Short-Term Running Goals: -Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials Long-Term Running Goals: -Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.
-Break stroller records?
-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.
Personal: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home. |

| | Muddy workout at Intramural, not because of rain or anything, but the sprinklers. That's what happens when you live in a desert lol.
Mile breakdown: 4:46, 3:33, 2:18, 67, 65, 65. Three or four minutes rest. The first mile didn't feel as good as hoped, felt some lactate in my legs. Afterwards my right achilles felt a little sore, I think it will be fine.

| | Amazing that a morning run felt so warm in November. I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Achilles was still a little sore, so no strides.

| | 10 miles in my new Pegs. I like them more than previous version. Even though we are on break after Friday, I am hoping my achilles tendons can be ok through the 5 mile race in spikes.
60, 60, 30, 29. Wished it would have felt a bit easier.

Weber State Invite (4.971 Miles) 00:24:35, Place overall: 8 | | First race in over a year. Normally in workouts you try to stay within yourself and not push it too hard. Racing is exactly the opposite- the purpose is to push harder even when it really hurts, especially when you have moved into scoring position for your team and your team isn't doing very well. I felt good running the first mile (somewhat downhill) in 4:46, just off the main pack. Then I was at 9:36 at two miles. I felt controlled for just long enough that I was able to survive the last mile. I was really tired and we had to work our way up a hill at the end, but it was kind of a stalemate between the guy in front of me and the guy behind me. We were all pretty close together but none of us had much of a kick.
Anyway, I'm glad I was able to show up for the one race of my XC season, and look forward to training this winter. I hope to continue to improve. I was super glad my thigh felt good today.

| | Ran out on to the park and onto the pier thing that goes on the lake this morning. It was gorgeous. A little windy today but some of the guys weren't wearing shirts. This was really the last day to soak up the warmth. By some miracle my achilles tendons were fine as was my thigh, but right when we turned around my groin area started hurting. Hopefully it will be better soon.

| | AM: swimming. There are only six available lanes and one person per lane so I didn't get as much time as I wanted.
PM: 7 miles. Also did some adductor work during the day.

| | Adductor hurt. I think I am going to try putting less stress on it and just let it heal rather than strengthen it a lot which may do more harm than good.

| | No swimming this morning, focusing on getting better. Although my glut felt pretty ravaged during the day, my run was fine which is good. Such nice weather for November. If nationals were this week like normal, it would probably be the nicest weather season ever.

| | 7 miles, feeling OK. Adductor doesn't really hurt while running much. But if I went fast it might. Just hope it gets better quick.

| | 7 miles and four strides. Could run sort of fast but not super fast or long without feeling it in my adductor.

| | 7 miles, watched a teammate run a converted sub 4 minute mile (4:04 and he ran the last 800 alone) which was pretty cool.

| | Tbh I had a sneaky idea to mark this entry as a race report and say it was a mile time trial in 3:59 to get people to click on this. You see, I am using this as social media to post my #givethanks stuff, particularly as it relates to running. So here are some running related things I am grateful for.
1. Coaches who care. I have had four of them. They are passionate about what they do and love their athletes.
2. Outside time. When other people are in their houses with the heat turned up, I love to "conquer the cold" by being outside in tights and a long-sleeved shirt on a long run and be actually sweating. That's pretty cool.
3. Geography. I love getting to know places based on my run. This includes the cities I live in as well as vacation spots I've been to. Some of my most tangible memories of Portland, Hawaii, and Montana for example are where I went running.
4. Healthy body. I would probably be overweight by now if I didn't run. As it is, I feel good in my own skin. I feel strong and healthy.
5. Life lessons. I feel that I am more disciplines, resilient, grateful, intelligent, and spiritual because of running.
6. Teammates. I have met some really fantastic people on my cross country teams.
7. Night runs. I don't do many of these, but they can be pretty fun.
8. So much more! I have been typing for like two straight minutes. It took me literally zero time to think of these things, and I am grateful for so much more that God has given me through running.
PS- felt better than I have in a while today.

| | Felt a little icky today in my hamstring particularly. Hopefully the workout tomorrow goes well. Hey, running 9 miles is better than no miles!

| | I am just grateful that I was able to do this run without hurting too bad in my adductor, hamstring, or anything else! It was a nice morning outside. I waited until 11:00 so it could be warm, which is helpful when you are hurting. I did the same route as my last workout in Mapleton except didn't plan to go as far. Just four miles. Goal was to go 5:30, 5:20, 5:10, 5:00 so I could ease into it without hurting myself. That wasn't too ambitious but it was my first hard work in almost three weeks too. However, today the wind blew south so I went out in 4:57 to my surprise. The rest of the run I ran into the wind (to clarify- it was definitely a wind but not like Murdock wind). Hard but I didn't feel like I pushed too much. 5:05, 5:07, 5:09 for the next three miles. So like 5:05 pace overall. That's something else to be happy about.

| | Very very cold run that had some sketchy parts of it like roadkill, cops, and scary dogs, but also was nice in that my leg felt pretty good. I heated it this morning before leaving.
