I broke Alan Webb's HS mile record with a... well, if anyone is actually reading this, I guess I'll be honest:

Short-Term Running Goals:

-Stay healthy and don't burn out; a healthy runner is always faster than an injured one!

-Qualify for and be all American at nationals (top 40)

-Help my team accomplish any team goals, including running at nationals

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Break age group American records or at least get into the top 10 by continuing to find time to train and taking care of my body in other ways, including by eating a healthy diet, long after most people have quit competitive running.

-Break stroller 10K and half marathon records when we have kids. 

-Run Boston pretty fast at least once. 

 

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home. 

Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. After yesterday's effort I expected to hurt more today, but although it felt fatigued throughout the day, I was fine on my run and ran quite fast on accident.

Smoky day from the fires. But then it got better. So I ran around the indoor track and then eventually decided to run outside. Right side was not feeling amazing.

Treadmill run because of the smoke. Of course on treadmills you can be running a light jog and it will say "4:20 pace" or you can be totally hauling and it will say "8:30 pace". I just tried to run what felt right. Didn't feel perfect but I did a couple strides afterward.

Really nice run on the river trail, 67 minutes and then three strides at 90 percent. I didn't feel like I could do a whole workout yet but that felt fine. Strength.

71 min. Office park loop. I thought that maybe I need to shift more Gradually into workouts, so I would do a bit of a fartlek. I ended up doing three hard sections of one minute each. The third one I quit a little before, I hope I didn't push too hard.

Ran in Orem along the bike path there. I'd like to go back. It would be great for tempo runs and you can run along the gravel on the side for easy days. After yesterday I felt a little rubberbandy/ floppy on the right side.

Not sure how to describe how it felt today. I think it is inproving though. Perhaps I should start building up by gradually doing longer portions faster, like 6 minute pace, then 5:30, etc.

Typical long run where I get up to "hardish" pace by halfway to halfway. Thus it was a pretty hard effort. I wonder why I can always do that. Maybe I need to implement that in my training and do other hard efforts as buildups rather than immediately going to 5:10 pace. 

I think it was about 5:48 pace overall.

New socks, new shoes, and I am grateful to be ready to implement my new game plan by degrees. It went well for today but we'll see tomorrow how it really went. Went to Murdock canal trail to run my only "workout" of  the week, a progression run. I have a long way to go but it was a good start. Not including the warm up and cool down, my miles were: 5:31, 5:27, 5:25, 5:14, 5:10. Average: 5:21.

I definitely was feeling it today. But at the same time, I may have been able to get over the hump of doing a workout and then having to revert back to elliptical. I'm not planning on doubling tomorrow, but I think I'll still be able to run. We'll see. 63 min of loops at Kiwanis park. Probably pretty slow but that grass really slows you down.

Well... that was something. I think 28 plus miles in two days took a tole cuz by the time I turned around I didn't accelerate much more. I almost made it to the water fountain. My Achilles wasn't do amazing near the end either but it's Saturday so I finished it off, albeit slowly because of how tired I was. My feet felt like they were really slipping around in the Pegasus', so I tied them up a little higher just now.
