8 miles on tm at 1.0 incline. started out at 8.0 mph and every 0.5 miles I increased speed by 0.1 mph. So by mile 5 I was at 9.0 mph, I held that for 1 mile, then came down .1 mph every 0.25 miles to end at 8.2 mph for the last quarter of a mile. Total time was 56:21, avg of 7:03 miles. This was the first run in a while that wasn't just an easy steady pace. It felt good to start working out again rather than just running.

7 miles at 1.0 incline on tm. I warmed up for 2 miles. Then did 4 x1200 meters with 3 minute rests in between. I ran the first 800 meters at my goal marathon pace (9.0 mph), then ran the last 400 meters at my mile time (10.1 mph, which is actually low, but I am out of shape right now). I would then do a 3 minute recovery jog at 8.2 mph. I did that 4 times, then did the last .7 miles at 8.6 mph. Total time was 48:30 avg pace of 6:56. I felt really good during and after the run. I am excited about it. I think next time I do this I will do the 400 meters at my goal mile pace (according to a marathon time of 2:56ish). That is about a 5:10 mile, or 11.6 mph, so I will need to get in a lot better shape before this workout cycles through and shows up again.

| | 9 miles on tm at 1.0% incline. I wanted to do a speed workout, but I just didn't have it in me, so I just did this at a quicker pace than normal. I averaged about 8.9mph, I don't know my exact time. I had to take a test today, and the kid sitting next to me kept letting out the worst smelling farts. He would fart about every 5 minutes, for the entire 2 hours I was taking my test. I was getting really mad. Of course while I was running, I was the guy with smelly gas. I am sure the girls on either side of me were getting mad. Life is funny.

10 miles on tm with 1.0% incline. I started out a little quicker than normal because I wanted to start doing a speed workout about 30 minutes in. After 30 minutes I increased the speed to 9.3 mph (6:27) and held it for 6 minutes, then went to 10.7 mph (5:36) for 1 minute. I did 5 times with no recovery or breaks in between. I felt really good during and after. I was tired while doing it, but I felt like I could have kept of doing it. This is the fastest I have done a 10 mile training run. I also beat my only 15k time during this run. I hope I am actually improving, and not just wearing myself out. I feel good and not like I am pushing it too hard too soon.

| | 8 miles on tm at 1.0% incline. When I first started out I got some sharp shooting pains in my right ankle. They would be off and on about every 30 seconds. At one point I almost put my arms on the handles to take the weight off of my foot. It didn't feel like anything serious, so I pushed through. After about 10 minutes they went away. I could feel that my form was not so good at the beginning of my run, but it felt like it got better towards the end.I feel like my right leg might be a little longer than my left leg, and it makes me run a little sideways. Maybe I could try an insert to try and even it out. avg pace 7:19

13 miles on tm at 1.0% incline in 1:27:39. I started out at 8.3 mph and increased the speed by 0.1 mph every mile. I took a gu around mile 6 and a few ounces of watered down gatorade at 6.5. I then had a few more ounces of gatorade at mile 10. I probably didn't need the gu, but anytime I get a chance to have a peanut butter gu, I take it!
I felt good during this run. No pain in my right ankle, and my form felt way better than it did yesterday. avg pace 6:45

I was surprised at how comfortable I felt after having run 9 miles and doing the last mile that fast (that is fast for me). I figure this is my last week on the treadmills. I had better start running outside so I can start training with some wind resistance and elevation changes.

| | 9 miles on tm at 1.0% incline. I averaged about a 7:27 pace. I dont know if it is my lack of sleep, my poor diet, or if I have gotten sick of running on the treadmills, but my runs this week have been death marches from the start. Hopefully I can take my test early tomorrow and go running outside for the first time this year. |

|
| | 14 miles on tm at 1.0% incline in 1:37:34, avg pace of 6:59. This was the only run all week that I didn't want to quit 3 or 4 miles in. I started out at 8.2 mph and increased my speed by 0.1 mph every 1.5 miles. I was wanting to do this run outside after my test and before work. I got done with my test at 3:30 and start work at 6;00, just enough time to squeeze in a run, shower, and head to work. But my brother-in-law wanted to play Madden. It is hard to pass up Madden, so I didn't. We played 3 games, and I had to run to work to make it on time (dang overtime).

| | 10 miles on tm at 1.0% incline. I was going to start running outside today, but the lure of the miami boston game was too much. | | I stayed up until 1 am throwing up. I knew I didn't feel good during last nights run. I had downed about 60 ounces or water/gatorade/protein drink after my run, and my body thought it was too much. My legs are still a little sore from Saturdays long run, so I didn't want to do anything too stupid. my treadmill at the gym is out of order. It is the only one that is on the first row, right in line with a tv, and able to go over 1 hour without a restart. Looks like I will start running outside soon (but I have said that a few times already this year, and yet I still go to the gym everyday). |

10 miles in 1:11:59. This was my first run outside since maybe October. A couple of things I realized I missed about running outside: Being able to pass gas and not have to dwell in the stench. Being able to pass gas without having to get weird looks from people next to me. Being able to spit or blow my nose. A couple of things I missed about running on the treadmill: Watching basketball. No swarms of tiny flies to run through. I never remember breathing smoke or car exhaust in while running indoors. Overall, I may not be glad I am back outside, but I definitely need to be outside to get some real training.

