Olympic Trials Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

2 x Deseret News 10k winner

3 x All-American at BYU (back in the day)

10 x state champion in high school (way back in the day!)

3 x USA team member

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would like to run an Olympic Trials Qualifier in the marathon.

I would also like to run on one more international team before I pack it in!

 Stay healthy!  (My biggest challenge!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run my whole life, and then live vicariously through my children. (just kidding) , but I do want to pass on a healthy lifestyle to them.

Help coach East High to a state championship. (hope it doesn't take a lifetime!)

Personal:

I've been running since I was nine.  I'm married to a fellow runner who inspires and supports me.  We have two children:  Cole (4) and Lily (18 mos.)  I help Bill Cobler coach cross country at East High School.

First run of the new year!  Yay!  50 minute run.  Just trying to build endurance and consistency before I get involved in another play.

Helping Lily with her training a bit.  So, starting some baby workouts.  I did ten minutes extra on my warm up.  We did 15 minutes warm up with 4 x 20 second strides in the last mile.  Then, 3 x 2 minute fast/3 minute float.  Five minute cooldown.  Hitting around 6:20-6:30 pace.  Doesn't feel good.  I haven't moved hard in a long time.

Shorter recovery run. It was a little slippery this morning.  10 days of consistent running. 80 to go until goal.

Gym day for longest run of the week.  Progression run with one minute pick ups thrown in.  Nothing too crazy.  Didn't feel like running in snow today

Running got miserable.  Cold is fine.  Wind is not.  Did Lily's long run with her.  She is building slowly. 40 minutes last week. 42:30 this week.  Nasty head wind the last two miles.  But, she hung in there well.  5.5 miles.

The weather is going to make the next few weeks a little rough.  It's cold!!

Too cold outside for a workout.  On the treadmill.  2 miles easy (8-8:30)  2 miles medium (7:15-7:30).  Two miles hard. (6:45-7:00.). 1 mile cooldown

To slippery out.  Cross training morning. I can't handle the treadmill more than a couple days a week.  Just need to get through the next week or so and conditions should improve.

Missed yesterday.  Weather was horrible.  Went in the afternoon today.  It wasn't too bad besides some slushy shoulders.  Hopefully I will get one more run before the next round of storms

45 easy with Lily.  It was so slippery.  I am a little short of what I wanted this week, but, it is still close to last week even with missing one day.  A few more crappy days to get through and then it looks better for awhile.

Tried to run outside.  It was too slippery.  If I had waited one more hour it would probably have been just fine.  I went to the gym for a workout instead.  2 mile warm up.  3 x 3-2-1 minutes with 2 minute recoveries.  Started at 7:00 pace and ended at 6:15 pace.  Trying to ease back into some speed stuff.

Fell off the running wagon this week.  Struggled with sleep and slippery conditions.  But, got a nice longer run in this morning.  I will attempt to pick up the consistency next week.  6 miles with Lily and a couple more by myself.

Thought it would be nicer out.  But, it rained and then froze so it was slightly slippery the entire run.  And foggy and dark. So it was a slower shorter run.  I'm incredibly paranoid about falling
