Running Accomplishments:

High School:

I broke Alan Webb's HS mile record with a... well, if anyone is actually reading this, I guess I'll be honest:

XC 5K: 15:57

1500: 4:04.55

800: 2:01.05

400: 53.07

3000: 9:18

College

5000: 13:59.58 (UW Indoor Invite 2021)

Mile: 4:07 (converted from 4:12.06 at altitude; also converted by NCAA to 3:48.8 for 1500)

Indoor 3000: 8:14 (converted from 8:24.76 at BYU indoor race, 1/16/21)

10000: 29:57 (West Coast Relays 2021)

800: 1:55.6@ (solo time trial at Provo high school)

400: 51.84h

Short-Term Running Goals:

-Stay healthy and don't burn out; a healthy runner is always faster than an injured one!

-Qualify for and be all American at nationals (top 40)

-Help my team accomplish any team goals, including running at nationals

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Break age group American records or at least get into the top 10 by continuing to find time to train and taking care of my body in other ways, including by eating a healthy diet, long after most people have quit competitive running.

-Break stroller 10K and half marathon records when we have kids.

-Run Boston pretty fast at least once.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. And make sure to share it with your friends.

44 minutes. Felt sore on both sides, but it went about as well as it possibly could have. It's been a quick recovery. 130/110 weights. I really hope to rid myself of this for good by the end of finals since I won't have access to the gym after that.

60 minutes, fast and strong. At times I nearly forgot I was injured. Mostly my calves and Achilles just felt sore, especially on weights. On the concentric ones my left calve was shaking all over the place, it was kind of weird to watch (130/110).

One of the windiest days I've ever run. It was a good idea to wear sunglasses! I ended up with dirt on my face, in my teeth... Achilles were both sore. Hmm. 130/130

Really don't know what happened on Tuesday. I felt alright during the run but overnight things got a lot worse in my Achilles. Today I was back at it. I wanna be ready to workout by June. But I can wait longer if needed.

40 min. I went in the morning so I could get to work later. It was pretty sketchy. Normally the past few mornings my Achilles has hurt pretty bad just walking. I made it, and it got better later, but I'll have to be careful.

Rather miraculously felt good today, notwithstanding the fact that after my run yesterday morning I was on my feet all day at 10 hours of work. 45 min. A common feeling of numbness as I didn't run my full range of motion to protect where I'm injured, but not nearly as bad as it could be.

49 minutes in the morning. Thankfully, I felt pretty darn good for it being a morning run.
