Catch-up post.  Ran my 1st 20 miler with jtshad and Debra.  The day was typical of this years weather, cold, cloudy and windy with occasional episodes of sun or snow.  The run was enjoyable and I felt great for about 18 miles, but I definitely was feeling the distance at the end.  It seems that every long run is now a little easier than the previous one and having good company makes the time go by faster.  The overall time was 2:38 for a pace of  about 7:55.

What a run! "Feeling great" for 18 miles...that's not normal. That is a nice pace for that distance. I just did 6.2 at that pace...no way I could do 20. Keep it up.

Thanks, I was not sure how the distance would affect my old body, but other than a little leg stiffness and an upset stomach about an hour later, I really did not have any big impacts - though I honestly was beat and wondered about running another 6.2 miles to finish a marathon. Getting the base miles in seems to make all the difference.
