Short-Term Running Goals: -Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials Long-Term Running Goals: -Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.
-Break stroller records?
-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.
Personal: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home. |

I think I've caught 6-7 leaves this year.

| | 7:11 pace, farmers fields. I'm grateful for construction workers because they are always really chill about you running through their workspace lol. There was a guy walking towards me I thought to apprehend me but he just smiled and waved. Unfortunately they put a a fence up at the end of my soft surface path. Don't ask me why I'm still running slow. Maybe the cold?

| | 6:10 pace on a cool but not frigid morning on east river flats to east river road. 6:01s on the way back. I haven't been that far on east river in a long time. Today I made it past St. Thomas. Bottom of foot (plantar fascia?) was still hurting a bit. Felt tired a lot starting a few miles in, less so at the end actually. Was surprised to see the football game doesn't start till 2:30. Why the bands are practicing and people are tailgaiting in that weather at 8 am is a mystery to me.

| | It was almost 50 degrees this morning and my wife had been up a lot with the kids so it was a perfect day to take my daughter on a run when she woke up. East river flats. We had a good time. I'm sure my shoulders will feel sore tomorrow, but as a bonus, the rest of my body (i.e., feet) felt pretty good.

| | 6:48 pace coming home from east river road. I'm a little annoyed- we are trying to cut back on my backlog of running shoes and get rid of some that I don't need. I thought I had a good 100 miles in each of my Peg 37s from way back when but I did not like the ones I wore today- they rubbed my heals, I felt pain on my medial right knee, and they just have a different feel that I'm not really used to. So, sad as it is, I will be retiring each of those. Good thing I have two new pairs of Sauconys on their way, and here's to them being good.

| | West river road north for variety. 6:54 pace. I would like to extend a major congratulations to those working on the bridge near downtown. It has been under construction since we moved here 2.25 years ago. I've never been able to run straight under it, as opposed to under a little covered scaffolding type thing. No idea why it took that long but I'm sure people are happy to be done with it.

| | 6:47 pace, farmers fields. It was a great overcast morning for running. The only bad part was a yucky strong smell coming from a building near my house.

| | This run was very loosely 6:13 pace and very loosely 16 miles. It was a combination of a couple of things: being on break, I wasn't overly concerned about it being all "fast", plus the leaves have mostly fallen so I could better see the trail below the bluff, and finally, snow hasn't fallen yet, so the trail was visible. Basically, I spent way more time on the Winchell trail than ever before. It was really nice, of course. And hopefully this will benefit me even during the summer, now that I know trails exist where they do. The most significant one comes right after the railroad bridge (you can actually run under the bridge I think staying on the trail). It goes down to the river and goes for quite a while. The way to get out of it is the driveway that goes to the boating club. There is potential to go even further that I didn't experiment with though (basically, I don't want to have to climb back up the ridge like I did once with my team). I also stayed on the trail further than I have before at other times too. Overall, it's a highly soft-surfaced route if you do it like that.
I had high hopes for the new shoes after trying them on last night. The upper fits on like a glove, just like the Rides. Well, they aren't perfect, but I'm glad I have them. They are better than the shoes I am currently wearing.

| | Seems hard to believe- I ran 6:47 pace coming back from west river, despite hopping on the Winchell trail early (where it is really curvy and slow)
I am pretty sure this will be the last day of the year that I run without gloves in Minneapolis.

| | 6:14 pace. I found myself running the Winchell trail again, only this time I crossed the river at the Franklin Ave bridge so I made it all the way to the vets home. I guess I just wanted to take advantage before the snow comes. So yeah the effort was somewhat faster than that given the terrain. Winter long runs probably feel more boring because during the summer I'm so often racing, a week out from a race, on the gateway trail, or traveling so I don't do the typical runs that often.
NCAAs today. BYU men got 3rd which is great, that was their ceiling. BYU women decided to run someone else's race instead of their own and went from 1st at 2K to 14th. Really a shame to waste so much fitness trying to get position early at the cost of breaking yourself.

| | Its been a rough few night of sleep, so once again I took the perfect opportunity to take my daughter on a run on east river north. We stopped at my work on the way home as she seemed to be getting a little cold. It was about 40 degrees this morning which I think is the bottom limit to what I can take her on a 1 hour run for, so this will most likely be our last run together of the season. She loved the christmas lights. It was one of those really gray days with gray sky and bare trees.

| | Happy thanksgiving! Last year I was running a race in Virginia. Today my heels hurt a good amount while warming up but got better as the run progressed. Just under 7 minute pace doing all the Winchell trail up to the bridge. Pretty cold and windy but can't complain.

| | It's been a long few days with sickness and other stuff. So I had a hard time enjoying my run (7 flat pace, east river flats). It feels like it may be time to retire the Hokas as my body is feeling not great (i.e., knees) wearing them, though that could be other things.
