for all 3 miles, so he ran well. Dad had me run the last 800 fast. I ran the first quarter in 80, and the second in 78. It would have been 76 but there were a lot of bikers. It was a pretty good tempo run. I might be running a half marathon this fall. I hope I can keep 6:00 pace the whole time.

It's my 15th birthday today! I ran a 2 mile tempo with Benjamin pacing. I was chasing William and MoMo. William got a 1:15 headstart and MoMo got a 1:45 headstart. The goal was to run 78's for the first mile then see what I could do for the last mile. We were right on pace through one mile, right around 5:12. I felt good, the pace felt pretty fast but not super hard. I slowed down a bit for the next 800, 79, then 78. I think we caught MoMo at 2000. He was having a hard time. I can't remember the split from 2400 to 2800, but with 400 to go I think I had 9:08. I had a good kick, 74 for the last 400. My time was 10:22. 14 second PR! I'm really happy I could run this! My splits by mile were 5:12, 5:10. I'm running the 3000 in Houston in a couple weeks. Hopefully in better conditions and a lower altitude I can crack 9:40.

I had a pretty tough run today. First I ran a 2 mile tempo pacing William. He ran 11:46. He split 5:56, 5:50. Then I ran my own workout. 6x400 at around 66 with a 400 meter recovery. Chad ran about 5 to 10 seconds slower than me. I ran 65, 67, 65, 64, 69, 62. On the first interval I felt good. On the second interval I was a little tired from the 65 so I ran a bit slower. After I ran 64 I was really tired and could only manage 69 for the next interval, Dad told me to run 800 for the next rest. I was more rested for the last interval. I ran 30, 32 by 200. It was a good workout. My legs are really worn out, but in a good way.

Dad told me to run 5:00. I split it 74,76,75,74. It was hard but not all out. We ran up the Canyon to get the car. We thought Mom had driven it up there but she hadn't. So there was no car. Benjamin picked us up luckily.

I ran the 1500 today. I was in heat 2 of 4. With heat 4 being the fastest. I was hoping I could break 4:30. Everybody started super fast. They ran about 46 seconds for the first 300 meters. I ran 52 for the first 300, so i was in dead last. After about 400 meters everybody slowed down a lot, but I kept running the same pace. Dad told me to move through the pack and not get slowed down by anyone. In the next lap I moved from last place all the way to first place. With one lap to go I started kicking, then my croc slipped off a little, but I was able to get it back on. That's the first time a croc has fallen off during a race. Two of the guys behind me were better kickers than me. So i got third place. I ran 70 for the last lap. My time was 4:26.83. That's a 12 second PR! I'm really happy I could run it. Afterwards my legs were super tired. My splits were 52.8, 71.7, 71.6, and 70.6. Almost perfectly even. 4:26 converts to about 9:31 for the 3000. I'm stronger in the 3000 than in the 1500 so hopefully I can go sub 9:30 on Saturday. JoJo and William also had good races JoJo ran 4:45 and William ran 5:20..

I ran the 3000 at the AAU Junior Olumpics. I was in heat 2 of 3. It was really hot during my race. Almost 90°.  I started out in 37 for the first 200. As usual everyone started out ridiculously fast. So 37 seconds put me in last place.  I started making my way through the pack. A little before 800 I got boxed in. I moved into the 4th lane and made a strong surge to move into first place. After that I was never passed. I ran the next couple laps in about 78's and 79's.  After that the heat started getting to me and I slowed down to 82's. The 5th and 6th laps were really hard. I ran 86 from 2200 to 2600. My last lap was good. I ran 78. My time was 9:54.36, just barely missed my PR. But a good result for the conditions. I got 15th place overall and first in my heat. I'm very happy with my place. I was racing against 16 year olds, so hopefully next year I can get top 8. I got interviewed afterwards by milesplit. It was my first interview ever so that was exciting. William won his heat in 11:10 and JoJo ran 10:27.

I ran the most I have ever run before today. 13 miles! The workout Dad and I did was 1 mile at 5:30, 3 at 6:00, then 2 also at 6:00. The first mile was with William. He ran 5:47. Dad told him he needed to do another interval but he refused. Then me and Dad ran 3 miles up the canyon and started our 3 mile tempo. Chad ran the first mile with us then slower down. Dad and I ran 17:51. My legs hurt but I pushed through it and kept running. Then we ran 2 miles back up and ran our 2 mile tempo. I was feeling surprisingly good. I pushed the pace little. We ran 5:47 for the first mile. Dad told me to take off and see what I could do. I ran 83, 81 for the first 800. A mountain view high runner joined me for the last 800. I was able to run 5:31 for the last mile and got 11:17 overall. I was so tired afterwards. Dad ran 11:34. This was a good workout in preparation for the half marathon.

2x3 miles at 6:00 pace with 11 miles total. The first interval was tough. William was supposed to do all 3 miles with us but he dropped back after 1. Dad, Chad, and I ran 17:43. My legs were feeling pretty tired, Dad said he had a hard time as well. Chad said the pace felt pretty easy. I got pretty worked up because the pace felt harder than it should have, I need to not worry when I think something feels harder than it should. Before we did the next interval Dad massaged my legs to loosen them up. That made me feel a lot better. We split about 6:00 at the mile, it felt a lot easier than in the last interval. At 1.5 we had 8:56. I felt good so I speed up to about 84's. Dad came with me, Chad tried to keep up but fell back after about 400 meters. Dad and I ran 5:33 for the last mile, last quarter in 78. I got 17:20, Dad was right behind me. Chad was about 40 seconds behind us. He had to stop and tie his shoe (that's why you should run in crocs :)). I think changing my attitude and loosening up a bit helped a lot.  I'm hoping I can run under 1:18:00 in the half next week.