| | Yesterday I went to class at 7:45 am-10:00 am, studied for a chem test that I took from 4:00-6:00pm. Worked from 6;15-9:15pm. I was planning on running after work, but I had too much homework. I didn't get to bed last night until 3:00am.
Today for my health and fitness class we did yoga for 45 minutes. In the process, I managed to hurt the back of my left knee, and front of my right hip. My body was able to run 71 days straight (Mormon running days) and do 60+ miles a week no problem, but yoga hurt me. So I am going to take today off as well and hope my knee and hip feel better tomorrow. Stupid yoga.

|
| | First run in a while, and it showed. I thought I was going to die about half way through, then I thought for sure I was going to collapse when I finished my run and started a cool down jog. I don't know if this was due to it being my first run in a while, or the fact that I hadn't eaten anything and I finished my run at about 11:00 am. avg pace 7:53

|
| | two months ago I changed my diet big time. I use to struggle with eating anything more than a banana before going running. Today I wanted to check if anything had improved. I ate a full bowl of my cereal and headed out the door about 20 minutes later. Normally I would have GI problems if I tried that before, but today there were no problems. I don't know if it is because of my diet changes or if it was just dumb luck. But I am glad I had no problems.

| | I woke up at 5 to do some studying and then I was going o go running at 7. When I woke up there wasan amazing thunder storm. As I was studying the storm seemed to get worse. Finallyit came time for me to get ready to go running and the storm was really bad. Not a lot of rain, but the most lightning and thunder I have ever seen and heard. I didn't want to get hit by lightning so I thought about changing my run to around 1 pm. Then I thought "how often do I get to run in an amazing thnder/lightning storm?" SO I got ready and headed out. It was a good run. I don't know if I was running faster because I was scared of getting hit by ligthning, or if there was just more energy in the air, I didnt go a ton faster, but it was a noticably quicker pace than most of my training runs lately.
I am glad I decided to head out.

At the end of my run I saw a little fire under a truck in a parking lot. I ran over and was going to try and put it out with my shirt if I could. I got there and saw that the front of the truck was burning as well. A policeman arived seconds later and just watched, which surprised me because I am sure he had a fire extinguisher in his car, and at that point it looked like it could have been put out with a fire extinguisher. A few minutes later a fire truck arrived. I was also surprised by them taking their sweet time to get their hoses out and put out the fire. I know it wasn't an emergency, but still a little gitty-up would have been nice to see. Also a lady was hurrying to try and move her car away from the scene (she was about 20 feet from the truck and probably believes the HOLLYWOOD hype that cars just explode when they are on fire) she thought she was in drive but was in reverse and slammed her car into a truck parked behind her. She pulled forward a little then got out to check the damage, I just looked at her with a "You have got to be kidding me stare". She decided the damage wasnt bad and drove away.
This was a very exciting way to cool down after a run.

Run for the Cure (3.1 Miles) 00:19:02, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 2 | | I ran the Race for the Cure 5k in Idaho Falls today. This was the first 5k I have done in a couple years (I think). Going in I had high hopes of hitting around 18:00, but my training hasn't been going for too terribly long, so why should I expect a PR? I shouldn't but I had hopes.
The race started and me and one other kid jumped out in front. Technically he jumped out in front and he was about 30 feet ahead by the first 1/2 mile. I could hear someone close behind me, but I didn't want to look and force myself to try and run faster than I am able. At about the half way point I knew I wasn't going to catch the first place guy, and I didn't know how close third was. My goal at this point was to try and maintain the distance between first and me, and not look back for third.
The course was nice. We ran on a paved trail along a river, crossed the river, then ran back on the other side, crossed on another bridge, then went under the bridge back to where we started from. At one point a few geese were walking slowly across the trail, I was trying to run tangents and wasn't about to let a goose push me off my line. I stayed on my line and it got out of the way literally about 1/2-1seconds before I would have kicked it.
My chip time said 18:26, which would be a PR, but my watch said 19:02. I am trusting my watch.
Fun race, good cause.

| | 20:00 on a treadmill. I am pretty sure I didnt go as far as the treadmill said because it said I was going 10 mph when I felt like I was going about 7:00 min/mile pace.

Give a Breath of Life 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:18:26, Place overall: 1 | | Ran a race to support my brother-in-laws school program at weber state.
It was cold and windy at the start of the race. It was an out and back course, and the first half was straight into a really strong head wind coming out of the canyon (canyon that ogden marathon comes out of towards the end, 12th street) and the cours went uphill about 80 feet in the first half. It sucked going into the wind and up the hill, but it was really nice coming back. I won by about 2-3 minutes. At the half way point when I saw how far ahead I was I almost shut it down and jogged in, but I told myself I didn't drive 3 hours to do a jog, I drove 3 hours for a race. I pushed hard and finished in a decent time for me. The course was about .1 miles short, but what 5k isn't?

| | 7 miles on treadmill. I tried a hill workout program on the machine, and I was surprised. I think I might do that more often.
