Running Accomplishments:

I started running about ten and a half years ago. I have ran three marathons. SGM in 2005, Ogden in 2006, and SGM 2006. My best time in a marathon is Ut. Valley Marathon 3:59:46. I have ran seven half marathons, some 10k's and 5k"s. My favorite marathon is SGM.I have ran 13 Marathons, will be during my first Ultra in march of 2013, it will be the Antalope Island Buffalo Run, a 50k.

2008 SGM PR 4:02:23 The best is yet to come.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Short term running goal is to increase my four days a week of running to five to six days a week.  Do more speed work this coming year. Bring my times down. I would like to do SGM in 4 hrs or less.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep up with my Brother Clay in a marathon, someday do a sub four hour marathon, and BQ.

Personal:

I have been married for 34Years, and am still madly in love with my wife Wendy. I have four children and six Grand children.

Today it has been 2 weeks since the SGM.I did a very easy 10 miles, I felt good today, had some energy and my I.T. band seems to have gotten better since SGM. Not any pain at all. My split at the 5 mile mark was 52:04 and finished my 10 at 1:46:46, not as speedy as my Bro. Clay. But I'm better looking. HA,Ha. I also did 30 min. Of upper body work out with my Bowflex. I also did 185 crunches.

Good work. This shows you are capable of at least a 4:30 marathon with proper training, and that is a very conservative estimate. You do need to get out more often, even if it is only 2-3 miles.

Thanks Sasha, that is my goal for next year a 4:30 marathon. For SGM this year I was with the 4:30 pace team up to mile 18 and felt really good. Then my I.T. band started to hurt pretty bad and I had to cut back. What can I do for my I.T.? It never bother's me during training. But it did in Ogden and SGM at about the same mile mark.

What a nice day for a run mid. 60's it was awesome. Felt good today, picked my speed up a little. Time for 5 miles was 45:19, The fastest 5 miler I have ran for a while. Maybe the radiation treatments in Aug. & Sept. made me more tired than I thought. The past 2 weeks I have felt some renewed energy. I hope it stays around. I also did 30 min on lower body, legs with Bowflex.

Another nice day for a run. Will be colder tommorrow. Today I did a recovery run after yesterday speed day, well anyway a speed day for me. My legs did feel a little bit tired today. Felt strong on the hills though. My time 50:18, also did upper body workout with Bowflex 30 min. Tommorrow weather allowing I will do hill repeats.

Wow what a fun run today. The weather has diffenitly changed today. It sure made me aprreciate Mon.&Tues. weather.Today my time was 48:28. The last mile and a half was straight into a very hard north wind, with lots of snow pellets. I did a couple of 400m hills with more than moderate pace. Felt strong on the hills. I suffered a little the last mile and a half into the wind.

I took firday off for a rest day. Today felt pretty tired from the extra miles this week.My split time today at the 5 mile mark 51:40. A little faster than last weeks split. The last 2.5 miles my legs were pretty much spent. My time today was 1:46:36. I guess the question I have is am I increaseing my mileage to fast? This next week I plan on doing about the same mileage. Sure was a beautiful day for a run.

Hey there Brother. Hawaii Was awesome! I didn't run one day. Good job of work through the week. Sasha has told me that you should go atleast three weeks before you start increasing your mileage. That is if your body is handling the mileage you are now doing.

But good job last week, you kicked my butt. I hope to start running today or at the latest tomorrow. I am still dealing with the jet lag.

Today I tried to push it again. Felt good on the first half. Checked my H.R. at the turnaround, it was 122 which is about 70% of my max. H.R. which is about 173. I felt like I was breathing pretty hard. But according to my numbers I could of pushed a little more. My time was 46:26. didn't make my goal of brakeing the 45 min. mark. Maybe next week.

This is odd. Your HR range is just like mine - resting 48, max 174. 122 for me is conversational pace. I see no reason for you to feel any different at the same HR. Double-check your HR monitor if it is working correctly.

I don't have a H.R. monitor, I Just took the number 220 minus my age of 47, and I get for a max. HR of 173, 80%=138. 70%=121, and 60%=103. I got the 220 number from runner's world.

According to this formula, I am 46 years old (I am really only 33). 220 - age is only a mathematical expectation. The way to measure your max - find a place where you can run flat for about 0.5 mile and then finish the last quarter uphill. Run that stretch as hard as you can, and measure your HR as soon as you finish.

Today I felt pretty wack. My resting H.R. when I woke up this morining was at 52, up from it's normal of 48. My time today was 51:12. I was tired all the way today. I did some weights on upper body for 30 min. Hopefully I will feel more energy tommorow. Hopefully sleep better tonight.