I ran my first half marathon today. Dad and I ran together for most of the race. The plan was for me to stay with Dad for the first 10 miles then speed up for the last 3. I felt good for the first 3 miles. We ran 5:48, 6:03, then another low 6:00. In the 4th mile, I started feeling a little strained, my heart was hurting a little but it went away. I felt surprisingly good for the next 4 miles. Even though we were running pretty fast, I think Dad and I ran a couple of 5:50s maybe even 5:40. Miles 6 and 7 especially felt very good. I wanted to go a little faster but Dad told me to hang back. My legs hurt but I just kept running the same pace. We slowed down a lot on mile 9.  I think we ran like 6:20. Dad told me to speed at mile 9. It turned out to be too soon though. My tenth mile was pretty good. About 6:00 flat. Then my legs started really hurting. I felt like I was still running at about the same pace even though I was in a lot of pain. Until I hit the hill at mile 11. That really killed me. I slowed down a lot. It was the worst I  have ever felt in my entire running life. All of the pain was in my legs, especially my thighs and quads. Dad caught up to me at about 12 miles. He could have passed me but he slowed down with me and encouraged me to keep going. With someone to run with I was able to speed back up to 6:00 pace. My legs still hurt a lot though. I had a decent kick, my total time was 1:19:37, Dad was right behind in 1:19:38. That's a pretty good time for my first half marathon.  I got 16th overall and first in my age division. I probably should have stayed with Dad for longer, but it was a good learning experience. It was a good run. A day later I'm surprisingly not super sore. What's odd is my speed is about the same as Benjamin's was at my age but my endurance is significantly worse. He ran 1:15 in his first half with similar speed to mine. I guess I just need to develop more. But I'm happy with my result.

6 miles with two 800 meter pickups. A bit of taper for the salt city mile on Monday. The goal was to run 2:24 for me and 2:40 for Dad, JoJo, and Chad. I ran 2:25 for the first interval(72, 73). My joints felt a bit stiff. In the second interval, JoJo did the first 400 with me. We had 71. I ran 72 for the last 400, 2:23 for me, JoJo was a little behind with 2:27. I don't remember what Dad or Chad had. My foot felt good, and my legs were a little tired in the last 400 of the second interval, but it was good. My target pace for Monday is around 72, I'm hoping I can break 4:50.

I ran the Salt City Mile in Liberty Park today. My foot was hurting a little before the start and I wasn't feeling very energetic, but otherwise, I felt good. No soreness from the half marathon. I started out pretty well, 69 for the first quarter. The next quarter was about 73 or 74. I got kinda tired in the third quarter and slowed down a little. In the last 400 my lungs and heart felt weak. But I still had a good finish. I had 4:52 on my watch. That's a pretty good PR. 5 seconds! The chip time was a bit messed up, so I'm just going with my watch time. Overall it was a good race, my legs didn't feel very tired afterward. I think it was my lungs and heart that limited me.

I tried doing a fast mile again today. This time I chased Stevie, Dad, William, and MoMo. William had a 45 second headstart and the others had a minute. I tried to start out slower and not worry about the pace so much. I ran the first 800 in 2:25(73, 72) then I sped and ran 71, 70 for the last 800. I caught William with about 400 to go and the others with 200 left I think. My time was 4:46, that's a pretty big PR for me. I think that having someone to chase and starting out slower helped me. I also tried to be more mentally resilient so I think that helped me too. I'm glad that I was able to run under 4:50 and it was definitely a big confidence booster.

I ran a 4 mile tempo run today. The first two miles were uphill then I turned around and ran the last two downhill. The first mile was pretty good, I ran 6:15, about the pace I was aiming for. The next mile wasn't great, I ran 6:30. I didn't feel great, but it was also psychological. I need to work more on running uphill. On the way back I sped up a lot, I ran 5:50 for the 3rd mile, which felt pretty good. In the last mile William, Stevie, and MoMo stayed with me for about 400. I tried to speed up so I ran the first 400 in 83. Then I started feeling weird like something was off with my limbs. They didn't really hurt, it was just like something was wrong with the blood pressure, I'm not really sure. I slowed down a little but still managed a low 5:40 for the last mile. I got 24:17 for all 4 miles, I'm not super happy with it. I need to work more on running uphill, also my back started hurting in the last mile.

2X1 mile with a quarter recovery. The first mile was uphill and the second was downhill. I ran the first mile in 5:39. My splits were pretty even and it felt hard but good. I was worn out afterwards and wondered if I would be able to do the next interval so I ran the recovery really slow. I decided to start out in 80 seconds then see how I felt after that. I don't remember the splits exactly, but I got 5:15. It was a good time but I need to work on being less miserable while I'm running. Overall this was much better than last week.

I ran cross country state champs today. It was my first time doing a 5k on grass. I started out pretty well. The first kilometer was 3:24, a little fast but that's usually how it is. I was in 4th place at 1K but I passed one guy and another guy dropped out so I got into second a little before 2K. At 2K I had 7:03(3:39). I felt pretty good. It was hard to run alone though. There was nobody within 30 seconds of me, both ahead and behind. I was still running well at 3k, I had 10:43 there(3:40.1). After that I slowed down a lot. I tried to speed up and I was able to for a bit, but it was really hard for me to keep that pace. I ran 3:54, 3:54 for the next two kilometers. I tried to not be too miserable and I was still running a pretty hard pace. My final time was 18:31, I got second place. First place was about 1:30 ahead of me and third place was more than a minute behind. The course was about 200 meters long, so this time would probably be under 18:00 on an accurate course. Overall, I'm happy with this race. I feel like it was a good experience in being tougher.