Isn't it funny how your body can change on a day to day basis, your speed is coming back too. Just keep up the work and your will get stronger. You have had a good week of work great job. If you keep going I will have to start calling you the fast running turtle.

Yahooooo, what a great day this has been. I went to the oncologist today, and she said my C.T. scan from last week looked perfect, no new lymfoma, and I don't have to see her again for 6 months. I also had a great 5 miler today. I finally went under the 45 min. mark. I did it in 44:17. At mile 2 I was right on 18 min. mark And felt like today was the day to reach my goal.I just want to improve from here.The last half mile I was a little winded but not bad. I also did 25 min weight training on my lower body. The last few weeks I have felt like I have soooo much more energy. I hope I have finally gotten past the effect's of the radiation treatments. What an awesome day.

That is good news brother. I know its been a long year for you. I am amazed at how you have continued to run inspite of the difficult time, the sky's the limit from here on out.

It amazes me that on the days I don't feel like running I seem to do a new P.R. Pretty crazy. My legs felt really good and strong today, especialy going up hills. At my 2.5 mile mark my time was 23:20, and mile five was 48:41, whcih helps me stay on my goal for this week of keeping my 5 miler's under 50 min. or better. My over all time for the 10 miles was 1:39:41. My wife road her bike with me, it was a little cold. first time this winter I wore tight's. I don't like them very much. I look like 170 lbs of jiggely jello running down the road.

Felt alot better today, not as tired as yesterday. I had a better night's sleep and I think that helps recharge the body. My time today was 48:38, it would have been better, but I had to stop and make nice with a dog that did'nt want to make nice. He just wanted to chase me, so I stopped and faced him until he decided I was'nt a threat to him. It took about a min. and twenty seconds to convince him. Felt okay today. My times seem to be staying under the 50 min. mark for 5 miles. My next goal is to get it closer to 40 min. for 5 miles. It was a nice day for a run perfect weather conditions. I think this week has been a recovery week. My times have been alot slower. Today I just tried to do an easy tempo run. I did get a good 8 hrs. of sleep last night, so I felt pretty good the first five miles. My split time at 5 was 50:28. Total time was 1:47:47. Alot slower than the last two weeks. Hopefully this next week I will begin to feel better.

I have the internet at home now so I was looking at your weekly mileage and was impressed with your times for the week. You are making great strides and you are building a good base I am very proud of you brother. What an awesome run today, not that my time was very good, but I seen three big bull Elk in the Spanish Fork river bottoms. It was very cool. Today it took me almost as long to do the 5 miler as it did the 6 miler yesterday. My time today was 50:27. I did feel very wack today, maybe tommorrow I will do better.

Today I thought I would just go out and do an easy run, and not push to hard, but once I got going I felt pretty good. My first 3 mile split was 26:08, I thought not to bad. I still felt like I had some more energy to give so The final 3 I tried to pick it up a little more and ended with a 24:51, total for the 6 miler was 50:49 almost a 3 min. improvement from Tues. 6 miler.

I did not feel as good today, the right outside bottom of my foot is a little sore. It hurts pretty good when I get up each morining, but after I have walked on it for few min. it seems to lossen up. I took yesterday off and let my right foot heal up a little. It was still a little bit sore today, so I took it real easy. I am haveing a hard time staying motivated. I have been blessed with a new toy for my running addiction. My wife and Mom gave me a Garmin 205 for Christmas, and today I used it on my run. I think it will be a great tool to help me get better and faster. I am still trying to figure out all the bells and whiseles. I felt pretty good today after taking a few days of to let my foot get better still haveing some problems on the bottom of my right foot, I think it is time for some new shoes. Today I used my new toy again. I sure am enjoying the info it gives back. Curtis - immediate pace on the GPS is rather flaky. I often find it reporting speeds as high as 30 seconds per mile faster than the actual pace for the max. I do a pretty good job of holding a steady pace when running hard, so when I see something like 30 seconds per mile faster than the fastest I know I went, I can tell it is wrong.

The morining there was a new inch of snow on the roads, so I did 20 min. of my nordic track, and planned to do 6 miles in the afternoon when the roads were not so snowy. I felt ok on the run, really did'nt feel much like pushing it, so I kept it at a 10 min. pace. My time today was a slow 1:53:00, My right foot is still a little tender, can't wait for the new shoes to get here. I did see 3 deer, and 3 bull elk which was way cool. There was a pretty good head wind through most of my run. Calories burned today 1169 on my 6 mile run, and 250 on my nordic track workout. I have been on vaction for about a week, before my vacation my weight was at 175, this morning I was at 172. I would like to get down to 160, don't know if I have the determination to do that.
